3 bedroom / 2 bath w/ loft Family Vacation Home in the Great Smoky Mountains
Our home is located at nearly 3700' in elevation and on over an acre of land in the well established gated community of Hurricane Ridge. We spent over 6 months renovating this entire home from top to bottom, literally. While it is not brand new, this mountain home might as well be. All three floors of this home have been completely gutted and renovated back to the studs and even expanded in some cases. We looked for every opportunity to make this great house even better; including the addition of a third bedroom, additional viewing areas and private deck to the existing downstairs bedroom, an expanded downstairs bathroom to include both a shower and large soaking tub (no jets), all new cabinetry for both kitchen and bathrooms, fixtures, countertops, and new Pella vinyl low E windows throughout the entire home. We added new insulation, electrical, plumbing and a new 15 SEER Maytag heating and cooling system; all to make the entire house as energy efficient as possible. The entire home has been completely furnished by the High Country Furnishings and Design store located in Waynesville, NC. New luxury linens for both bedding and bath are provided for our guest comfort. Egyptian cotton sheets with 600 thread count for both King beds, plush thick towels for the bath. A completely new deck was added to ensure you can enjoy probably the best feature of the house, the view from the outside. The deck wraps the east, south and west sides of the house. For entertainment we have made every effort to meet the needs of all vacationers. Every bedrooms includes a 39 inch wall mounted Toshiba 1080p HDTV and a 49 inch Insignia 1080i HDTV in the loft. Each TV has Directv whole home DVR satellite service. It is never fun to go on vacation to discover they don't have the channels you watch at home and you have to miss that favorite sports event you were planning to watch or special show on HGTV. The Directv service includes over 160 channels, as well as the NFL Ticket for football fans out there.
Our loft is a great viewing and game area with a new double size futon couch, a 4'x8' Connelly tournament pool table with all the accessories, a professional Foosball table and a 49 inch Insignia 1080i HDTV with Directv DVR satellite service. Children games and children DVD's are offered so the little ones have something to watch if you are not in the mood to watch another Disney movie for the 10th time! The loft also has it's own small private deck via an 8' sliding glass door.
On the main floor, the kitchen has been completely remodeled with all new stainless steel Whirlpool appliances, Kraftmaid cabinetry, granite counter tops and new Moen fixtures. We paid great attention to the type of cookware that would be in the kitchen only using cookware we want to use when on vacation. After paying good money to stay in vacation rentals it was awful having to cook with poor quality pots and pans and plastic cooking items. We did our best to buy the most affordable high quality items to help create that perfect dining experience. Enjoy Crate and Barrel dishware, stainless steel cookware , Cuisinart Stainless steel kitchen knives, wine glasses and a new Cuisinart coffee maker to make that perfect brew. While you are cooking in the kitchen family members can pull up a bar stool at the middle island and you can still be in the middle of the fun and enjoy the great mountain view!
The main floor bedroom includes all new furnishings from High Country Furnishings and Design and the large king bed is topped with a luxurious Beautyrest mattress. Also for entertainment the main floor master bedroom includes a wall mounted 39 inch Toshiba 1080p HDTV with Directv DVR satellite service. The main floor bath has been remodeled and includes new tile, new cabinetry with granite counter tops and new Moen fixtures. The main floor living area sits beside two 8' sliding glass doors and a wall of all new Pella windows, all the way to the top of the cathedral ceiling, that provides a spectacular view from every location on the main floor and upper loft. The living room also has all new furnishings from High Country Furnishings and Design, as well as 39 inch Toshiba 1080p HDTV with Directv DVR satellite service. A large rock fireplace includes easy on and off propane gas fire logs for that true mountain ambiance. No need to drag large logs in from the outside when your cozy ambiance is can be started with the flip of a switch. The dinning area includes a new large farm house table with seating for 10. A new large Pella picture window provides a stunning view from the dinning table of Crabtree mountain. The entire main floor is surrounded by a new large deck with spectacular views from every location and four handmade solid wood Troutman rockers to sit, relax and enjoy the true essence of the mountains.
The lower floor includes another master bedroom with decor also from High Country Furnishings and Design. A large king sleigh bed, a Beautyrest mattress and 600 thread count sheets are just the beginning of comfort for this private hideaway. This room also includes its own sitting area with a comfy & cozy beige couch to enjoy the private view of Crabtree mountain through the 8' sliding glass door that opens onto your own private deck with easy access to the 79 inch x 79 inch Leisure Bay hot tub for four. This master suite will definitely fulfill the need for your own private space while vacationing with family, you will love this private spot. Enjoy reading a book on your private deck with no interuptions from guests upstairs and private access to the outside. A 39 inch Toshiba 1080p HDTV with Directv DVR satellite service is in the bedroom for your viewing enjoyment. The downstairs bath has been remodeled and expanded to include a large stand alone shower, a large soaking soaking tub (no jets) and oversized vanity with granite countertops and new Moen fixtures. The adjoining bunk room includes two new bunk beds to accommodate four people and has direct access to the downstairs bath as well. Like all the other bedrooms in the house it also has a 39 inch wall mounted Toshiba 1080p HDTV with Directv DVR satellite service.
Want to roast marshmellows and make smores, add real wood logs to the fire pit and enjoy the night stars?Outside you can have a hearty wood fire in the fire pit...... or relax in the 4 person Leisure Bay hot tub with mountain views from all sides. Hot tub is accessable for all guests from the outside or directly off your private balcony downstairs.

About Jennifer W Tanner
Jennifer and I are native Floridians and live just north of Orlando with our three children; Evie (13), Eston (11) and Ellie (9). After vacationing in western North Carolina for most of my childhood, Jennifer and I were lucky enough to live in Waynesville for several years after we graduated from college and getting marred in 1995. After moving back to Florida in the late 90's we continued to vacation in western North Carolina. In between then and now we decided to enter the vacation rental business here in Florida to allow our family and other families to enjoy the beautiful beaches of Florida. We have really enjoyed running our vacation rental business and had decided early on that we would like to one day expand that business to include a home in the western North Carolina mountains. In the fall of 2012 that vision became a reality with our purchase of this beautiful home near Waynesville, NC. We stay several times a year ourselves as there is no place we would rather be. It was our intention as we rebuilt this home to also use this for our own family just like our other vacation rental properties and for that reason we have tried to make sure that no detail is left out so that we along with you can enjoy this beautiful location. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Every time we are there we ask why are we not living here permanently!

Why Jennifer W Tanner chose Clyde
We searched for many years for just the right property. In 2010 we purchased a vacant lot not to far from Waynesville with the intention of one day building a vacation rental property but it did not take too long for us to realize that due to the rising cost of building materials it would take many more years than we first thought for us to realize our dream. While taking one of our annual vacations in the fall of 2012 with some friends of ours who also like to vacation in the western North Carolina mountains, we met with a friend of theirs, who just happened to be a real estate agent. After spending a few minutes talking about what we were looking for in vacation home, he offered to show us a property that he thought might just fit the bill. He actually showed us two properties and honestly, the first was one we requested and we could have saved some time if we had just trusted the expert because as soon as we saw this house we knew it was the one. It had everything; a well established gated neighborhood with few houses, plenty of acreage, a great floor plan with plenty of space for a family vacation home and oh yeah; great elevation at 3648' that provides a spectacular view of the great smoky mountains. It also had what we were not looking for- no small lots with houses looming all around as we had seen in other popular areas not too far away. The house is close enough to jump on the interstate and not have to curve through abundant roads and far enough away to not hear any noise other than sounds of nature.
What makes this House unique
The view from this property is just unbelievable and we fell in love with it the moment we saw it. Truly every contractor, guest, neighbor, etc. that comes to the house says wow! that is one of the top views they have seen. A friend that lives in Asheville came over and said you just don't find many houses with that kind of view. The other thing that I think that is different from our house compared to some rentals I have seen is the furnishings and the décor. This is not a typical rental home. We could not stand the yellow wood prevalent in so many rentals so every door and trim was double stained, sanded and restained to the exact color we wanted. The furniture is well chosen and the house is nicely decorated. Look at the photos, you can tell a difference. Most every item has been purchased locally to attain the mountain feel with a touch of elegance. The house itself had a great layout with lots of potential for a great family vacation home and the property provided plenty of privacy as well. The deck is so large and roomy, that is the best place to pull up a chair and enjoy your stay. The entrance to Hurricane Ridge is located exactly one mile from exit 15 off Interstate 40, so it provides easy access to Waynesville within 15 minutes and Asheville within 30 minutes but at the same time you can feel like you are so far away from it all. At nearly 3700' in elevation it stays very cool even in the hottest part of summer so it is so much different from most places in the southeastern United States that you may have experienced in the summer. We have air conditioning throughout the house but you will find you may not need to turn it on as we have such cool breezes at this elevation.

Pictures cannot capture the true beauty of the views here, in all directions! We had wanted to get away from the city for vacation and this was the perfect place. Our family spent a lot of time outside, enjoying the views, sitting by the firepit at night and relaxing in the hot tub. Our daughters really enjoyed the loft area, playing pool and foosball. We were able to walk along the serene roads around the cabin, taking in even more views as well as getting a bit of exercise. We spent some time down in Waynesville which has a lovely downtown and we had our picks of hiking trails within a 30 minute drive radius. So many to choose from, all at different levels so something for everyone. Jennifer was a perfect host and very responsive to any questions we had. Oh and the beds were SO comfortable for sleeping. We would absolutely come back again!!
Thank you so much for your descriptive words regarding your family's stay with us. I could not have painted a better picture of what the experience is like if I had said it myself. We are within driving distance to much, but you really get to enjoy the tranquility and unplugged nature of the area when you are at the cabin. While there you can do as much or little as you like!
So glad you liked the mattresses as well, we know that great sleep is a top priority when renting a house for vacation. We made sure to buy excellent quality. We do hope you will come back, we enjoyed having you stay at the house! Jennifer
Spectacular views, well furnished, clean, private.
Thank you Steve, we are so glad you enjoyed. Look forward to having you stay again.
Amazing clean house with great views
Great friendly owners and kid friendly house.
Thank you so much for staying with us. I enjoyed getting to know you and I am so glad your kids liked the loft with games and section of kid friendly movies. The adult size bunk beds are fun too. We look forward to hosting you again!
Perfect Mountain Getaway for the Holidays
We (two couples) spent a week at the cabin over the holidays. We loved the cozy fire and country style interior. With a great game room, comfy beds, lots of pillows, good sized kitchen, great hot water and views to die for it was the perfect holiday getaway. While isolated, it was exactly what we wanted. Loved it.
Thank you for your kind words. We are so glad you stayed with us and hope you will stay again next time you are in town to see your daughter. Take Care-Jennifer
True to the photos - Great View!
As advertised - fantastic views. Perfect place to get away! Sitting on the deck at sunset is priceless.
Good: Fast, easy & friendly lease process. Nice clean furniture. Satellite TV w NFL package! Outdoor fireplace is da bomb. Once you get it doing the configuration just kicks the fire into high gear. (p.s. bring smores). Bring firewood! Kitchen appliances and utensils well stocked. No hidden tricks or fees. Everything in working order. Indoor gas fireplace is nice. Bed in lower master is a wonderful large pillow - nice. The hot tub is nice but the lights don't work. Instructions would have been nice as well. We leave a book in the house for our rental house to explain how everything works. Waynesville is a short trip away. It's an excellent small town that has some nice restaurants. We had 2 excellent dinners in town.
So-So: The road up to the house is 15 minutes of a dusty gravel road. It's bumpy. That and given the house is remote do your grocery (read: alcohol) shopping early - ain't no Domino's coming to this house. Noise carries in this house so be prepared if you have kids staying next to the master suite. The grill has been abused by some guests and was covered with crap. Be prepared to clean it before cooking. The trash situation is kinda messed up. The county trash drop location is closed certain days so if you're leaving on a day that it's closed you have to find someplace else to drop the trash or pay a fee.
Mike- thank you for your review of our property. We are glad that you loved many things about the house and your stay. Just to clarify a few things. Firewood is on site so none needs to be brought. We have a covered area next to the driveway that stores the wood, with wood overflow next to it covered in plastic for our guests use. We have lights on the deck above and on same level of hot tub deck. We don't light up the interior of the hot tub but that is just personal preference. Our road is gravel and we have association fees we pay to keep it maintained on a consistent basis. When you were staying we were in much need of rain so there was dust and dryness as the road cannot be regraveled until a good rain or two has wet the ground. That regraveling and resurfacing fixes any bumps in the road. I apologize for that inconvenience. As far as the grill, we have a large grill brush for our guests to use. I'm sorry you found that it has been used. The grill stays covered after each use and guests do use the grill, but abused is a strong word for something that people have utilized and enjoyed. We also clean it thoroughly when we are there, I will relook and assess when I go back in 3 weeks. I email all my documents for guests to have prior to arrival including our favorite hikes, places to experience nearby and favorite restaurants. I will implement your suggestion to add a book onsite of those documents and instructions for the button to push on the hot tub. I wish the trash could be picked up onsite but when you are high on the mountain ridge there is no trash pickup. In the information I sent you I listed six different options for trash drop off including the one at the end of our neighborhood road. The dates change as to open and closing ( open M-W-F-S) hence I give an option for a facility we pay for our guests to use when those sites are closed. Thank you again for your feedback, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to hosting you again.
Beautiful property just as described with wonderful hosts.
Host made contact right after booking to make sure that both parties were on same page. Which was very refreshing. When we arrived at house everything was just like she had explained. Was a great home that they have done wonderful things with. Had a great weekend and hope we can stay again in the future!!
You just let us know when you want to stay again and we would love to have you back. I always talk to every guest before they stay, we want our guests to love the experience, so yes it is good to make sure what you have in mind is what we are able to offer. Glad you liked that and the home accommodations.
