About this property
El Granero Upper Barn at Quixote Farm
You need a rest. See you soon
Since 2022, Quixote Farm has become a beloved getaway for countless guests who have returned time and again to enjoy the farms uniquely restorative effects. Modeled after a European farmstay, guests love walking in the orange groves, visiting with the rescue animals, shopping in the farmshop, enjoying a beautiful breakfast, or taking in our very popular Sunset and Charcuterie experience.
Note: Farmstays are exactly that:
A family farm. Not a 5-star resort.
The space
This is a one bedroom upstairs apartment in a former horse barn.
Access at the top of unsecured stairs, so it is not appropriate for children or infants
Please be aware that it is a shared building space with the downstairs tenant (separate entrance entirely) who may or may not be there while you are staying. If you want to rent the entire barn, you’ll have to also simultaneously rent the Lower Barn listing.
Our ranch is in a very remote agricultural community in an unincorporated area of San Diego near Julian. The barn is located at the end of a short dirt road in the heart of our property near the horses. You may see our farm team working from time to time.
Available June-August
Our family saltwater pool, overlooked by our home, just a short walk away, available by reservation
You can reserve 2 timeslots 11-1 or 1-4 please let us know which one you want. There may or may not be other guests there at the same time.
The upper barn is a 400 square-foot one bedroom one bathroom, apartment with its own kitchenette, balcony and barbecue.
This unit is reserved for two people only maximum. A small non-crawling infant is permitted.
No music is permitted at anytime, and while we will respect your privacy, please remember this is a shared structure with the downstairs tenant( who you may or may not see) and our family does walk around the orchard regularly with our dogs. Since this is a working farm, you may see our workers out and about caring for the orchard.
While we are very nice people and love to serve our guests well. Our guests consistently rate us at five stars because of their experience here.
But please understand: that we are not a 5-star resort, and we will ask you to leave if you treat us, our staff, or our animals with disrespect.
We are welcoming you onto our family property.
We hope that makes sense.
Five stars on is completely different from five stars in a hotel.
Please do not feed our animals.
Guest access
Prior to your arrival, you will be provided a code for your front door
You will have your own access to your upstairs apartment, as well as permission to explore the 15 acre citrus grove and enjoy hiking up into the top of our 150 acre property . We’re always happy to give you a tour.
PLEASE NOTE: we have a strict no filming + photography policy.
The pool is available
June-August and can be reserved during two timeslots 11-1 or 1-4-please let us know which one you want with the understand understanding there could be other guests there during that time.

“You Picks” are hosted usually June-August. While most guests love this, please know that the barn is in the heart of where this happens, so it will not be private or quiet.
Other things to note

You may not film your OF here or take pictures of your who ha here. We believe that demeans you and we want no part of it. Go somewhere else to do that that’s not how we want our farm represented.

Agritourism was created as a means for the farming industry to offset high costs of running a farm, and to showcase a different way of life. This ranch is our livelihood and we are trying to care for our parents and our family here. While we love to serve our guests well, please understand that we are not a five-star resort.
While we are very nice people and love to serve our guests well, please understand our guests consistently rate us at 5 stars because of their experience here.
But please know: we are not a 5-star resort, and we do not claim to be (obviously our pricing does not reflect this, either ) We will ask you to leave if you treat us, our staff, or our animals with disrespect.
We are welcoming you onto our family property.
We hope that makes sense.
5 stars on is completely different from five stars in a hotel.
Our family saltwater pool is available June through August.
11-1 or 1-4 please let us know your preferred timeslot
The ranch is remote . There is nothing to do here, and that’s the point. The farm is ideal for people that want to get away from it all and relax. Some people have booked the property as a base for sightseeing in San Diego-we don’t recommend this. Two-lane Highways can mean traffic slow down no matter what time of day-creating a frustrating long commute.
Since this is an organic farm in the country, you may see the occasional ant or bug, or fly.
We have a lovely new farm shop with a few snacks, ceramics, art and gifts
We are a welcoming ranch.
We are a safe space.
