Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

This treasure is unmatched for a traditional retreat to the beach. A mile south of downtown Cannon Beach and less than a city block’s walk to the sand, you can enjoy easy access to whatever your heart desires.

The Horner Beach House was built in 1928 to take advantage of the best view of Haystack Rock and the Needles. One of the original homes on the hill, the view includes an expansive panorama of the ocean as well as easy access to the beach. The house has just undergone an extensive remodel, preserving the beach cottage ambiance while ensuring that modern amenities make your experience comfortable.

There are several nesting pairs of bald eagles living in the hills behind the beach house. They fly directly overhead on their way to hunt on Haystack Rock. A fantastic spectacle! Haystack Rock is the best place on the coast to see Tufted Puffins from April to August. The Rock also hosts breeding Western Gull, Pelagic Cormorant, Pigeon Guillemot and Black Oystercatcher, Halequin Duck, Brown Pelican, and Peregrine Falcon seen in summer and Greater Scaup and Surf Scoter in Winter.

About Peggy Amato

When we were kids we used to go to Cannon Beach because our neighbors had a house there. Relatives from North Dakota were treated with trips to the beach whenever they visited. After the death of our father, our mom bought this house in 1974 looking forward to spending her retirement at the beach she so loved. It was a favorite spot for family and friends alike.

Mom wanted to share this beautiful spot with friends and began renting. We are happy to continue making the house available for others to enjoy.

Peggy Amato purchased this cottage in 1974

DELIGHTFUL!

  • 5 of 5

Delightful in every way! From the carefully manicured yard, to the well appointed kitchen, and everything in between, our stay at Villa Horner was a delight. What a wonderful and well cared for little cottage. The location is just a stone's throw from the iconic Haystack Rock, and the view from the cottage is breath taking - AM or PM. Peggy and her family have painstakingly restored and maintained their childhood family cottage and it is the perfect place to stay for some rest and relaxation. We lacked for nothing during our visit. Surrounded by lovingly preserved and framed family artwork and artifacts, before our stay was completed, we felt as though we were part of the family. Thank you for allowing us to become part of the history of Villa Horner. We can't wait to return.

Beyond expectations!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived very late, it was dark when we awoke it was a breathtaking view! But more importantly to us was how comfort and wonderfuly appontied the home was and it so added to our experience.

Additionally, on the day of departure it was the day of the ecsilpe, we asked for a very extended departure date and it was graciously accomodaed.

A 10+ experience.

We have been visiting this property for several years now. The owners are easy to work with, respond quickly to date requests and return deposits quickly. The house itself is perfect! A great view, it is well stocked and very clean. We recommend this property to all our friends.

Lovely home in awesome location!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 had the pleasure of staying at Villa Horner for 4 nights in mid-July. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay! The cottage was in perfect condition and fully stocked with supplies, condiments, etc. -- they even had kites in the garage which our kids really enjoyed! The upstairs bedroom was perfect for our 12-year-old triplets, with enough room for them to have their own space. My husband and I really enjoyed sipping wine on the deck and watching the sunset behind Haystack Rock and the Needles, but our favorite part of the trip was building bonfires on the beach and roasting marshmallows! From the house, it was an easy walk to see the tide pools around the rocks at low tide. It was also close to the restaurants and shops at the south end of town, and only about 15 minute walk into the more bustling northern portion of Cannon Beach. I would just caution you to be careful walking back after dark because there's about a 5 minute stretch with no sidewalks. All in all, it was perfect for our family and I hope that we have a chance to go back and stay here again.
