About Sue or Bob Kust

We fell in love with Holland when we would visit our girls who both attended Hope College, when graduation time creeping up on us we set about to find a vacation home in this lovely community, We love the friendliness, shopping, farmers market, the lake and beaches and of course all that goes on at Hope College. Since we live in Cincinnati we decided to rent our house out so that others could enjoy it when we weren't there ourselves.

Sue or Bob Kust purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Sue or Bob Kust chose West Central

We loved the cottagey feel and the proximity to the beach, there is nothing like taking a short walk down the street to the Lake, even in the winter. It is a changing landscape everyday. Also the house has plenty of room for a crowd and a great outdoor area. Its a great place to unwind.

What makes this cottage unique

Close to the bike trails and beach but on a quite street away from the crowds. Short walk to the beach and short ride into town for restaurants and shopping

We felt at home here in Holland. Very neat downtown area. Bummer about the cold, rainy weather.

  • 5 of 5

The house was very cozy and clean! Plenty of space! My two boys, ages 13 and 10 enjoyed the foosball table in the basement! We enjoyed our last night watching a movie near the easy to use fireplace! I would recommend this property for anyone wishing to visit the Holland area! I hope to be back!

Fabulous, clean and adorable home!

Our family felt right at home in this darling lake house. It has all the comforts of home and is in a great location. We biked, beached, kayaked, blueberry picked and relaxed. We'd love to come back again!

Great decor!

  • 4 of 5

First of all the owner, Sue, was easy to work with and responded quickly to any questions I had before and during my family's stay.

I can't say enough about the overall feel of the place. It's so inviting and right away you feel like you are on a beach vacation. The pictures are accurate! The only part my family didn't use as much was the basement. Although decorated very well and clean, it was still a basement with minimal, if any, natural light. The rest had lots of windows and natural light. Just a few things were broken/not cleaned: a bottom cupboard, doorknob, a microwave with probably tomato sauce still stuck on the bottom. Nothing major at all.

The outdoors was landscaped very well. Lots of beautiful flowers and the stone path to the fire pit was a nice touch! We loved gathering for S'mores at night.

The driveway was paved and you are required to park at the end of the driveway so you avoid blocking in the owner's daughter. There is enough room for two good size SUVs, but the pine trees growing on either side do block entry and exit into your vehicle. These could be cut back a bit so you didn't get a mouth full each time you opened your door.

The owner's daughter lives above the garage and keeps to herself. We saw her a couple times coming/going and picking up her trash bin. It wasn't a problem, but some people may not feel comfortable.

The owner provided most of everything inside the home. You will want to bring your own lawnchairs to the beach if you prefer not to sit on the sand. The ones provided looked more like small fold up square tables. There are a few noodles in the basement but you will want to bring your own outdoor beach equip/toys for kids. I was initially confused when the VRBO website listed kayaks under amenities. These are available for rental somewhere in Holland.

The location is close to Tunnel Park and within waking distance. It was tough with a one year old and multiple smaller kids so we ended up driving. The beach was smaller than expected so I would go either earlier or later to find a better spot. Unfortunately Lake Michigan was dirty with lots of trash seen including candy wrappers, plastic , disposable gloves, etc.

Overall, we had a good experience and thought the place was very charming! Thank you!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review. I just wanted to clear up a couple of points. Kayaks are listed as available to rent in the notes on the vrbo listing, the same with bikes. I checked the listing after you mentioned that to me. I would also like to clarify about the beach comments, the size of the beach ebbs and flows each year. Sometimes the beach is larger than other years, this year there is a bigger sandbar and smaller beach, Mother Nature is in charge of that but we also have Holland State Park that is very convenient a mile away with a very , very large beach. I have never seen any trash at all in the water or on the beach at any of the beaches we go to in Holland. Tunnel Park, State Park, James Street or Riley Beach and we have never heard anyone say this in the years we have been renting or going ourselves. We do know that exists in Lake Mac on occasion but not in Lake Michigan. So sorry you ran into that. Glad you had a nice stay!

Wonderful house with a close drive to the beach.

  • 4 of 5

Well maintained home with enough space to comfortably house 9 persons. We had 6 adults and 3 kids. The beach is a 2 minute drive down the road. While not a big beach, it is beautiful and has a nice sized swimming area. Caution it is quite a steep walk down the sand to the water. Everything you would need or want to see is within a 10-15 minute drive and the home is not on a busy road.

Just a few minute walk to beautiful Lake Michigan and Tunnel Park. Enjoy the stunning views of clear blue water, sailboats and seagulls as you kick back and unwind. There’s no better place to be in the spring than Holland's Tulip Time Festival. Known for our famous Tulip Time Festival, Windmill Island and Dutch Village just to name a few of our local attractions. Fall is a great time to take a hike and enjoy the fall colors. We are surrounded by miles and miles of bike trails. You can bike all the way to Grand Haven along the lakefront. In the winter curl up next to your own cozy fireplace, cross country ski or just marvel at Lake Michigan’s Icebergs. The downtown is a great place to shop even during the snowiest winter days with help of our heated downtown sidewalks and outdoor fireplace. Holland’s downtown is vibrant year round and is a huge draw for locals and visitors alike. Don't forget to visit our famous Holland Farmers Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays summer and Fall! Christmas Market after Thanksgiving !
