Faubourg Marigny Apartment Rental Photos and Description

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom With Queen Sized Sofa Bed

Hermanor Cottage was built in the 1830's and is a fine example of New Orleans Creole architecture. A beautiful, spacious front porch added in the early 1900's is both a welcoming feature and a wonderful place to sit with a cool drink and watch the quaint neighborhood go by. The location of Hermanor Cottage is both convenient and a bit off the beaten path. We are a few short blocks from the superb music, food and fun on FRENCHMEN STREET and only slightly further from the world-renowned FRENCH QUARTER. If you choose to arrive by car there is adequate parking on the street. The bus is right out front and cabs are readily available.

Our cottage apartment is professionally decorated in the traditional New Orleans style with original art and vintage pieces. The living room is charming and comfortable with a queen sized sofa bed and a 40' HD TV. The front room is furnished with a vintage oak table that can serve as a desk or a dining spot for up to 6 people. The fully furnished ,spacious kitchen has been recently renovated and has all new SS appliances. A round table seats 2 and a decorative fireplace add lots of quaint charm. Pick up some groceries at the nearby co-op and easily prepare a dinner at home. Several times a week MR. OKRA drives his colorful truck through the neighborhood offering fresh fruits and vegetables. His lilting song alerts all to his arrival!

our unique Marigny (pronounced Mare-i-nee) neighborhood has much to offer. Some of our favorite places are MIMI'S IN THE MARIGNY for great, live music, SCHIRO'S for take-out food and CAKE CAFE for fabulous breakfasts. All are just a block or two from the cottage. Several venues for live music are close by on the newly developed ST. CLAUDE corridor and include ALLWAYS LOUNGE, CAFE ISTANBUL, and SIBERIA.

My husband is a concierge and tour reservationist. We live right next door and are always available for fun, creative activity suggestions, restaurant recommendations and general hospitality. We guarantee a good time will be had by all at Hermanor Cottage!

About Sara Hauge

My husband and I have been visiting New Orleans for over 20 years. This year we were finally able to fulfill our dream of moving here permanently from Minneapolis. We love the weather and the diversity of the colorful culture. We purchased a double shotgun cottage so we can share our love of this city with family ,friends and you!

Sara Hauge purchased this apartment in 2013

Why Sara Hauge chose Marigny-Bywater

We finally chose to live in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood because it is so interesting and eclectic and yet close to the French Quarter and the Frenchmen St. excitement.

What makes this apartment unique

Our cottage is unique because it has so many years of history that have not been erased by modern renovations. It is comfortable to modern standards yet maintains it's historic beauty and authenticity.

Charming and quaint Shotgun home

  • 5 of 5

I loved this quaint shotgun in Marigny! It was exactly what I pictured and wanted for my stay in New Orleans. I went to New Orleans for a nursing conference the beginning of the week, towards the end, my husband and mother-in-law met me. The home was spacious enough for the three of us. Very comfortable. We enjoyed the front porch and back yard and everything was furnished well and quite comfortable. I hardly needed to "Uber" anywhere. The location was excellent! It was a 10 min walk to the French Market street car and from there you can take that to the conference center as well as transfer to other street cars to take you all over New Orleans. I enjoyed the coffee house, Who Dat Coffee, which was a 2-3 min walk from the house. There is a co-op grocery market a couple of blocks away as well. It was a great location and safe area to walk from and to. Love this place and hopefully will stay there again in the near future.

Nicely decorated. Comfortable. Great back yard and front porch.

  • 5 of 5

Sara was available for questions and help. The place was perfectly located and very well appointed. The full sized bed could have been a bit nicer but really no complaints. It is a fantastic place in a great neighborhood.

The Perfect Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

I hardly know where to start to say how wonderful this rental is! It's in the prefect location, has a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, large beautifully landscaped courtyard and front porch, lots of storage space (if you stay awhile like we did), big fluffy towels, ... the list goes on and on! Sara is the most gracious of hostesses and was quick to reply to our needs or questions. We've visited New Orleans for many years and stayed at other properties, but I hope for the many years to come we can always stay at Hermanor Cottage. Book it! You will never have one regret! (Oh, and did I mention Lulu? You'll fall in love with Sara's sweet little dog! )

  • 5 of 5

This property is a historical cottage, that is comfortable, clean, beautifully decorated and appointed. It's location is walking distance to all of the sights one usually wants to visit when in New Orleans. The owners were helpful in recommendations for our stay. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone.

Lovely comfortable home

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely home. From the minute we arrived to a warm welcome by Sara, we felt right at home. The location was perfect for exploring both the Marigny and the Quarter. We were able to walk everywhere... Frenchman street, the Bywater, the French Quarter and we were right around the corner from the new St. Roch market and co-op. We are in our mid 60's and never needed a cab. The house itself has everything you could want, plenty of fluffy towels, great linens, fully stocked kitchen and the most beautiful courtyard. Every where you look there is a unique piece of art or furniture, the decor is flawless. It felt like our own home in Nola. Thank you Sara and Tom for sharing your lovely home!

Terrific stay; terrific hosts

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely a great place to stay. My wife and I are veteran travelers and used other VRBO's before, and we put this rental at the top of our experiences. Sara and Tom were exceptional hosts. From the many emails to being there to greet us to suggesting restaurants and helping us book tours, they did more than one could expect to make our visit special. They are both gracious and warm people who we wished we could have spent more time with. The unit was awesome. It was clean, beautifully maintained and decorated, giving a wonderful feel for NOLA. There is plenty of space for two people, with a cosy bedroom and three large rooms that include a full kitchen. There is a lovely, quiet enclosed patio out back as well. We did not rent a car, so we did have to walk a number of blocks to get public transportation. The upside of that is we felt like we were living in NOLA and were outside the noise and hubbub of the touristy French Quarter. We would highly recommend staying here and would definitely stay again. Our thanks to Sara and Tom for making our visit a memorable one.

Car: not necessary

The Faubourg Marigny is a quaint, historic neighborhood just adjacent to the French Quarter. Once named the hippest neighborhood in the US by Travel and Leisure magazine the neighborhood is at once bohemian and traditional. Many unique privately owned bars and restaurants abound. Walkability is fabulous and the people are friendly. The historic nature of the area is a treasure to those interested in the architecture of the last 200 or so years.
