About Sue or Bob Kust
We fell in love with Holland when we would visit our girls who both attended Hope College, when graduation time creeping up on us we set about to find a vacation home in this lovely community, We love the friendliness, shopping, farmers market, the lake and beaches and of course all that goes on at Hope College. Since we live in Cincinnati we decided to rent our house out so that others could enjoy it when we weren't there ourselves.
Sue or Bob Kust purchased this Cottage in 2012
Why Sue or Bob Kust chose Holland
We loved the cottagey feel and the proximity to the beach, there is nothing like taking a short walk down the street to the Lake, even in the winter. It is a changing landscape everyday. Also the house has plenty of room for a crowd and a great outdoor area. Its a great place to unwind.
What makes this Cottage unique
Close to the bike trails and beach but on a quite street away from the crowds. Short walk to the beach and short ride into town for restaurants and shopping

Great House in a great location!
We had a wonderful place for a long awaited family reunion. Great location, close to the beach and marathon. Would consider renting again. The only negative was the basement pull out couch was uncomfortable for my daughter and her husband, the rest of us slept well. House was very clean and everything worked well.
Glad you had a nice time - we haven’t had anyone else comment on the basement pullout but next time we stay we will pull it out and try it ourselves! 😉 We’d love to have you again!
Beautiful getaway. House was phenomenal.
Had a wonderful Family time away from everyday life. All ages enjoyed the property. No one felt confined, the layout is awesome.
Husar 2018 Family Vacation
Your property and grounds were very nice and very clean, we had a great time. Upstairs bedrooms were pretty warm and dvd player in basement was not working, you may want to look into those. We would recommend your rental to others.
Thanks for letting us know about the DVD player - we will look into that. We turn down the air to 68 at night so the upstairs is nice and cool and great for sleeping. Typically Holland is not so warm in the summer, especially out by the lake, but this year has been a hot one. Glad you had a nice time.
We really enjoyed our stay. The house was so clean and well-maintained. It is a short walk down the street to the lake and the beach. We came in town for a family wedding and it was the perfect place for our family of 8. The only negative was that there was not an ironing board. After flying in we had several items that needed ironing for the wedding. There is an iron but no ironing board, so ironing on the bed was a little challenging. Overall it was fantastic and if we ever come to the area again we would definitely stay here.
Great weekend getaway!
Loved the property. Short walk to the beach. House very clean with plenty of parking.
Glad you had a nice time! Loved having you!
Nice House Overall... Owners could be a bit more honest
Overall the home is lovely and a perfect fit for our group.
The House was clean, beautifully decorated, beds were comfortable and fireplace was wonderful as the nights and mornings were quite chilly!
The home is close to the beach, Lovely neighborhood, close to town and easy to find and access. If my decision was based solely on the House alone I would defiantly stay here again..
What I did not like however was the following:
1st, there is nothing in the listing info that says somebody else lives at the property. It is advertised as a private house. But in our welcome info we were informed the daughter lives in an apartment above the garage attached to the house.
This was not a problem overall however there is a door in the master bedroom that accesses the apartment and in the early morning I could hear her getting ready for work. Again not a huge issue I just think it should be listed somewhere in the listing so you truly know what your renting!
Next, my biggest issue. There was a “To Do” of things we were required to do prior to checking out with the comment that if the listed items were not done we would be charged!
Those items included taking out the garbage bins to the roadside that were overflowing with trash from the people who stayed there prior to us I assume. Two huge bins, both full and no room for our small bags so we placed them on top of the lids for the garbage to pick up! I really did not appreciate having to take out the garbage for prior guests!!
Also on the list, to make sure all beds were stripped of sheets and blankets, to start a load of laundry, and to be sure all dishes were washed and put away!
Now I don’t have a problem making sure things are clean and picked up, that’s something I always do, but to strip the beds and start the laundry when we are paying $200 a night and a $150 cleaning fee???
And to be told if these things are not done we will get charged? I’m sorry this did not set well with me! I could see asking the guests to do some of these things but to require it? I’m sorry isn’t that what we pay the cleaning fee for???
I’m certain the $150 cleaning fee more than coved the cost of the crew after we left!
All in all as I said the house was beautiful, I enjoyed our time there and I would be happy to recommend it. However I think it’s taking advantage of your guests to “require” cleaning services when we are being charged for them also!
Just some things to keep in mind when booking this house!
I’m glad you had a nice time - I’m sorry that you didn’t like the checkout guidelines. . Since we only have a few hours to turn the house for the next guests, it really helps if someone can help with a few things like get a load of laundry started. It is totally a time issue. Washers take so long now that we have real trouble getting all the laundry done, dried and put on the beds in the time allotted. We really appreciate when guests can help us out.
We also only ask that you start the dishwasher for the same reason and don't say anywhere that you will be charged.
"Check out is 11 am to allow us to clean and prepare the cottage for the next guests if you could help us with the items below we would appreciate it." taken directly from the checkout sheet
Also garbage is only collected one day a week in Holland so when previous guests don’t put out the garbage then the bins get filled up for the next guests. We try to have people check on the garbage since we don’t live in Holland but unfortunately they must have missed the week you were there. We will reinforce that gets done. I’m sorry that happened.
Glad you had a nice time otherwise
