12 BR/9 Bath, Sleeps 28/Ocean Front/Perfect for Family Reunions-Private POOL
okay, not the best
Great space, beautiful outdoors! The house is dated and was full of bugs upon arrival.
Hello Taylor, thank you for leaving your review. I would like to apologize for the bugs in the home upon your arrival - We will be sure to make sure this does not happen in the future. I hope you and your family enjoyed your vacation here on Oak Island. We hope to 'SEA' you on your next vacation to Oak Island...Life is Better at the Beach.
Plenty of room for a big crowd.
It met our needs for a big group. We were disappointed to find that the elevator had been broken for several months and we were not told until we checked in.
Hello Hank, thank you for taking the time to leave your wonderful review!
The Staff at Better Beach Rentals are glad you enjoyed your stay with us here at our property West Point. I would like to apologize on behalf of BBR for not notifying you of the complications with the elevator. For the time being, our maintenance team has placed a stair lift into the property that way it is still handicap accessible until the proper repairs can be made. I am delighted to hear that the house could accommodate you and your family! To let you in on a little secret for next year, our staff is currently going through all of our properties making slight improvements to make your experience even more memorable! You’ll have to come back and check it out! We are excited to 'SEA' you on your next vacation to Oak Island….Life is Better at the Beach!
Beautiful location. Large house, but not that well maintained.
The location can't be beat. You're at the end of the island with easy access to ocean and sound. There's a lot of fishing to be done on the coast, which attracts lots of people to the public access lot across from the house. But despite that, the area is not busy.
The house itself is large with bedrooms seemingly everywhere. The online description isn't that helpful. It doesn't tell you what the distribution of beds is. We had to get that from the rental agency for planning purposes. The ad also says there's a grill and a charcoal grill. But there was no grill. Just a few charcoal grills, which forced us to make an unexpected trip to the store for charcoal to make dinner.
The house itself wasn't very well cleaned when we arrived. There were dead roaches everywhere. At least they were dead, but it seems any cleaning service with a vacuum cleaner should have taken care of that.
The carpets and rugs are quite ragged and worn. Furniture may look outdated, but did its job. There was plenty of seating in the living room and balcony, but not the dining room. We had to gather up a few extra tables and bring chairs in from outside just to get us all seated. Since the house is capable of sleeping 20+ people, you'd hope there would be enough silverware and plates to accommodate them. But we couldn't get through one meal without having to wash dishes and forks, which meant eating in shifts. There was no griddle, leaving us making pancakes on four frying pans on all the burners. One of the refrigerators had problems with leaking water. Do NOT use the bathroom jacuzzi jets - they will spurt out brown, foul-smelling, stagnant water. The WiFi worked if you were within 20 feet of the router. But that's about it for the range. The pool was nice and clean, as was the hot tub.
Overall, this is a great place to stay if you want to be somewhere beautiful and just need a place to sleep a large group. No frills but comfortable. If that's what you want, this is a great place and a great price relative to some other similarly large houses.
Great location/space/views, but needs some TLC
We had an overall wonderful stay! The location is very quiet and has gorgeous views, and the house is well-appointed with furniture, cooking utensils, etc. The pool and hot tub were really nice as well. There was plenty of parking. It definitely works well for a large family. Check-in/out was smooth and easy.
However, this house has definitely seen quite a bit of wear and could use a refresh in most areas. Also, the elevator seems to have been permanently decommissioned as it was boarded up, and the chair lift was also not working. Luckily we were able to assist some of our older family members getting up the long flight of stairs. If you have someone who can not do stairs at all, that could be a big problem.
Overall, it was a good stay. I would recommend checking with the rental company about the status of the elevator/chair lift if that is something you require.
