Amazing View - Haystack Rock and the Needles

Bedrooms 2
Half Baths1
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

This treasure is unmatched for a traditional retreat to the beach. A mile south of downtown Cannon Beach and less than a city block’s walk to the sand, you can enjoy easy access to whatever your heart desires.

The Horner Beach House was built in 1928 to take advantage of the best view of Haystack Rock and the Needles. One of the original homes on the hill, the view includes an expansive panorama of the ocean as well as easy access to the beach. The house has just undergone an extensive remodel, preserving the beach cottage ambiance while ensuring that modern amenities make your experience comfortable.

There are several nesting pairs of bald eagles living in the hills behind the beach house. They fly directly overhead on their way to hunt on Haystack Rock. A fantastic spectacle! Haystack Rock is the best place on the coast to see Tufted Puffins from April to August. The Rock also hosts breeding Western Gull, Pelagic Cormorant, Pigeon Guillemot and Black Oystercatcher, Halequin Duck, Brown Pelican, and Peregrine Falcon seen in summer and Greater Scaup and Surf Scoter in Winter.

About Peggy Amato

When we were kids we used to go to Cannon Beach because our neighbors had a house there. Relatives from North Dakota were treated with trips to the beach whenever they visited. After the death of our father, our mom bought this house in 1974 looking forward to spending her retirement at the beach she so loved. It was a favorite spot for family and friends alike.

Mom wanted to share this beautiful spot with friends and began renting. We are happy to continue making the house available for others to enjoy.

Peggy Amato purchased this cottage in 1974

Lovely home in awesome location!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 had the pleasure of staying at Villa Horner for 4 nights in mid-July. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay! The cottage was in perfect condition and fully stocked with supplies, condiments, etc. -- they even had kites in the garage which our kids really enjoyed! The upstairs bedroom was perfect for our 12-year-old triplets, with enough room for them to have their own space. My husband and I really enjoyed sipping wine on the deck and watching the sunset behind Haystack Rock and the Needles, but our favorite part of the trip was building bonfires on the beach and roasting marshmallows! From the house, it was an easy walk to see the tide pools around the rocks at low tide. It was also close to the restaurants and shops at the south end of town, and only about 15 minute walk into the more bustling northern portion of Cannon Beach. I would just caution you to be careful walking back after dark because there's about a 5 minute stretch with no sidewalks. All in all, it was perfect for our family and I hope that we have a chance to go back and stay here again.

The house is a lovely, modern house that slept our party of 7 very comfortably.

The view of Haystack Rock is amazing. The beach is only a few steps from the house. The house is equipped with every modern appliance you could desire. We flew kites, hiked and napped in perfect comfort. We will definitely rent there again.

It was beautiful. Steps from the beach, view of haystack rock, and privacy of a home.

Beautiful updates without losing the cottage by the sea charm. Wonderful neighbor, beautiful view and just enough space around the house to enjoy the flowers and for the kids to hide in the tree and play on the deck. Great space for kids upstairs. Every amenity you could need included in the kitchen, great games and movies. I cannot think of one thing I would change. The history of the house is also fun to learn about. Definitely plan to come back and appreciate the kindness of Peggy. She was great to work with. Thanks to the family for opening up this charming, clean, beautiful getaway to us.

Wonderful Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The Carol Horner Beach House is a wonderful place to stay. It is comfortable and homey, and recently remodeled with beautiful updates. It has a view of the ocean and Haystack Rock and has easy access to the beach. Some shopping and a good coffee shop is a ten minute walk away. The bustling center of town is a mile away. I would definitely stay here again!

We loved staying at this cozy cottage. The views & location of this house we're even more impressive upon arrival. The house is really just steps from the beach! The heating instructions were very confusing but everything else about the house was great. I wouldn't recommend an elderly person stay in the upstairs bedroom due to the narrow steps & low ceiling leading up to it but there is a main level bedroom. I'm so glad there are owners out there that open up these amazing homes to travelers. I never thought I'd get to treat my parents staying in a million dollar beach house with spectacular views!

Cannon Beach June 2017

This property is above expectations in every way. The home is 1000x better (and nicer) than any hotel. The beds are comfy, the towels are soft, and the kitchen has every amenity you will need. The home has a very interesting history and the owners did an amazing job documenting the extensive renovation. We loved the fireplace and playing games at the 100 year old dining room table. And that brings us to the location which overlooks Haystock rock (which you can see starfish, anemones, hundreds of birds including bald eagles and falcons), is a 3 minute walk to the beach and close to shopping, restaurants, pubs and Ecola State Park. Just really an incredible place and the hosts are fantastic- we will DEFINITELY be back.
