Our home is located at nearly 3700' in elevation and on over an acre of land in the well established gated community of Hurricane Ridge. We spent over 6 months renovating this entire home from top to bottom, literally. While it is not brand new, this mountain home might as well be. All three floors of this home have been completely gutted and renovated back to the studs and even expanded in some cases. We looked for every opportunity to make this great house even better; including the addition of a third bedroom, additional viewing areas and private deck to the existing downstairs bedroom, an expanded downstairs bathroom to include both a shower and large soaking tub (no jets), all new cabinetry for both kitchen and bathrooms, fixtures, countertops, and new Pella vinyl low E windows throughout the entire home. We added new insulation, electrical, plumbing and a new 15 SEER Maytag heating and cooling system; all to make the entire house as energy efficient as possible. The entire home has been completely furnished by the High Country Furnishings and Design store located in Waynesville, NC. New luxury linens for both bedding and bath are provided for our guest comfort. Egyptian cotton sheets with 600 thread count for both King beds, plush thick towels for the bath. A completely new deck was added to ensure you can enjoy probably the best feature of the house, the view from the outside. The deck wraps the east, south and west sides of the house. For entertainment we have made every effort to meet the needs of all vacationers. Every bedrooms includes a 39 inch wall mounted Toshiba 1080p HDTV and a 49 inch Insignia 1080i HDTV in the loft. Each TV has Directv whole home DVR satellite service. It is never fun to go on vacation to discover they don't have the channels you watch at home and you have to miss that favorite sports event you were planning to watch or special show on HGTV. The Directv service includes over 160 channels, as well as the NFL Ticket for football fans out there.
Our loft is a great viewing and game area with a new double size futon couch, a 4'x8' Connelly tournament pool table with all the accessories, a professional Foosball table and a 49 inch Insignia 1080i HDTV with Directv DVR satellite service. Children games and children DVD's are offered so the little ones have something to watch if you are not in the mood to watch another Disney movie for the 10th time! The loft also has it's own small private deck via an 8' sliding glass door.
On the main floor, the kitchen has been completely remodeled with all new stainless steel Whirlpool appliances, Kraftmaid cabinetry, granite counter tops and new Moen fixtures. We paid great attention to the type of cookware that would be in the kitchen only using kitchen tools we want to use when on vacation. After paying good money to stay in vacation rentals it was awful having to cook with poor quality pots and pans and plastic cooking items. We did our best to buy the most affordable high quality items to help create that perfect dining experience. Enjoy Crate and Barrel dishware, stainless steel cookware , Cuisinart Stainless steel kitchen knives, wine glasses and a new Cuisinart coffee maker to make that perfect brew. While you are cooking in the kitchen family members can pull up a bar stool at the middle island and you can still be in the middle of the fun and enjoy the great mountain view!
The main floor bedroom includes all new furnishings from High Country Furnishings and Design and the large king bed is topped with a luxurious Beautyrest mattress. Also for entertainment the main floor master bedroom includes a wall mounted 39 inch Toshiba 1080p HDTV with Directv DVR satellite service. The main floor bath has been remodeled and includes new tile, new cabinetry with granite counter tops and new Moen fixtures. Jennifer and I are native Floridians and live just north of Orlando with our three children; Evie (8), Eston (6) and Ellie (4). After vacationing in western North Carolina for most of my childhood, Jennifer and I were lucky enough to live in Waynesville for several years after we graduated from college and getting marred in 1995. After moving back to Florida in the late 90's we continued to vacation in western North Carolina. In between then and now we decided to enter the vacation rental business here in Florida to allow our family and other families to enjoy the beautiful beaches of Florida. We have really enjoyed running our vacation rental business and had decided early on that we would like to one day expand that business to include a home in the western North Carolina mountains. In the fall of 2012 that vision became a reality with our purchase of this beautiful home near Waynesville, NC.
Please check out the reviews to our other vacation properties and you will see that while this is a new property for us, it is definitely not our first time in the vacation rental business. It was our intention as we rebuilt this home to also use this for our own family just like our other vacation rental properties and for that reason we have tried to make sure that no detail is left out so that we along with you can enjoy this beautiful location. We hope you enjoy it as much as us.
Jennifer W Tanner purchased this house in 2012
We searched for many years for just the right property. In 2010 we purchased a vacant lot not to far from Waynesville with the intention of one day building a vacation rental property but it did not take too long for us to realize that due to the rising cost of building materials it would take many more years than we first thought for us to realize our dream. While taking one of our annual vacations in the fall of 2012 with some friends of ours who also like to vacation in the western North Carolina mountains, we met with a friend of theirs, who just happened to be a real estate agent. After spending a few minutes talking about what we were looking for in vacation home, he offered to show us a property that he thought might just fit the bill. He actually showed us two properties and honestly, the first was one we requested and we could have saved some time if we had just trusted the expert because as soon as we saw this house we knew it was the one. It had everything; a well established gated neighborhood, plenty of acreage, a great floor plan with plenty of space for a family vacation home and oh yeah; great elevation at 3648' that provides a spectacular view of the great smoky mountains. It also had what we were not looking for- no small lots with houses looming all around as we had seen in other popular areas not too far away. The house is close enough to jump on the interstate and not have to curve through abundant roads and far enough away to not hear any noise other than sounds of nature.
What's the old cliché? The three most important things in real estate are; Location, Location & Location. That was no exception here. The view from this property is just unbelievable and we fell in love with it the moment we saw it. The house itself had a great layout with lots of potential for a great family vacation home and the property provided plenty of privacy as well. The entrance to Hurricane Ridge is located exactly one mile from exit 15 off Interstate 40, so it provides easy access to Waynesville within 15 minutes and Asheville within 30 minutes but at the same time you can feel like you are so far away from it all. At nearly 3700' in elevation it stays very cool even in the hottest part of summer so it is so much different from most places in the southeastern United States that you may have experienced in the summer.
We had a great stay. The view was the best part- fantastic. The house was lovely (Susan loved your décor) and everything was in working order. We also appreciated the quality of the pots, pans, dishes, etc--it made cooking a pleasure.
We enjoyed our time here so much. The home is beautifully appointed, and the views are amazing.
The cabin was perfect for us and the other family that joined us on a quick weekend trip during fall break. It is secluded with no other cabins in the sight line. The morning fog in the valley is amazing. Mountains on all sides. The road to get up to the cabin is rustic and crude which is just what we wanted! It added to the overall experience. The cabin layout with two master bedrooms and a bunk room for the kids was perfect. Nice big kitchen table and an awesome loft area for gaming. Highly recommended.
Being a flatlander, the initial drive up was daunting and somewhat intimidating. However, after a few ups and downs it became less of a challenge. We were lucky not to meet oncoming traffic in the narrow portions of the road. The home was clean, well equipped, and very comfortable. The views were as described, breathtaking. The setting was quiet and serene, a great place to spend the evenings. We are retired folks and stayed busy every day visiting various places for entertainment and enlightenment. We experienced Segway riding at the Biltmore properties. We all did well too! None of us fell off. From a business standpoint, the owner refunded our security deposit promptly. We tend to be nervous about significant security deposits but in this case all was well. We had a good time in Waynesville. Lots of shops if you like that sort of thing. Overall, the stay was very enjoyable. It is a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of every day life for those looking to get lost for a week or so.
Cabin was very nice, finally a hot tub that's actually hot!!! We loved the furniture and decor of this cabin. Beds are so comfy. Unfortunately rained the entire time we were here and didn't get to see the view once due to thick fog. Oh well what can you do, gives us time to come back then. Only negative thing was toilet downstairs didn't flush unless you took the lid off and do it manually. Housekeeping could have been a little better, no sheets on bunk beds and coffee pot hadn't been cleaned in some time. We however did not let this stop us from enjoying this lovely place.
We enjoyed our stay and felt everything was as described. The owners were very responsive to emails and easily accessible during our stay. The views are spectacular and peaceful We were able to watch the sunset every night while sitting around the fire pit eating s'mores. The children enjoyed playing outside and exploring( be warned though we all got red bugs from spending so much time outside.) The home was clean and well taken care of. I can tell the owners put in a lot of time and energy into the remodel. The loft was a nice area for the kids to watch movies and play games. There is plenty of room for everyone to spread out and find a quiet spot to read or just take in the views. It was remote so make sure you have all your basic groceries and necessities before you go up. The closest store is about 20 minutes away. We would book this home again.
I'm not sure I can put into words how much we enjoyed our stay. We were looking for remote and having much needed family time and it was just perfect. The views can't be captured on camera. The wildlife was wonderful and the house had everything anyone could ask for. The children played pool for hours and we went in one day to linville caverns, waterfall and stopped at toms waterfall which was the best. There was a great hike near the house up to the top of the mountain. The owners could not have been more helpful and kind. Can't wait to get a chance to return.
