This 2 bedroom 1 bath cottage is located on one of Bedford's most beautiful and well known country roads, Fancy Farm Road. There are 3 houses within sight but not close enough to impede privacy as this cottage is located past a huge old lovely dairy barn, that is part of the property, and down a long gravel driveway - surrounded by woods and pasture.
If you enjoy sitting on the deck, overlooking the Blue Ridge mountains, watching the wildlife, listening to the birds, then our cottage may be just right for you. Additionally, we have 3 goats named Moonlight, Chipmunk and Monkey, as well as chickens that when laying, may just provide you with farm fresh eggs! We have 3 outdoor cats, who are our farm mousers, and may visit you on the back porch when you're there.
Our cottage is fully furnished and sleeps 4 people very comfortably. Bedroom 1 has a queen sized bed. Bedroom 2 has a full and in necessary, a twin trundle bed. The bathroom is located off Bedroom 1.
Kitchen amenities include a full sized refrigerator and electric range, dishes, pots and pans, silverware, small appliances, including a microwave and coffee pot. A washer/dryer is also included.
The living room has comfortable seating and a tv with digital antenna that offers 20 channels, DVD player and beautiful barn views. Unlimited wifi is available. Redbox is available at the Food Lion 5 minutes away and in addition, we have a varied supply of DVDs from which to choose.
Fresh bed linens and towels are also provided. The kitchen is stocked with dishes, pots/pans, coffee pot, toaster, and many of the conveniences of home.
The front porch has rocking chairs for enjoying that morning cup of coffee and the back deck has tables and chairs that overlook the Blue Ridge Mountains. This old cottage is located on what was once a thriving dairy farm and has been updated with central heat and air. It's possible that cows may be grazing in the fenced pasture behind the house.
Enjoy photography or taking great pictures? There's an old dairy barn on the property that would make an amazing backdrop for some wonderful family portraits!
The Peaks of Otter and beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains are 15 mins away where you can enjoy hiking or dining at the Lodge. A short 10 minute drive will take you into the historical town of Bedford, where there are retail establishments, such as Walmart, Food Lion, etc.
Bedford is the home to the National D-Day Memorial. Really great restaurants, such as Olde Liberty Station, Town Kitchen, Azul Mexican, and Bedford Social Club are among a few of the great restaurants within a 10 minute drive. There are also popular chains such as Ruby Tuesday, Applebees, Subway, McDonald's, and Wendy's.
Smith Mountain Lake and the SML State Park is a 30 minute drive where you can enjoy swimming, fishing and even bring your own boat for a day on the water. Lynchburg is 25 minutes away and Roanoke is only 45 minutes away.
Located along the banks of the James River, Lynchburg offers a variety of attractions including Thomas Jefferson's retreat called Poplar Forest, a revitalized downtown with fantastic restaurants and a variety of shops, along with a bustling Community Market on the weekends. Additionally, recreation offers tubing on the James River; biking and walking on the James River Heritage Trail; Amazement Square Museum for kids; the Old City Cemetery and Museum that is a Virginia Historic Landmark; and Liberty Mountain Snowflex Center Year for year round skiing, snowboarding and tubing, just to name a few.
Lynchburg is known for 3 colleges - Liberty University,
Randolph College, and Lynchburg College. Sweet Briar College is not far away in nearby Amherst County.
Whether you're a couple looking to get away from it all, or parents of 2 children looking to retreat to the mountains and stay on a farm for the weekend, we think you'll enjoy your stay at our cottage.
Please know that we are a smoke free property - both inside of the cottage and anywhere on the property. Additionally, we do not allow hunting or shooting (skeet, target, etc.) of any kind on our property.
Thank you for your consideration!
We are transplants from the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. We have fallen in love with the people and the beauty of Bedford. We have so enjoyed this property and love sharing its beauty with others.

Breath-taking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains! Peacefulness and tranquility. Time to relax and renew! The cottage is convenient to shopping and local attractions, yet far enough away to maintain privacy.
Enjoy painting, photography or taking great pictures? There's an old dairy barn on the property that would make an amazing backdrop for some wonderful still life or family portraits!
Gail supplied us with everything a person could need. ( and a nice basket with Champagne to celebrate our anniversary- quite thoughtful!) The House is clean as a pin and the view is wonderful. Close to town and outdoor activities. My wife and I stayed at the cottage for two nights. We had a great time and felt at home. The cottage is neat and well taken care of. This location offers privacy, views, and access to some nice restaurants. Do check out the Millstone Tea Room if you can! All of this for the price of a mediocre hotel room. Quite a deal!
We stayed in Gail’s cottage for 2 nights. It was perfect. She’s a lovely host and the cottage was the cleanest place I’ve ever stayed at through Airbnb and HomeAway. The property it’s on is beautiful with views of the blue ridge mountains, farm animals, and an old barn. Gail even dropped off a dozen fresh eggs.
My parents, husband, and I stayed here for two nights. The cottage is comfy and cozy-- very nice with comfy beds and a fully equipped kitchen which we used to fix breakfast in the mornings. The view off the back deck is gorgeous, and there's an enclosed area for sitting with your coffee on a cool morning. The cottage is also adjacent to some very cute goats! And the Bedford area has some really cool historic things to do. We went to the D-Day memorial, but had we had more time we would have checked out the Booker T. Washington memorial and Poplar Forest, one of Jefferson's homes.
NOTE: The cottage has one bathroom and two bedrooms. To reach the one bathroom, you must walk through one of the bedrooms. The property listing says this, but I booked in a hurry and did not realize it. It worked fine for us as family, but it is worth noting if you are traveling with someone with whom you are less comfortable.
This is a very nice, clean, well-furnished, fully-supplied and tastefully-decorated vacation rental. It was a perfect place for my husband and me to get away for a few days this fall. We enjoyed the quiet farm setting, as well as the short drives to the places we wanted to visit on our trip. The furniture was more than adequate and comfortable. The goats nearby and the large-screen TV made my husband feel right at home, while I enjoyed the comfortable sofa for reading and relaxing. We would have loved to stay much longer if my husband hadn't needed to get back to work. This was my favorite rental property. The only improvement I can think of would be to add a half bath. With a bath and a half, this property would be ideal for 4-6 people. If you book here, you won't regret it!
The views were breathtaking!!! Morning coffee even with fog and drizzle made for a perfect start of my day...loved the adorable antics of the goats and chickens. Gail the owner has don an amazing job with the upkeep of this property and thought of everythinhg.... this is a home away homerun!
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our five-night stay at Fancy Farm. The setting is absolutely fantastic - quite, peaceful, restful, and a beautiful view from the back deck, but close enough to town that you're not wasting time if you have to drive into town for something. The cottage is equipped with all you need to enjoy your time away. Having never been anywhere close to this area of the country before this was a great place to use as a base for our day trips and the exploring we did over our time there. Sitting on the deck after dark and viewing the stars was just breathtaking. The Milky Way stretched from horizon to horizon. If we are ever in this area again we would absolutely consider this as the first place to stay.
