I've never written a bad review before, and wouldn't be doing so here if the hosts had ever responded to my inquiries to them about the issue with the house: mice. First the good: the house is great in a great location. The redwoods are beautiful - 100 foot redwoods all around the house. BBQ worked great. Nice areas to sit inside and out. The property is very cool with some faded grandeur aspects (like the in-ground bar that was built next to the pool - really cool still, probably incredible when it was maintained). The problem was mice. On the second night of the stay, we were playing cards and saw a mouse pop up on the stove. Someone jumped up and it ran behind the refrigerator. Then later that night, a mouse (or mice) popped up from behind the stove 3 more times, including after we thought we blocked off the area they were coming from. After seeing this, we found mice droppings on the counter each of the next couple of mornings of our stay. It turns out they provide sticky mice traps in the house, but none of us wanted to become the exterminator.Even with this, I wouldn't be giving a bad review but after messaging them several times about the mice, I received stock responses asking me to contact them if there were a reason they wouldn't be receiving a 5 star review. It was odd. I've waited until the 4th full day after our stay ended to see if there would be any contact from the hosts and still nothing. I'll include pictures of the messages if I can.

Hi John, thank you for the kind words about the house, the towering redwoods, and the outdoor spaces — and for the fair way you shared your concerns. On communication: while we are experienced hosts on other platforms, we had only just opened on Vrbo, and due to a platform technical issue our management tool was never linked to Vrbo before your stay — your messages never reached us, and only pre-set scheduled messages went out. We are sincerely sorry we did not discover this sooner. We have since fully reconnected our communication tools, and every guest message is now monitored and flows to us correctly, so nothing will be missed again. Living deep in a redwood forest means constant wildlife pressure, but managing it is our job — a professional pest service has since treated the home and sealed the entry points around the kitchen. This is not the experience we aim to deliver, and we'd welcome the chance to host you again and show you the stay we're truly known for.
