About Tammy Capps

Tammy is from North Carolina and has directed non-profit youth programs and a local AmeriCorps program. She is currently starting a new business called Senior Care Management of WNC.

Both Carmen and Tammy work to be good stewards of the land, these mountains and our mother earth: growing our own fruits and vegetables, preserving them for the winter, recycling and composting all garbage, trying to reuse instead of buying new when possible. Efforts are always made to buy local and American made products.

After a great deal of planning and hard work, Carmen and Tammy are excited to invite you for a luxurious, romantic stay in our new cabin!

Tammy Capps purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Tammy Capps chose Smoky Mountains

Tammy and her ex-partner, Carmen planned and built this cabin with their own two hands, while continuing to work full-time. It took two years! Starting with the goal of building a cabin with a small carbon footprint and utilizing green building techniques the two women started the project. WOW, what a project! A local builder got us off to an amazing start. With lots and lots of hard work and the loving support of our families the cabin was completed in August, 2012.

Why the property? Tammy spent most of her childhood in this area and fell in love with the beauty and majesty of these mountains in the Pisgah National Forest at an early age. When looking to move back to the area and purchase a home in 1991, she would only look at homes in the Candler/Upper Hominy area believing this to be the most beautiful community in the Asheville area. Twenty years ago Tammy began to clear land and landscape the 4-acre property. The project was worth it, as it is now a mountain oasis beyond belief.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin provides all of the modern comforts in a peaceful wooded setting at the base of Mt. Pisgah. The fall and winter views of the mountain through the large glass windows are spectacular. The wooded canopy of oaks, poplar and maple cover the mountain view during the summer months, and provide cool shade for relaxing outside on the deck or patio.

The cabin was built so that passive solar would assist the heating and cooling. In addition, NC made eco panels, rostra block and other sustainable products were used as our building materials making it very well insulated, so it will use very little energy. The tankless water heater and radiant floor heat are also eco-friendly ways to conserve energy while allowing our guests to try out these new 'green' products out for themselves.

The 100 year old oak barnwood posts and inside trim throughout the cabin took several months to pull rusted nails, plane and refinish. The wood was purchased in Candler for $100.

The cabin is centrally located to so many diverse day-trip activities. There is something for everyone here!

Great Experience in Asheville, NC

  • 5 of 5

The property is well maintained by the owner / maintenance team. The directions were spot on and access to the unit was easy. Externally, the grill, fire pit, hot tub, and multiple hammocks provided ample outdoor activity. Additionally, the unit was spotless on the inside. The cabin had every amenity needed to make you feel like you were at home. The views of the mountains during the day and the stars at night were better than any TV show you could watch. We would highly recommend this unit and are already planning a return visit later this year.

Wonderful NC mountain retreat

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect cabin for a quiet and relaxing winter retreat. The cabin exceeded our expectations in every way. The amenities are exactly as described and we found the cabin to be clean and welcoming. The kitchen contained everything necessary for preparing meals. The cabin's furnishings were current and clean. The wireless internet was helpful as cell service was spotty in the area. The location is perfect for exploring the hiking trails along the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway which is located just a short drive up a picturesque mountain road. The cabin was equipped with everything needed for a relaxing vacation. It was hard to leave the cabin and we would love to return soon. Thank you, Tammy!

Amazing!!!

  • 5 of 5

If we are ever in the Asheville area again, this is where we will stay again! It was amazing! Tammy makes sure that everything is stocked and available that could ever be needed (besides food, of course). The cabin is romantic and secluded with the most beautiful scenery. I did not want to leave! The hot tub is amazing, the bed is cozy, the couch is comfy, there are a ton of tv channels to cuddle up to and watch. One can go hicking or bird watching as well. And its close to everything! Thank you Tammy for letting us stay in your beautiful cabin!

Romantic Cabin Hide Away - Christmas in the Mountains

  • 5 of 5

The property was exactly as represented in the description. It was a beautifully decorated Cabin in the woods. We're from Florida and wanted to experience a more Christmas feeling in colder weather and we loved it. The place is only about 30 minutes from the Biltmore and downtown Asheville. If you're into hiking we also went to Chimney Rock which is where The Last of The Mohicans was filmed. The Blue Ridge Parkway is also 30 minutes away and is stunning. It is definitely a keeper. Thank you, Tammy for your hospitality

Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I were looking for an escape around the Christmas season that could allow us some downtime and also let us get a jumpstart on Christmas shopping. This cabin was perfect for both. The proximity to Asheville, Hendersonville, Brevard and others allowed us to have an enjoyable time shopping and the remote cabin was a great retreat. The description of the cabin online was exactly as we found it. As other reviewers have said, the final portion of the drive was a bit tricky to get in and out of, particularly without 4-wheel drive, but we just parked at the top and walked down the short drive. Everything was perfect inside and out. Thanks so much for a great stay.

Map

Car: necessary

Only 16 miles from downtown Asheville our cabin is located beside the Pisgah National Forest.

Hiking trails are abundant only minutes away on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

March to November you can enjoy breakfast at the Pisgah Inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

A favorite downtown shopping spot in Asheville, Hendersonville, and Waynseville is Mast General Store.

Our favorite restaurants are the Admiral and Curate', you must make reservations early though.
