The Blue Moon Is A 3 Bedroom 1 Bath Home. Sleeps 2-6. 1250 Square Feet.
Tastefully furnished and decorated home 3 Bedrooms, 1 bath cottage on beachfront lot, directly in back of a beachfront house which is also on vacation rental. Guests of the Blue Moon use 24 hour public access to the beach, 3 houses away (no access to beach through beachfront house). 1 minute walk to beach access. Sleeps 6 (including adults, children and infants).
From our beach are distant views of Honolulu/ Waikiki/Diamond Head. In the evening via the public beach access, you can view both the lights of the city and the stars in the sky with equal brightness. Located in the village of Ewa Beach, this 3 BR, 1 BA house is called The Blue Moon. Two bedrooms have a Queen beach in each and the third bedroom has 2 Twin beds. This charming house has vintage Hawaiian architecture of the early 1940s with high ceilings. The surrounding area has the feel of Old Hawaii and appears to have stood still in time. We are in an older family neighborhood, and we are respectful of our neighbors. Tall coconut trees sway in the breeze, as you stroll along the beach. Local fisherman cast off the shoreline and spear fish in the reef. A rare and endangered monk seal named Irma has been frequenting our beach! She is sleek and beautiful and has been delighting our guests (must keep distance by law). Turtles can sometimes be seen. Whales have been sighted in the distance in front of our house in the winter months.
If you have a larger group, the Ewa Moon and Hula Moon Vacation rentals VRBO #3830 can also be rented in addition. Together the 3 units can accommodate up to 18 max total (including adults, children and infants). Thus the entire property can be rented by one group for a total of 9 bedrooms and 5 baths.

Just 5 minutes away is Starbucks Coffee; 2 minutes away is a new Safeway; Foodland grocery is 3 minutes away. Closer grocery shopping at Longs Drugs is less than a minute away. In our town, we have several small restaurants with ethnic variety, as well as the usual Fast Food places. 15 minutes away is the popular Waikele Outlet Shopping Center, frequented by tourists from all over the world.
The best beginning surfing on Oahu is found here in Ewa Beach. You are three to five minutes from six golf courses, including the Hawaii Prince Golf Course! State of the art Water Park with flo rider is 7 miles away. The Kapolei 12 Plex Theatre is 6 miles away. This getaway is ideal if you want to avoid mega resorts and tourist ridden areas.

In 1993 we purchased our dream property, two houses on a sandy beach lot in Ewa (say 'Evah'). For the last 17 years we have been doing vacation rental on the beachfront home, but on Thanksgiving 2012, and Black Friday, we made the decision to furnish this home for a vacation rental.

No Joy at Blue Moon
Unfortunately, our stay was infested with ants during our vacation. Despite the house appearing to be clean, we had swarms of ants streaming across the counter-tops, electric range, and floor boards. Probably the worse was while sitting on the couch, we felt ants crawling on us, and now had to spray all the furniture down. This must have been a known issue because there were cans of insect ant spray in the closets. We also began to worry that the ants would get into our luggage and gifts. So not necessarily the paradise that we had hoped for.
Lastly, there were some other things that took some getting used to, for example; no AC so it got very warm during the day. To keep the house bearable, we had keep the windows open in order to get a cross breeze to cool off. Always having to keep the windows open on this ground level property right next to the main street at night while we slept always made us feel like there was a security risk. The other thing that took a little getting used to was that the washer and dryer were outside on the side of the house. They were rusted, and not very appealing; so we passed on using that advertised amenity. The same goes for the outside BBQ grill, it was like a camping charcoal type stove, rusted and didn't appear to have been cleaned in awhile.
The Blue Moon house is charming, and a bit dated, so if this is something you enjoy; then this is the property for you. It just wasn't for us.
Blue Moon Stay: November 2, 2017 to November 12, 2017
We in Hawaii have a saying called Kupono: to be forthright, honest and fair in your relationship with others. This guest did not treat us with respect or kupono.
He did not make us aware of the ant issue until AFTER he returned back home, then demanded nearly $600 in return. I offered him what I considered more than fair compensation in a gesture of good will, saying that he should have told us of the problem so we could immediately rectify the problem which would have been an easy fix. He scoffed at my offer. I don't want to accuse him, but maybe some people feel they can defray the cost of a vacation by asking for a refund after they leave. He had initially contacted our housekeeper about an extra fan upon arrival, but chose not to contact her about ants. In truth, there were no ants prior to his arrival and no ants after his departure. He must have left food out and not cleaned after himself to cause the problem. I do not have control over the lack of cleanliness from guests. I can make sure I present them with a clean place, and he did acknowledge the place was clean upon arrival and he acknowledged in his review that our place had charm. As far as leaving windows open, that is part of living in Paradise and everyone who lives in Hawaii has to keep windows open to allow the cross breeze through. This is not a "security issue" in Hawaii. We do not advertise having AC, so I wonder why the point was made. We have ceiling fans in all bedrooms, over the living room and the dining room. We advertise our place as being vintage Hawaiiana in architecture and decor which is the charm of our place, and most people can and do appreciate what we offer them. This guest should have done more homework, rather than complain after the fact of the obvious special vintage nostalgia of our place, emulating Hawaii of the 40's and 50's, in the heydey of tourists coming to Hawaii on the Matson liners. We looked far and wide to provide authentic items of decor. We hope you enjoy Hawaiiana nostalgia as we do!
Great spacious house close to the beach
This house is quite spacious, especially with three teenagers. The beach is nearby and was almost all to ourselves. We stayed for seven days and had all the amenities we needed quite close by. Located in a small deadend, there was never any traffic noise. So nigths were cool and relaxing. It was our first trip to Hawaii and we certainly will go back for a longer vacation next time.
My daughter, sister, and I stayed in this cottage for seven days. It was very nice and was just what we needed. It was very hot in the evenings, but the nights and mornings were cool. This may be customary for July.
We were not there during the day, as we very visiting my grandson and his family. We celebrated my great grand daughter's first month"s birthday together.
My grandson also took us sight seeing. I believe we saw most of the beautiful places on Oahu. My sister and I spent the day at the Polynesian Cultural Center. We had a wonderful time, and hope to return someday, and if we do, I hope we get the Blue Moon Cottage again.
Clean and comfortable, close to grocery store, etc. and six adults coped with one bathroom. It suited our purpose as a base for exploring Oahu and the price was right. For travellers looking to stay put, the beach within walking distance is very narrow (5 feet maybe) with other properties overlooking it. We were not comfortable using it for a "beach day." We discovered a number of beaches within driving distance. The very small patio at the cottage is fine for morning coffee but not much else. The outdoor grill is one that is used for camping, not full size, and there are no bikes. Being from rural Canada, we were a bit surprised at how close it was to the neighbours ' and how we could hear and watch their TV. We encourage travellers to view the rental on Google Street view to have a better understanding of the older neighbourhood. The sister rental property would be a preferred spot.

5 of us come from Beijing, China to spend our Spring Festival vacation in Hawaii, we are lucky to found Dolly's vintage. we had so wonderful staying here, close to post office, Safeway......everything! Dolly is patient and helpful! Since this is my first experience renting a vacation rental. we don't want to leave....thank you and welcome to Beijing, welcome to China.
Great Christmas and New years get away
Loved having a house to cook and visit with our kids over the Christmas/ New Year holiday. Our son is stationed in Okinawa and Hawaii was half way to vacation for all of us. He loved the fact we could cook and eat home cooked meals. Very relaxing. Great weather in this area during December in the Ewa Beach area. Other areas may be raining but we had sun shine. Dolly and David very responsive to questions.
Water Park and cinema theatres at Kapolei, 6 Golf Courses within 4 miles, outlet Shopping nearby at Waikele and Kapolei, Swimming & Diving, 5 man made lagoons for easy swimming at the Ihi' Lani Resort and the Disney Resort, Au'lani 12 minutes away, Pearl Harbor Arizona memorial 25 minutes away, White Plains beach with the best novice long boarding on Oahu and free parking, 10 minutes away. Luaus at Germaine's and Paradise Cove 10 minutes away. Polynesian Cultural Center and luau 40 minutes away. Waikiki Beach 40 minutes away.
