About Bob Low

Bob 'retired' from the big aerospace company in Seattle in Jan 2006. Sue is a 'retired' school administrator who also hasn't figured out that retirement doesn't mean continuing to work as a consultant. We live full time in a historic brick 1923 English Tutor Cottage in Portland, Oregon but enjoy our escapes to our comfortable contemporary beach house, Capehaven.

Capehaven was designed to take advantage of our many visits to the beach, watching the seasonal weather patterns and the available views of the beach and the nearby hills to the east. When you stay at Capehaven, you will find that we both have a creative side and take pride in creating a warm and inviting and tasteful environment in our homes. Sue simply can't help herself from keeping the beach house fresh and tastefully decorated. And Bob can’t help himself from making additional improvements like building the gazebo over the hot tub and designing the firepit area in the backyard. As Capehaven guests, you will get to enjoy the results of our passions.

Bob Low purchased this house in 1990

Why Bob Low chose Northern Coast

We always loved coming down to Cannon Beach, however the crowds there have gotten to be a bit much in the summer. We discovered Arch Cape over 20 years ago and it is still the undiscovered gem of the Oregon Coast. It has a unspoiled natural beauty that is hard to match. It is so nice to be able to run into Cannon Beach take in the art and shops and then come back to the serenity and raw beauty that the Arch Cape community and beaches offer.

What makes this house unique

Capehaven was designed to take advantage of all the available beach views! There is the breakfast deck on the east side of the house where you can enjoy your morning coffee with the sun coming up over the beautiful hills to the east. The covered ocean view north deck on the west side of house allows you to BBQ and dine outside rain or shine with a wind protection from the south, or there's ocean view sun deck on the southwest side that has wind protection from the prevailing summer breeze. During the cooler months, you will enjoy the radiant heated floors which are throughout the house, and the cozy gas fireplace in the living room. The beach is literally a stones throw away and there is an easy path to beach. There is a large covered lower deck in the back with outside warm & cold water so that you can hose the kids down after an afternoon on the beach. For those who are looking for a romantic getaway, the lighting was designed to allow you to set the perfect mood, and then there's the built in sound system throughout the upstairs to complete the setting.

New in 2011- Hot Tub with pergola, connecting decks to the existing large covered back deck, makes hot tubing fun rain or shine. A new fire pit is just 3 steps down from the hot tub deck making the back yard new oasis for just hanging out!

Guestbook comments from the owner

OUR STAY WAS PERFECT!!!

We absolutely loved your home. And it was very clean. We were actuaully suprized that you're willing to share such a beautiful home with strangers.

We are planning another reunion next year and want to stay at your house again. I'm curious though. I have a degree in architectural studies, specializing in interior design and I can really critique any building I've been in (including my own home). But your home is flawless. I just have to say that the house is one of the best-planned, built, and furnished homes I've ever been in. You've done an excellent job and should be very proud.

Thank you for letting us stay in your home. We hope to stay again next year.

Thanks again,

Vera

Second visit was great, too

  • 5 of 5

Our visit was the second time we'd stayed at Capehaven. It was so enjoyable the first time, we knew we'd have a great time again! Plenty of space for 8 women who love to cook, chat and hang out together. The artwork is especially enjoyable. Had a chance to walk on the beach, walk through the neighborhood and to Jack's Thrift Shop -- what an interesting place! Disappointed the hot tub didn't work, but Bob made it right. Will definitely consider a 3rd visit.

Spectacular Home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time!

This house is spectacular! Plenty of room for myself, my daughter and her husband and my two grandsons. And so comfortable. The beds - the mattresses - we all slept as if in a cloud. The kitchen - games and toys - decks - back yard and hot tub. We enjoyed everything.

The views - oh my, the views! And the beach - a short walk. Ecola State Park - magnificent. The town of Cannon Beach - great restaurants and shops.

Thank you for a lovely week.

Great place to stay at Capehaven!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at Capehaven. Although it's a short walk to get on the beach, we could see it easily from the house; the view was great! The house was wonderful for the 8 of us mom and daughters!

Great Family Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Capehaven!! Every corner of this gorgeous home has intention and excellent style. There is lots of space for even another family to join along; as a family of five, we had plenty of space to spare. I would highly recommend staying here, and look forward to the chance to return!

Large yet cozy beach house. Great kitchen for cooking, private decks, relaxed quiet street

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the house and were quite comfortable with a group of 8. Enjoyed the kitchen and dining room for cooking family meals. Arch Cape is a quiet and little out of town which is nice. During high tides sometimes the beach is not walkable, but the view is lovely.

We were there on cold winter weekend and it did take several hours for the house to heat to a comfortable temperature. Also we requested a later checkout than 11:00am, but got no response from the owner. We would've preferred a 12:00pm checkout or a little flexibility to complete all the checkout tasks listed.

Overall the house is lovely and nice for family weekends and cooking. We enjoyed the hot tub and appreciated the effort made to keep it clean and comfortable. There were robes provided, which were an nice amenity.

We would recommend the house.

Capehaven No Ka Oi

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I bought our two adult children, their spouses and our granddaughter to Capehaven for a family vacation. We cannot say enough about this serene, poetic, simply marvelous oasis of a home. We prepared our own meals in the gorgeous, fully loaded kitchen, grilled steaks and shrimp on the grill and so enjoyed sharing our meals on the dining room table together. We played old-fashioned games like Uno and dominoes and totally enjoyed reconnecting with each other. Capehaven had EVERYTHING we needed...soo very thoughtfully planned and artistically displayed. Although it was chilly and wet (by our warm Hawaiian standards!), we soo enjoyed exploring the Coast, and were excited to see wild rabbits and elk. We even got some shopping in the local shops and at the Outlet Stores. It was a most comfortable, amazing stay at Capehaven that our 'ohana will remember forever with such fond, happy memories. Mahalo nui loa for all the love and care that went into this beautiful home and for sharing it with our 'ohana.

Owner's Response: Thank you Audrey for the review, yes Sue and I do our best to provide a great place for our guests. We want our guests to be pleasantly surprised when they arrive and find that Capehaven is not your usual beach house rental. We provide with all and maybe more that you will find in a families primary residence. We take pride in having a fully equipped kitchen with an assortment of spices and other staples not normally found in a rental. We work at making Capehaven a cut above the average beach house rental. Thank you again. Bob & Sue

Arch Cape beach is very private with mostly local residents and very few tourists. Capehaven has a private fire pit at the end of the beach path with chairs and wood for the firewood available. You can see and/or experience nearby surfing at the popular Short Sands Beach. The scenic Hug Point is only 1/2 mile away and when the tide is out you walk directly to the fabulous beach. The arts town of Cannon Beach is 5 minutes away!
