Comfortable 6BR, 2 Bath Lakefront Retreat with Panoramic Views, Prime Location
The Gale Cottage
What makes this Cottage unique
The Gale Cottage (1897) is believed to be Wright's first residential work in board-and-batten siding. Its woodsy simplicity foreshadowed other recreation structures Wright designed after the turn of the century. The Oak Park Vindicator, July 2, 1897, called Mr. Gale's cottage as being built 'in the happiest style'. One of the 3 nearby rental cottages, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built for Mrs. Gale, is located next door.

Perfect White Lake Retreat!
This home was bright and clean and extremely well stocked with towels and supplies for a great week by the lake. The beds were comfy and there were amply fans and window AC to cool as needed. The lower swing set area was very flooded out to the bonfire due to heavy seasonal rains when we went but we had a great time none the less! The owner plans to fix this issue as well. Our dog loved just living on the deck watching the day go by!
Awesome Labor Day Weekend
We have nothing but positive things to say about our lovely long weekend at The Gale Cottage! After reading the reviews and perusing the pictures, we were very much looking forward to our visit, but it exceeded or expectations.
The house itself is so historic, quaint, charming and cozy. That alone made it unique from many other cabins or cottages we've stayed at before. It didn't even matter too terribly much that the weather could've been a little bit better. Just after our arrival a big storm blew in, and it was fun to watch it move across the lake from the cozy comfort of the house. We had fun just watching our beloved Detroit sports teams and resting and relaxing. There were plenty of bedrooms for our group, and the well-stocked kitchen and bathrooms were appreciated by all.
Of course the best part of a Summer weekend in Pure Michigan was enjoying being out on the water, and we had an absolute blast! Thanks for recommending Sally and Jon, they were great to work with. We loved exploring the lake by pontoon and tubing too. We also had fun kayaking. One thing that really sets White Lake apart is its proximity to Lake Michigan, so we had the bonus of being able to check out the beach, dunes and lighthouse.
It was hard to want to leave the house, but when we needed anything, the towns of Whitehall and Montague were close and convenient. The shops cute were fun to peruse, and we had a couple delicious meals at some of the restaurants.
The only criticism we have was the 10:00 AM checkout time. It was tough getting our whole gang packed up in that small morning window. And, to be honest, we we were a bit melancholy to have to be leaving!
Thanks so much for a memorable Holiday!
THANK YOU Ellery's! What a lovely picture you paint of our special place here in the Mitten! <3 Happy to share with you any time!

Your ideal summer cottage
White and bright and light. Your ideal summer cottage. The charming decor, the beautiful trees, the wonderful lake.
Awe! Thank you for coming to experience it!
Great times at gale cottage!
Thank you Laura! We aim to please! <3
Nice Quiet Time
Had a really great time with the family. Place was clean and it was neat to stay in a historical building. Seems like a lot of little things you would normally want to bring were already there. LuAnn was very helpful and nice lady and I'd definitely stay here again. Nothing really better than the sunset by the lake having a fire with close family. Beautiful!
Thank you Jason!
