Why Rachel Neidich-Rook chose Georgia

We love Lookout Mountain and Menton. It is one of the most unique geographical areas in the south east. Our family are avid outdoor enthusiasts and we love the outdoor activities available in this area. There are great hiking, biking, and hunting activities right out the back door of the house.

What makes this house unique

We're right in the middle of it all! And guess what? it's a great price... heck, just because there's wallpaper in two of the bathrooms (still a work in progress) we will offer our house at a competitive price you can't pass up!

Great Price

  • 4 of 5

This cabin was not fancy but it met our needs as a family. You cannot beat the price of this place for a vacation. I think it is in a great location if you are looking for things to do. It is about 25 min from Cloudland Canyon State Park (Which I highly recommend) and about 20 min from Desoto State Park. There are only two bedrooms in the house and the upstairs single beds are not the most comfortable in the world. There is a futon in the loft, but you have to walk through the loft to get to the bedroom upstairs. Not much privacy in you need to use the loft as a extra sleeping area. It met our needs as a family and was a great getaway.

Our first visit to the mountains of Georgia

  • 3 of 5

What a beautiful area of the country! We stayed 3 nights and hiked, saw sights, and visited local towns. Our daughter toured Berry College in Rome, GA. The Pocket was one of the best hikes ever! Wildflowers blooming like crazy around a rocky stream bed with a waterfall at the end. Cloundland Canyon State Park was well worth the 30 minute drive, as was the view from Lookout Mountain in Mentone. Lots of pretty waterfalls and mountain views. We enjoyed being able to have a camp fire at the end of the day.

The house was in a good location, very clean, and has a nice layout. The furniture could use some upgrading though. The beds have no box springs, just a thick foam pad over plywood or planks - very low to the ground and not the most comfortable. Same for the living room. Furniture was functional but not comfortable.

The kitchen was adequate - the stovetop is quirky and took awhile to get lit. More silverware would have been nice. We had to wash it after every meal to have enough for the next one. It was nice to grill out and eat on the screened porch.

Be aware - there is no cell service or wifi for many miles! The internet cafe in Mentone was closed. We had to go to Summerville to McDonalds to download some important papers. This means you will not be able to rely on GPS either, so get/take some maps.

Overall a good place to "get away from it all"!

Owner's Response: Sorry about the beds they are Tempur-Pedic an organic memory foam. We like a firm sleep. And if I'm not correct there's enough silverware there for 8 I will look into that. I'm glad you got out to see the sights. Please come back and visit again

Nice place to check out...

  • 4 of 5

Great cabin! My only suggestions might be to actually have TV service, as the multiple dishes on the house were misleading, and perhaps to add an outside hot tub. We had a great stay, cooked our meals and warmed by the fire. We shall return!

Great location to get away from it all!

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed the house -- the giant king sized bed was super comfortable and the jet tub was very relaxing. (We did miss having a land line phone and not being able to watch television though...) We loved exploring in Mentone, Ala., as well as a great dinner at Canyon Grill. Very convenient to beautiful Cloudland Canyon and a beautiful drive to get there. Thanks!
