About Edwin Ashurst

I am a licensed Realtor working in the Atlanta area. We have always had a affinity for the mountains of NE Georgia. I worked in Cherokee and in Highlands during summer vacations and always wanted to own a retreat in the mountains and now we do. It's a pleasure to share this special place with you. Email me if you would like to see a copy of the rental agreement before you book your stay.

Edwin Ashurst purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Edwin Ashurst chose Tiger

We found the house that sits above this home about an acre away and fell in love with it and bought it nearly 10 years ago. When the builder's ex-wife chose to sell her smaller cabin and move on we jumped at the opportunity to increase our land and add this beautiful little cabin as a place for our friends and family to stay.

What makes this cabin unique

This home is the definition of cozy and, in this case, it's not just a euphemism for small. There are large comfortable sofas, skylights in the living and dining area, a wood stove that will heat the entire home and lots of peace and quiet. It's a perfect place for that Romantic retreat, or a place to park yourself and work on that novel, or to sit in quiet contemplation or use as a base of operations for the many outdoor activities available in the area.

Your vehicle could possibly use higher clearance than your average sedan. Cross over SUV's and trucks are perfect. You may not want to drive your Porsche but many guests with Toyota Corollas have made the journey with absolutely no issue. The driveway is rustic hard pack rock and dirt and can be bumpy but we attempt to regularly take steps to keep the road smooth and easily passable. You do not need 4 wheel drive except when there is a chance of snow and ice.

Great cabin.

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is in great shape. I drove my Camry in and out with no problem. We really enjoyed the cabin. Very nice cabin for the price. Can't wait to get back!

Very beautiful cabin in a relaxing setting

  • 5 of 5

The owners were fantastic, friendly and helpful. The cabin was very clean and beautifully decorated. We did all of our grocery shopping at the local Walmart, about a five-minute drive away, but you'd never know it because you're surrounded by nature and feel totally secluded here. I would absolutely recommend this as a place to stay if you're looking for a relaxing retreat with all the comforts and beauty of a cabin in the mountains.

Good rental for the $, but needs upkeep

  • 3 of 5

To Good - This cabin suited our trip as we spent most of our time out and about, rather than on the property. Beds were comfortable, linens were clean, interior construction looked relatively new, shower was hot and had good pressure, fridge was cold, a/c worked. Check-in/Check-out was a breeze. The owner is responsive and was available if we needed anything. Good access to surrounding actives. Everything is within a 10-30 minute drive.

The Bad - The cabin could have used a good cleaning as there were cobwebs on almost everything including lamps, curtains, TVs, bookcases, etc. The oven needed a good cleaning as well so we abandoned plans of cooking and ate out instead. There was no blind over the front door, so when night fell, the feeling of security was lacking a bit. We hung a blanket over the door to solve this problem. I know this place is in the woods but some pre-stay upkeep/cleaning would have been appreciated. The hot tub/deck area was littered with spiders and webs making it pretty much unusable. The fire pit was tucked away in a corner of the driveway, near the woods and on a hill with no where to really sit, so we couldn't enjoy that amenity either. Feels like some of the items, including the grill, are on the property just so they can be listed as amenities on websites like Homeaway, making the property more desirable/rentable.

Overall upkeep was the issue. If the surrounding woods were tended to, cutting some brush back and minor trimming of low hanging tree branches, keeping some of the insects away, the fire pit and hot tub would have been usable making the trip much more enjoyable.

On a final note, the renter mentions a sedan could make it to the house, but vehicles with higher clearance are recommended. We drove a 1500 truck and it wasn't the easiest driveway to navigate, likely due to some recent rainfall, but if you tried to make it in a sedan the same weekend we had booked, you would have ruined your vehicle or not have been able to make it to/from the cabin.
