Our beach cottage stay in Gearhart exceeded our expectations! It was incredibly comfortable, cozy, and endearing! This beautiful home was well stocked with supplies snd a lot of thought and attention to details
The hosts were very helpful and responsive each time we reached out during our stay. This is a cozy spot to stay close to the center of town and a short walk to the beach. We love this town.
The house was great. It was a very lovely space, with plenty of room. The owners were very friendly and responsive. Good location. Well stocked. Lots of nice touches.
Classic older Gearhart Cottage. Location and outside property were perfect. The home had comfortable beds and was well equipped. Only issue is that it’s an older structure with very little sound insulation, but that is part of the delightful charm of a Gearhart Cottage!
We live in Portland and have always vacationed along the Oregon Coast. Whether it was in an RV hitting up all the antique stores, or us kids loading up on old books and reading all the way along hwy 101, the beach has very special memories. I (Claire) have been coming to Gearhart for beach get-aways with friends for years. I never knew we would find this neglected vintage home and have the opportunity for my Dad and I to restore it!
Why they chose this property
Gearhart has been the destination of choice for years and years. Whether for a week long stay or just a cup of coffee and a quick walk before returning to Portland, this has always been a very special place.
We wanted a place where we could be within two blocks of the cafe and quick access to the beach.
When we saw the beautiful dark wood, exposed beams and all of the charm we knew we were done for. Restoring this wonderful 100 year-old vintage home has been a labor of love and we are thrilled with the beautiful result. Oh how we hope you adore it and return year after year!
Tarry was pretty much abandoned with just a few summer visitors each year. So when we purchased her in 2013--we had our hands full just getting everything up to speed. Gutting the kitchen to the studs, installing insulation & new 2' blinds to go with the brand-new windows throughout were just a few of the big projects. This year, we rest. In 2015 the front porch gets a complete overhaul and then the exterior will get it's new paint job--beautiful coastal gray, white trim and dashing red on a new front door.
What makes this property unique
I've always dreamed of a place where family and friends gather, create new memories, rest and get away from the crazy pace of life.
The new windows let the light pour in, the wonderful bedrooms make a bookworm want to read all day, the gleaming original fir floors all reflect it's 100-year old charm.
Enjoy the encased summer porch, the two huge yards, the fire-pit and the perfect proximity to golf courses, McMenamin's pub, the cafe & restaurant. Walk on the beach or further down, drive on the shore. Hunt for whole sand dollars and dream, rest, read, puzzle and connect in this very special home.
Situated on 1/3 of an acre, there is plenty of room for football and the outdoor fire-pit is the piece de resistance after a day at the coast.
