Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

This treasure is unmatched for a traditional retreat to the beach. A mile south of downtown Cannon Beach and less than a city block’s walk to the sand, you can enjoy easy access to whatever your heart desires.

The Horner Beach House was built in 1928 to take advantage of the best view of Haystack Rock and the Needles. One of the original homes on the hill, the view includes an expansive panorama of the ocean as well as easy access to the beach. The house has just undergone an extensive remodel, preserving the beach cottage ambiance while ensuring that modern amenities make your experience comfortable.

There are several nesting pairs of bald eagles living in the hills behind the beach house. They fly directly overhead on their way to hunt on Haystack Rock. A fantastic spectacle! Haystack Rock is the best place on the coast to see Tufted Puffins from April to August. The Rock also hosts breeding Western Gull, Pelagic Cormorant, Pigeon Guillemot and Black Oystercatcher, Halequin Duck, Brown Pelican, and Peregrine Falcon seen in summer and Greater Scaup and Surf Scoter in Winter.

50 is nifty

  • 5 of 5

First time stay here for an annual birthday beach trip to Cannon. This was such a fantastic place to stay. The story of this family home and it sympathetic remodel make it a great stay. Especially if you are coming during winter storms to watch the waves pound Haystack and the Needles...but fear not...O coast usually throws in some nice beach walk weather as well.

Perfect for families and close enough to walk into town. We'll stay here again

Perfect location! Amazing views. Loved the "extras" like the guest book and game/puzzle closet. Owners were very easy to work with. HIGHLY recommend.

Wonderful house in Cannon Beach

  • 5 of 5

This house is exactly as advertised. We've stayed in a lot of rentals over the last 16 years and this house is one of the cleanest and best equipped. The kitchen has everything you could want for cooking and it is VERY well organized. The house itself is very clean and in a great location - an easy walk to midtown and even into the main part of Cannon Beach. We would stay here again.

Excellent Cannon Beach Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is exactly as it is described in the listing, including amazing views, as well as a incredibly short walk to the beach. We enjoyed the fireplace on cool evenings and our morning coffee from the panoramic windows that looked out to Haystack Rock. Peggy is a wonderful host, and her family cottage provides all that you need for a memorable Cannon Beach vacation.

A Terrific Stay in Cannon Beach

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay. The house was ideally situated to get into town or to walk on the beach. It was very well appointed with pots, pans, and other kitchen needs. Everything that one could need if dining in. The gas fireplace was wonderful after a December walk on the beach! It was very clear that the restoration work that had been done on the place was lovingly and expertly done. The woodwork is just beautiful. And to top it all off, Peggy was very helpful with providing information and answering our questions.

Highly recommend the place!

About Peggy Amato

When we were kids we used to go to Cannon Beach because our neighbors had a house there. Relatives from North Dakota were treated with trips to the beach whenever they visited. After the death of our father, our mom bought this house in 1974 looking forward to spending her retirement at the beach she so loved. It was a favorite spot for family and friends alike.

Mom wanted to share this beautiful spot with friends and began renting. We are happy to continue making the house available for others to enjoy.

Peggy Amato purchased this cottage in 1974
