Cozy mountain cabin bordering national forest

Bedrooms 2
Space 905 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 5 nights

About the property

2 bedroom, 1 bathroom cabin on forested lot at the base of Mount Pisgah

Rustic and inviting cabin along a lovely mountain creek, borders Pisgah National Forest. You will love relaxing on the deck under the trees listening to the peaceful sounds of our creek. Inside your private retreat you will find a full kitchen, loft with queen size bed and full size bed in the downstairs bedroom. Comfortable dining and living areas with TV, Blue Ray player and free high-speed wireless Internet access. Spend the cool evenings in front of a cozy fire.

Nestled at the base of Mount Pisgah, your backyard is over 80,000 acres of protected National Forest. Enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and long nature walks just outside the front door. Take a leisurely drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, just four miles from the cabin. At Creekstone Cabin you're only a 20-minute drive to Asheville and the best the area has to offer in attractions, entertainment, dining, shopping, outdoor activities, and more.

The upstairs loft is accessed by a narrow spiral staircase to the catwalk (see pictures) leading to the bed area at one end and and the dressing area at the other. Please mind your head up here as the ceiling is vaulted and the highest clearance is only 6 feet. The queen size bed faces creek side, letting you drift off to sleep to its soothing sound. When you awaken, you will find yourself just below canopy level looking down on the moss and rhododendron-covered back yard; a great way to greet your day. The downstairs bedroom has a full size bed that also faces creek side so everyone gets lulled to sleep by the burbling creek.

The kitchen is fully equipped with cookware, bakeware and your serving/dining needs. The kitchen has a microwave, toaster, mixer, utensils, paper and cleaning products, and full sized stove and range; everything you need to prepare a great meal. In the cabinet above the microwave you will find growlers to a couple of our local breweries and we hope you put them to good use!

The living area is a great place to relax for conversation or a good book in front of a crackling fire. Enjoy a movie from our library or stream from the cabin's Netflix account or your own streaming service via ROKU. Use your mobile device to stream your own music playlists through the Bluetooth equipped surround sound system. My cabin provides a great blend of rustic feel with the modern conveniences of the digital age.

The well lit bathroom has modern fixtures, and offers a shower/tub combination. While small it has what you need, including hair dryer, soaps and shampoo in case you run short, and all your linen/paper needs.

The three season deck is just about every guest's favorite feature; a spacious 16' x 20' with gas grill, teak furniture, tiki torches and deck umbrella complete with lights! Great for entertaining, reading, watching the humming birds, goldfinches, and cardinals all to the backdrop of the burbling creek. To sit out here wrapped in the nurturing embrace of the woods will renew your strength and replenish your spirit.

Off the back side of the deck is a path that leads across the creek and into the national forest. Enjoy a short hike to Stony Fork Creek (1/3 mile) or a 3 mile round trip journey up to the abandoned logging road on the ridge line above the cabin. Take a walk down the road and explore the modest homes and cabins in the area.

The Pisgah National Forest and DuPont Forest in the area offer more hiking than a person could possibly do in a lifetime. You will find hiking guide books and maps at the cabin that can help you decide which hikes are right for you. The Blue Ridge Parkway is 4 miles up the road from the cabin offering breath taking views, scenic drives, and (you guessed it!) plenty of hiking.

I'd like to say thank you for taking the time to consider booking my cabin. This truly is a special place that is precious to me; I miss living here every single day. My intent is to return and make Creekstone Cabin my permanent residence in 2020, maybe earlier if I'm very lucky. It has been a joy for me to share the cabin with like-minded people, looking for respite from life's demands. I am truly grateful to all my guests; you make it possible for me to hold on to this rustic gem.

About John

I grew up in a navy family, living all across the US; from Hawaii to Florida. While serving my country, I was able to continue my travels and experience different cultures and visit many amazing places. I have a great appreciation of life's simple pleasures and I believe Creekstone Cabin is one of those special places where you can reconnect with nature and truly relax.

John purchased this cabin in 1998

Why John chose Candler

The cabin was my primary residence for many years. I've since moved to Raleigh to pursue career opportunities but I could not bring myself to sell the cabin. One stay and you'll understand why; it's a small slice of heaven complete with a babbling brook to lull you to sleep. This truly is a rustic gem and I hope that all who stay at Creekstone Cabin will love it as much as I do.

What makes this cabin unique

Enjoy the big stone fireplace with wood burning stove to warm up by. Upstairs loft-style bedroom feels like your staying in a tree house and both bedrooms face the creek side of the house. The deck is perfect for enjoying your favorite beverage while watching the hummingbirds and goldfinches. Take a hike in the Pisgah National Forest following the path right from the deck! There are modern touches that I've done my best to merge with the rustic - Surround sound with blue tooth connectivity, high speed wireless internet, LED TV, and all modern appliances.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We felt at home in a vacation-y sort of way, like we had been coming here for years. The cabin is comfy and has everything you might need, including the burbling creek for a lullaby.

The sound of the creek was lovely and the hummingbirds were probably more exciting to us than they should have been but we waited anxiously for them and were so thrilled when they buzzed by! The beds were in a word AWESOME.... I loved the easy to use kitchen and how homey it all was for my family. It has everything ! A little close to one neighbor but we were all very chill and it was relaxing and private enough to make the trip home a little hard to start! Worth it and worth repeating! Thanks for a great little vacation!

Family vacation

  • 5 of 5

We loved the cabin. Very cute and charming tucked in the woods. My daughter loved watching the hummingbirds flying around the feeder. John and Beth called/texted to checked on us. The kitchen had lot of extras. It was nice listening to the creek in the back and the birds in the morning while sitting on the deck. We enjoyed the hard cider and brewery in the area. We did some sightseeing. Visited the Biltmore and zoological park.

Owner's Response: Thank you, Melissa. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. I know that the soggy weather curtailed some of the outdoor activities during your time here. I hope you have a chance to return to Asheville and experience the outdoors in glorious weather. We’d love to have you back! -John

Inviting, cozy, peaceful.

Great cabin with awesome sounds of the birds and a wonderful creek. Nestled in a shady alcove of nature. Well stocked with a lot of extras like maps, guide books, backpack, boxes of Kleenex ( for us allergy sufferers ), movies, games, etc.A very friendly, attentive and helpful owner.

Quiet and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was wonderful. Small and quaint. Comfortable bed. Great shower. Loaded with everything you need. The deck was our favorite. We really enjoyed sitting outside listening to the sounds of nature, reading, thinking, and just relaxing. It was so beautiful and peaceful that I would sometimes just get lost in thought, sipping on my coffee. The cabin was also very close to Asheville so we went into town every evening to shop and enjoy some local restaurants and breweries. (John's recommendations were excellent!) We also visited the Biltmore Estate which was amazing. We really enjoyed our stay!

Simply Fantastic

  • 5 of 5

My 2 children (ages 4 and 7), my husband, and I stayed at this cabin for a week in mid-June. It was our first time using VRBO as well as our first time visiting the Asheville/Pisgah forest area.

We had an absolutely fantastic time! The week was a good mix of exploration and relaxation. We took a scenic drive up to and along the Blue Ridge Parkway, chased waterfalls (went down Sliding Rock and splashed in the swimming hole at Looking Glass Falls), drove into Asheville and ate a stellar lunch at Sunny Point Cafe, explored downtown, took a tour of the Biltmore, and did some shopping. The rest of our time was spent enjoying this beautiful cabin. The kids splashed around in the creek behind the house, we did some hiking on the adjacent trails, and spent a ton of time hanging out on the deck listening to the sounds of the creek while grilling, sipping on some local kombucha, and reading a book. There was so much more in the area that we wanted to do but just didn't have enough time to do it (weekly vacations go by too quickly!).

The cabin itself is great. We cooked most of our meals there in the well-stocked kitchen (plenty of pots/pans, etc. as well as basic spices, oils, etc.). We were also impressed with the availability of nice white, clean linens and towels. The house was clean and well maintained. The only suggestion I would make would be to replace the couches in the living room to upgrade the comfort factor. At night, we cracked the window in our loft bedroom to hear the sound of the creek. Definitely watch your head when you walk around upstairs! The forest and foliage around the house was green and lush, and the creek cold and mesmerizing. We loved the ambiance of the deck in the evenings, with the lighted umbrella and tiki torches. There were citronella candles provided, but you may want to bring some bug spray. ;-)

The host (John) was sure to check in with us to make sure everything was to our liking. We also met Beth, who was very friendly and accommodating.

All-in-all, we very much enjoyed our stay. This cabin is truly a little slice of heaven - it affords the opportunity to "get away from it all" and immerse oneself in the tranquility of nature while being convenient to the amenities of the city. I would highly recommend Creekstone Cabin to anyone interested in this type of experience, and am so grateful to our host for sharing this beautiful home with us. We hope to make it back someday!
