About Barb Boggs

Hello, My name is Tom Boggs! My wife, Barb & I live in Newport, MI, a small farming community just north of Monroe. We have been married 31 years and have 11 children. (5 sons & 6 daughters)

Our children range from 30 to 4 years old. We have a large span of ages to provide entertainment for when we go on vacation.

Barb Boggs purchased this house in 2011

Why Barb Boggs chose Northwest

Each summer since Barb and I were married, we have vacationed in various places throughout Michigan. At each destination we dreamed of someday having our own 'cabin on a lake'. Finally in 2011 we were able to make our dream a reality. Needing the space with 11 children, our 'cabin' is more like a 'home'.

When we became serious about looking for a location, we found Cadillac to be the perfect fit for families to vacation. It has activities for all four seasons and is located conveniently from locations such as Traverse City, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Mackinaw City, and much more!

We chose Stoneledge lake because it offers peace and quiet that only a private lake can bring but the ability to enjoy all sports on the lake. As you can see in our pictures, the view is breathtaking.

We are happy to be able to share a part of our dream and ourselves with our guests.

What makes this house unique

The view from the living room overlooking the lake was the first thing that really made us say 'This is it!' Trying to locate a home large enough that has a big grass yard, sandy beach, all sports lake, and convenience to other attractions is hard to find.

Barb wanted to make sure that we updated the decor since the house was recently renovated. Barb decided to put all new log furniture for a rustic feel along with La-Z-Boy furniture to give it that comfortable 'At Home' feeling.

We also wanted to make sure there were activities right at the lodge. There is swimming, beach volleyball, paddle boat, kayaking, fishing, and sunbathing on the deck or beach. We also have indoor fun such as air hockey, foose ball, pool table, cable tv on a 51' plasma tv, and wifi.

If you want to venture out, take a bike ride down the Meijer Pine Trail. Golf courses abound within minutes from our front door. Maybe skiing is something your family enjoys. Caberfae is minutes away.

The location of the home is minutes from thousands of acres of state land for hunting or hiking. The Meijer Pine Trail offers miles of groomed trails for biking, snowmobiling, or walking. All the entertainment of downtown Cadillac is just a few minutes away.

Gorgeous House with equally great views!

  • 5 of 5

We went to this rental house in October. It was extremely clean and well maintained when we arrived which let us make ourselves feel right at home.

We utilized it for a small rehearsal dinner the night before our wedding. The kitchen and dining area are very large and open making it a perfect setting. There are lots of large windows making a beautiful view over the lake. We also had our hair and makeup done on the morning of the wedding which was so easy with all the natural lighting.

Communication and directions from the owner was extremely easy and friendly. The neighbor next door was also extremely accommodating.

We loved our stay and would love to come back in the summer to enjoy the balcony, volleyball and lake! We would highly recommend to others!

Beautiful lake and house

  • 5 of 5

Our family gathered together to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday and it could not have turned out better. Boggs' Lodge is spacious and well-appointed, and the views are spectacular. We kayaked, enjoyed a great campfire, played pool and lots of cards and board games. The decks are wonderful for lazy breakfasts and relaxation. No one wanted to leave. Mr. Bill next door was pleasant, helpful, and just a pleasure to meet.

Our family began talking about returning before we left!

Many thanks for sharing this special place.

A memorable week!

  • 5 of 5

Myself and my kids' families (grandkids ages 4 to 20) had a wonderful week at Boggs' Lodge! We were fortunate to have a sunny, hot and sometimes humid week, so the a/c was a blessing. The house is beautiful and perfectly maintained. We loved the open kitchen and the big farmhouse dining table where we could all sit down together. Mrs. Boggs and Bill the next-door manager were johnny-on-the-spot with every question. We had no maintenance issues at all, except for the lower level being a little cooler than the main level with the a/c -an issue with many homes with a walkout lower level. It actually made for good sleeping down there.

The lake is peaceful, shallow, clean and sandy for the little ones. They also had a great time chasing frogs, hunting for clams and building sand castles. The big boys had surprisingly productive fishing. We rented the pontoon and other boats- beautiful pontoon- and followed the bald eagles around the lake and watched the loons play hide-n-seek with us. We ran, biked and walked around the lake. Good internet- the dads

"worked from home." I fell in love with the farmhouse across the street and loved seeing rolling farm fields from the boat. A beautiful week. Highly recommend for your family, especially if you have little ones.

Clean, well maintained property for a large family

  • 5 of 5

We had a get together for our family members all coming from out of state with children. We were super happy with the space that this property offered and the accommodations, such as the well stocked kitchen, two large living areas, gaming areas and nice furniture (*beautiful wood furniture by the way*). There was a large table in the kitchen with bench seating for large families and despite much of our trip was rainy, we were still able to enjoy the lake and the beach. The lake is small but was adequate for our family who barefoot skis, wakeboards, skis, sky skis etc. The one thing that was a surprise the night after we arrived was that this lake is partial to fishing. As a family who barefoots, we intend to use the water when it is 'glass' and that is usually early morning or just before the sun sets, we were surprised to find out that this particular lake had restrictions on boating for people who want to fish. We had specifically looked for a place that did not set these type of restrictions for that reason, but luckily the weather was mild enough and we were able to get great water during the boating hours allowed. The next door neighbor who manages the property was a very sweet man who was extremely helpful and kind. Barb was nothing but helpful in anticipation of the vacation and even leading up to committing to booking the vacation. The beach area was fantastic, nicely groomed and super fun for the kids. It was also a great lake to use the paddle boards and kayaks on. Meijer was not far away for grocery needs. Aside from the small surprise mentioned above this is a great property to rent and is highly recommended by our family.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words and compliments on our lake house. Our manager enjoyed your family immensely. We appreciate our guests who enjoy our place and take care of it as if it were their own. Thank you for that. Our small, private lake does have its restrictions. We feel the peace and quiet (from low boat traffic) more than makes up for the give and take we make towards accommodating all types of lake users. We do hope you will keep us in mind and return in the future. If not for a summer stay, then maybe a winter ski weekend!

Truly a 'Four Season' destination, Cadillac offers a wide variety of spring, summer, fall, snd winter recreation. There is plenty of restaurants, appealing attractions, unique shops, nightlife, and outdoor activities....all within a small town atmoshpere. There is no way that a family can take in all of the attractions in just one week. You will definitely need to come back!

We offer over 200 miles of groomed snowmobile trails, Caberfae Peaks Ski Resort with 34 downhill ski runs and over 485 feet of vertical drop, over 58 miles of cross country ski and snow shoe trails (15 groomed miles), 90,000+ acres of state and national forest, three major rivers, and a private all sports lake literally right in our back yard.

Stoneledge lake is 82 acres large. It is an all sports lake but offers a no pressure fishing atmosphere because it is private. Our beach area is sandy and has water depth of approx 5ft out to 150 ft. The deepest part of the lake is 20 ft. Most of the lake is 5 to 10 ft. There are also two large public lakes nearby.

If you are a golfing enthusiast or want to learn the sport, there are multiple 'Top Notch' golf courses and learning facilities just 10 minutes from our front door.

The well known Fred Meijer White Pine Trail, 2 miles from our home, is a 92 mile linear state park that winds its way from Grand Rapids to Cadillac, offering natural scenery and several stops at cities along the way. The trail can be used for biking, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, walking, and hiking. The trail is maintained by local governments and Michigan's Department of Natural Resources.

After the day in the great outdoors, Cadillac offers unique shopping boutiques, three bowling centers, a roller skating rink, a championship ice rink, two full service health & fitness facilities, a 3D movie complex, and of course mouthwatering cuisine at the many locally owned restaurants around the area.

Add these attractions to a full line-up of various festivals and you can spend a fun-filled, or relaxing vacation. Either way, bring yourself, your family, or group to Cadillac, you’ll keep coming back for more.
