Pleasant Woodland Retreat for a 3-Day Family Getaway

  • 3 of 5

Our family had an overall enjoyable stay at the Pine Mountain Lake Retreat. The lovely home was a reasonable distance from Yosemite, was located in a secure gated community, offered a pleasant woodland setting, was spacious, comfortable and clean inside, and provided us the perfect mountain get-a-way. I must say that prior to our visit maintaining contact with Megan was excellent but became drastically less so once we arrived. Although we conveyed our later than expected arrival, Megan had previously implied her possibly meeting us at the gate to help curb the ($27.50 per/car) entrance fees, which did not occur. Now I take full responsibility for not initially remembering the second key lock box on the side of the house; but the evening of 8/26, I was rather disheartened that all my phone or text efforts to reach Megan went unanswered. (I even went back to the guard's station in the hopes that they had an emergency contact number.) Whats perhaps more bothering is that throughout our stay there were no follow-up attempts even just to check our status.

Again don't wish to take anything away from the home itself, it was a very pleasant place to stay and relax, but there were a few other amenity miscues. We were never able to connect through any of the networks or password provided preventing our access to the WiFi. Not that it was used often, but TV connectivity was inconsistent as often there was a message displayed on the screen saying, weak signal check antenna or cable box connections. Somewhat understandable given the area and the number of people, but hot water for bathing did become a bit of an consistent issue. To a lesser extent, your listing image showed six chairs around the dinning table, we only found five. Also using the game room pool table would have been more enjoyable had one stick not been broken and the other two had proper cue tips. Lastly there was a bit of confusion on the linens, the fridge instruction sheet said they could be just left in the laundry room, but prior you had instructed me to remove, wash, fold, and put away all sheets and towels. We did our best to comply given the 11am departure time constraints, leaving some towels in the dryer.

I honestly don't wish to minimize our stay or take away from our overall enjoyment of this lovey house and amazing surroundings. Staying here still provide our family a wonderful break from the norm and I would still offer my recommendation as a place to find comfort.

Nice layout and very easy to find. The distance from Yosemite was good and the amenities at Pine Mountain were great for families.

Great house with the great owner

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoy the house, the only problem we had was the neighbor. It happens first time for the past 25 year that somebodies called security twice in 1 night because we are too laud, but we didn't have music or any kind of party, we just eat outside and we didn't cream, just having conversation. Probably it would be a good idea, if VRBO will have a option "party house" - "no party house", because some people coming with the kids and knowing this is a quite area will help. And for our group it help too.

But the house very clean, fits a lot of people and it is 10 minutes walking distance from the Main Marina.

House has everything and is clean and lovely however...

  • 5 of 5

It cost us $53 to allow our 2 cars into their gated community.

You should also know that your beds will not have sheets and pillowcases on them when you arrive. Plus they suggest that you bring your own linens to do so which I discovered when I opened an email entitled "KEY Instructions"

Owner's Response: Maureen I am glad you enjoyed the house. We do ask guests who live in the Bay Area to provide their own linens. If you do not live in the Bay Area we will provide linens for you. We do not make the beds for you, as we have in the past but some guests felt they were unsure if the sheets were For them or from the pervious guests. Now there is no doubt as they are all clean waiting on top of the bed or in the linen closet for you. I am sorry you felt the car fee was high. I do agree, it is imposed my the home owners assoication, however, I do offer other ways to pay a reduced rate, I am sorry you did not inquire about it, if you come again, I will wave the fee. Hope you had a lovely time in Yosemite and you come back again.

A Little Piece of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Megan's home was a little piece of paradise! Our family had a wonderful time cooking great food, taking long hikes and playing in the snow in Yosemite! Our grand kids loved the down stairs play area, and we all enjoyed watching the deer in the evening. We look forward to staying at Pine Mountain again!
