About Marie M. Hall

I was born in Texas then moved to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. During this time, my father, a Vietnam veteran, was serving in the Army’s Special Forces. I grew up in Buncombe County where the family home had been established in the late 1800s. I have lived in North Dakota, California, Idaho, Washington State and Australia. As a missionary nurse, I have traveled to Peru, Guatemala, Indonesia, and Australia. I have three border collies-PRINCESS Kenai, Shammy and Healy, Coxie-the rooster and his nine hens, and some minx cats that enjoy my family farm with me.

Marie M. Hall purchased this cabin in 1985

Why Marie M. Hall chose Leicester

This is a family inheritance which I am privileged to own. I want you to share with me in this experience of beauty and solitude. No city lights, just God's heavenly stars. A bird watchers sanctuary and great hiking.

What makes this cabin unique

Completely private, peaceful, relaxing experience. Claw footed tub (Hillbilly Hot Tub) on front porch with modern amenities. A bubbling mountain brook flows continuously beside the unique cabin.

Charmingly comfortable with unique local flair.

  • 4 of 5

The cabin sat back in the woods welcoming visitors to come sit a while. The landscaping was beautifully placed to allow butterflies, good smells, and peacefulness. Inside, the cabin was well stocked and had everything you could possibly need, even down to an array of spices. The bedrooms were separate and the one bath was large and very clean with lots of towels. Be prepared for a bumpy ride into the cabin over a gravel road and some turns. A wonderful value.

Great Little Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

It was a delightful little cabin nestled in the woods. My friend and I wanted to get away from the Charleston heat and our crazy jobs. It was very peaceful with lots of nature (birds, plants, etc.) yet close enough to Ashville to enjoy the city when we wanted more. Marie is a delight and her pooches as well! She brought us fresh eggs and vegetables and gave us ideas of where to go. The bath tub on the porch certainly was unique but I thoroughly enjoyed it! It is actually a working tub. We also went to Ashville for the Friday night drumming circle which is great and also the Folk Art Center. Linville Caverns which is a bit of a drive (hour and a half) was quite interesting.

I would definitely recommend staying there. We definitely recharged!

Beautiful little cabin

  • 5 of 5

This is a great little cabin in the woods. Perfect for a getaway. The owner could not have been more helpful and even brought us fresh eggs for our first breakfast. It's quiet and secluded, but only 20 min. from Asheville. Humming birds on the porch throughout the day and lightning bugs in the evening made for great entertainment. We recommend it highly!

Beautiful, mountain cabin with relaxing front porch with a soaking tub.

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely log cabin, mountain experience. The House was very clean and we felt right at home. We cooked several meals so we wouldn’t have to leave. The porch was our favorite spot offering relaxing rocking chairs and a soaking tub. At night we watched the lightning bugs sparkle in the yard. During the day, we hiked all through the woods and stuck our toes in the brook. While all this was wonderful, the greatest gift of all came from getting to know Marie and her sweet pup, Kenai. We were truly blessed to have had our time at the Star Haven Lodging. We hope to return soon!
