About Tammy Capps

Tammy is from North Carolina and has directed non-profit youth programs and a local Americorps program. She is currently on a sabbatical while starting a business to assist seniors in navigating the adventures of aging. Tammy has worked to be a good steward of the land, these mountains and our mother earth: growing her own fruits and vegetables, preserving them for the winter, recycling and composting all garbage, trying to reuse instead of buying new when possible. Efforts are always made to buy local and American made products. After a great deal of planning and hard work, Tammy is excited to invite you for a luxurious, romantic stay in the cabin!

Why Tammy Capps chose Candler

Why the Owner Chose Asheville:

Tammy planned and renovated this cabin with her own two hands over the last twenty years, while continuing to work full-time. She started the project with the goal of renovating a cabin with a small carbon footprint and utilizing many materials from the mountain. WOW, what a project! With lots and lots of hard work and the loving support of her family the cabin is ready for guests. Why the property? Tammy spent most of her childhood in this area and fell in love with the beauty and majesty of these mountains in the Pisgah National Forest at an early age. When looking to move back to the area and purchase a home in 1991, she would only look at homes in the Candler/Upper Hominy area believing this to be the most beautiful community in the Asheville area. Twenty years ago Tammy began to clear land and landscape the 4-acre property. The project was worth it---she built a mountain oasis beyond belief.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin provides all of the modern comforts in a peaceful wooded setting at the base of Mt. Pisgah. The yearround views of the mountain through the large glass windows are spectacular. Couples can enjoy both the sunrise and the sunset over the mountain tops. The property is a certified wildlife habitat proving the four basic elements needed for wildlife to thrive: food water, cover and places to raise their young. The wooded canopy of oaks, poplar and maple cover the mountain view during the summer months, and provide cool shade for relaxing outside on the decks, gazebo or in the hammock beside the waterfall. The cabin is positioned so that passive solar assists the heating and cooling.

Can't Beat the Location

  • 5 of 5

Can’t beat the location. We spent our days hiking along the Blue Ridge Parkway and Mountains-to-Sea trail, and we spent our evenings enjoying hot meals and resting our sore muscles in the hot tub while enjoying the views of the mountains we had just hiked. There were incredible views from cabin and the many outdoor spaces. The cabin was the perfect size for two, and we tried to take advantage of the many outdoor space options. Although there was nice seating inside, we ate every meal at one of the three outdoor tables. The kitchen is fully stocked with cooking utensils; we lacked for nothing. There were ladybugs around the windows (our trip fell during the ladybug season), but they were harmless and not a bother.

The owner, Tammy, was very accommodating for the entire trip, and she clearly cares about the property. One of the doors in the cabin stuck; Tammy answered our call right away and a neighbor came to fix the door within minutes. The response time was incredible; it probably took less than 30 minutes from the time we noticed the door was stuck to the time that it was fixed. I felt very confident that should we have any other complaints they would be addressed quickly, but we had no other issues.

The Mountain View Cabin was perfect for enjoying the peaceful mountain setting, either in the hot tub, hammocks, the fire pit, or one of the outdoor tables. Our trip was wonderful, and we certainly did not want to leave.

Owner's Response: Thanks! I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay. Lady bug season is almost over and I just planted the spring garden for our guests. Hopefully, you will be able to return to the mountains again soon. Peace Always, Tammy

Beautiful surroundings/outdoors

  • 2 of 5

I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Asheville and this cabin rates as the lowest. The location was perfect and the views were awesome! The cabin upon entering is adorable and perfect for a romantic getaway. Unfortunately, minor renovations such as the bathroom were clearly done by an amateur. The biggest issue I had was the cleanliness of the cabin. Upon entering the bathroom, the smell of urine was fairly strong. At first I thought it was faulty plumbing but upon closer observation, it was the bathtub and shower curtain liner!!! The bottom of the liner was not only moldy but saturated with the smell of urine. It took a half of a bottle of bathroom spray to get rid of the smell. Needless to say, the cleanliness of the cabin at that point was questionable. It put quite a damper on the rest of my stay.

Romantic and beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved this house! The views of the mountains were beautiful, especially with the leaves changing. The house was the perfect size for a romantic getaway and the drive to downtown Asheville is easy and quick. Homeowner was easy to keep in touch with and quick to respond. We had no issues staying here and will likely return. Highly recommended!

Great Getaway Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

What a place that had absolutely everything. A beautiful setting. We had camp fires the three nights we were there. Lots of wonderful outdoor seating areas. And the location was perfect for easy access to some great hiking off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Also, easy to get to downtown Asheville. You can't go wrong with Tammy's very special retreat. We hope to return for another stay.

Car: necessary

Only 16 miles from downtown Asheville, the cabin is located beside the Pisgah National Forest. Hiking trails are abundant only minutes away on the Blue Ridge Parkway. March to November you can enjoy breakfast at the Pisgah Inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway. A favorite downtown shopping spot in Asheville, Hendersonville, and Waynseville is Mast General Store. Our favorite restaurants are the Admiral and Curate', you must make reservations early though. Other great places to dine in downtown Asheville include Limones, Salsa, Zombra, Tupelo Honey and Mela.
