About Tara McDivitt-Dodd

This one Bedroom, One bath, Ground floor unit was bought in the 1960's by my grandfather. Now, owned by my aunt, she shares the unit by renting it out to family, friends and friends of friends.

With my mother next door, my family (husband and 2 children) and I live on Whidbey Island and already know why island living is so special. However we sometimes do not get to visit this comfortable condo as often as we like. Because we all are living busy lives, my mother and I have agreed to help my aunt out by managing and organizing the renting of my grandfather's unit through VRBO for more people to enjoy.

Also note: we have found that the constant ocean breeze was more pleasant than dry, cold, air conditioning so it was never installed.

What a great location for a super clean condo.

This condo was very clean, and the location is superb -- you're a block off the main drag, so it's convenient to everything in Kihei. It's a very short walk to a grocery store, or to a nice coffee shop for a morning jolt. A longer walk, or a short drive, to many excellent restaurants.

The condo complex was quiet. The condo shuffleboard is right outside the sliding door of the condo, so a little noise from that but only occasionally, and never at night. Things quieted down very nicely at night. Close to the pool, too -- maybe 5 or 6 doors down? Pool was small, as far as I could see, didn't go it -- the ocean beckoned. Warning about the ocean: The beach is mostly sandy, but there are pieces of coral. Wear shoes in the water. It's easy for the waves to make you step onto a small piece of coral. Ouch.

We were there in June and it was a little warm in the bedroom, even with the ceiling fan, but I still slept well.

The condo was well-stocked with beach paraphernalia -- that we didn't use, because we were out driving around the island -- and the nice location of this condo made visiting any part of the island pretty easy.

One slight negative -- the decor is a bit dated. Well, who is there to admire the interior of a condo is what I say! I'm heading outside!

I would definitely go back.

Functional unit in a very good location with ocean and greenbelt/palm tree views

Excellent ocean front location near stores and restaurants. Walk able beach with a mixture of sand and rocks. Can walk/run about 5 total miles on the beach out front round trip, which I did most mornings when not running Sugar Beach or south Kihei/Wailea. I ran barefooted watching carefully for rocks, but carried sandals which I slipped on in a couple of rocky areas on the beach. Easy, ample parking near front door. Hose in front of patio to wash sand off your legs.

Although unit is not luxurious, it is more than adequate, particularly for a solo traveler (like me) or a couple. I think it would be quite crowded for more than 2 people and it's perfect for one. Adequate kitchen although only two burners, no built in oven, and a large toaster/convection oven on the counter. I ate all meals in and had no problem. The owner has the kitchen completely equipped with nice dishes, stemware, pots and pans, knives, bowls, glasses, blender, electric kettle, crock pot, toaster, etc., etc. Everything you need to be self sufficient should you wish to eat healthy at home.

The bedroom has no drapes and gets the easterly sun early (around 5 a.m. mid year) so bring a sleep mask if you want to sleep in, as I did.

Nice patio with a table and 3 chairs plus a 4th rocking chair, plus a side table. Community chaise lounges in front of patio.

I enjoyed my quiet time at the unit although afternoon shuffleboard games by energetic families did ensue on several days outside in the patio area. Convenient if you play shuffleboard, not a real problem if you don't.

The unit was perfect for me and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again, as I probably will. The owner (Tara) was easy to deal with and accommodating. She refunded my deposit in full within 3 days. Of course I took good care of the unit and treated it as I do my own home.

Amazing experience!

Tara was so accommodating with our last minute reservation. The unit is right on the water which made for smiles all around. Unit was clean and had everything we needed- can't wait to stay here again !

Renovation needed.

Honestly I am surprised to see so many 5 star reviews. I stayed there for 9 days and can tell that the condo needs to be renovated. The furniture is old and smells bad. However the price and location are great.

When I first time turned on the ceiling fan in the bedroom, the pull-string fall off without applying any force. It was not a good surprise on arrival but I knew it was easy to fix. I also left the note for the owner.

Upon checking out we cleaned the condo, restocked everything as described, left food in the fridge and trashed the expired as per manual wrote by the owner. However she decided to keep the deposit because "there was a sand everywhere in the condo". Well, Tara, as you say about the dust in your manual, the "sand is a fact of life here and shows up daily" even though you rinse your feet with outside hose. The condo is located on the beach and after 9 days you'll inevitably see traces of sand don't matter how good you rinse it off outside.

I do not like to write the negative reviews but would like to warn those who will stay here: you will not get your deposit back.

Owner's Response: This review needs clarification on our part. The cost to repair the fan that the renter damaged exceeded the damage deposit and we did not try to recoup the extra cleaning charge we were charged to remove the EXCESSIVE amount of sand in the bathroom shower. Proven to him by photo. Sand is very very bad for the plumbing. Something we strongly require guests to wash off outside. For years we have had wonderful longterm and returning guests and were disappointed to have to retain a damage deposit for the first time. Yes the unit still has the original cabinetry and counter tops but the sofa is just over a year old, the mattress is approximatetly 2 years old and the television is only a month and a half. All is easily shown in the photos. Thus our choice to offer a better value in pricing compared to other upgraded units. So please read all the reviews to get a broader picture of what our condo truly is.

Great location, great value, everything you need.

Condo was exactly what we wanted when visiting Maui. Upon arrival, the place was very clean, and everything we needed was there. The Lanai opened up to a breathtaking view, and we were 20 steps from the gorgeous beach.

Grocery store, coffee shops, gas and restaurants were all within walking distances. I recommend The Coffee Store for morning , and Coconuts Fish Cafe for lunch.

One thing I would advise is to have a good look around, as we didn't realize how much useful information was made available to us until the end.. There was everything from Maui travel books, past travellers tips and one gem - the Road to Hana CD.

Condo had all the right gear for the beach. Great quality Snorkel gear, beach mats, towels, beach chairs, 2 decent sized coolers. Everything you need.

When we come back to Maui, we will defiantly plan our trip on the availability of this Condo. It worked out perfectly.

This was truly a great time.
