About Malin Bengtsson

I'm an artist who loves creating, cooking, gardening, and spending time outdoors.

Love keeps me settled in the highest town (10,200' of elevation) in the Rocky Mountains for now but the dream is to return to amazing Rockland in the future. I am working on my South African husband to agree to winters in Colorado and summers in Maine!

I grew up in Massachusetts and our family spent many summers on a small island in the Penobscot Bay which actively developed my strong connections to the wonders of Maine.

Our family has always loved the rugged beauty of Maine and her down to earth inhabitants. After graduating from Maine College of Art in Portland Maine I began visiting friends and family in the Mid-Coast region and fell in love.

I am drawn to the landscape, the people, the food, art, and culture of Rockland and the surrounding area and I hope you will love it too.

Malin Bengtsson purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Malin Bengtsson chose Rockland

The Perch, located in desirable South Rockland, has the perfect blend of indoor and outdoor space. In addition to providing a wonderful spot for relaxing, The Perch is also an ideal launching pad for all kinds of adventures up and down Maine's Mid Coast.

What makes this cottage unique

Here are a few of the things that make The Perch special.

Starting the day off with a short walk down the street to Sandy Beach...it is magical to breath in the salt air, hear the waves lapping or crashing on the shore...sunshine, fog, or rain it is always beautiful.

I love sitting on the deck in the morning and quietly enjoying my morning coffee.

The kitchen is a dream for those who enjoy cooking and entertaining.

The house is colorful and light with creative decor.

Unforgettable Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Our week at The Perch was everything we hoped for and more. First, we fell in love with Rockland - I've been coming to Maine my whole life but consider this area one of the best. The working harbor is beautiful, the shops and restaurants are incredible, and there are so many wonderful places within a short drive (Owl's Head State Park and Bald Mountain were two of our favorites!).

The Perch itself was a great place to stay. The home was clean, convenient (short walk to both the beach and downtown) and very private. The kitchen is as advertised, big and bright with every pot, pan and utensil one could ask for. We had plenty of towels and sheets, and the washer and dryer were a great plus! The bedrooms were very cozy and comfortable, though you want to take Malin's warning about the stairs to the second floor seriously as they are quite steep. The claw foot bathtub can also be challenging for an older (or shorter) person.

Our favorite "room" was the deck off the kitchen and the backyard. We spent a lot of time hanging out there to read or enjoy a later afternoon cocktail. There was plenty of seating and lots of privacy.

Thank you Malin for sharing your wonderful home - we'll definitely be back!

great location and kitchen made this a good spot

  • 3 of 5

I arrived at the perch saturday maybe a few minutes early, the cleaner was still there and mentioned that the toilet was leaking. She called the next store neighbor handyman who arrived in a few hours and fixed it..pretty major repair to the floor flange and wax ring. That was great! Another issue came when i went to use the grill.. No gas. The code to the shed would not unlock the padlock. The stairs to the second floor are ladder like very steep thank god I was solo on this trip.

On the positive side. Lovely yard. The kitchen was modern, clean, and well stocked. the bedding was extremely comfortable. The location on a quiet side street near the harbor park is perfect with great walking in the area. The Fish Market was amazing..oh my!!! Shower pressure was great but the clawfoot tub very difficult for me (agile 65) to get in and out of. It was great to have a washer dryer on hand and there were plenty of towels. When advertised to have fans..there mist have been 8 different fans here making it easy to vent out midday heat..there were a couple of days 85+. All in all a well stocked comfortable spot in a quiet neighborhood. The toilet and propane issues need to be mentioned though

Wonderful place

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year, and it was perfectly set up, as usual. We love the tasteful furnishing and equipment, the convenient location for walking to town and the harbor, and the comfortable beds. We picked vegetables from the garden and even did a little weeding and watering. It's so much more comfortable that a hotel. Highly recommend it for a couple or families.

Quaint and well equipped cottage that made us feel right at home.

  • 5 of 5

We loved the location of the perch. Biking into town and walking were some of our favorite things to do. We went to the local markets for a true home town experience. The property had everything we needed to enjoy our week long journey. We enjoyed sitting in the back yard with the well maintained garden. It was a great stay and hope to travel back soon.

Thank you for sharing your cottage with us.

Everything you could ask for!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay at The Perch! It was everything as described and more! It was hard to decide which was more beautiful the inside or the outside gardens! I was amazed at the detailed information Malin provided through emails, the VRBO site and at the house. The house was immaculate! There were fresh flowers in the kitchen and dining room. There were games, movies, books, maps, take-out menus, guides..... There were even two beach bags prepared with towels ready to take to the beach!! The beds were very comfortable. Thank goodness there were fans in each upstairs bedroom, because it did get hot, which cooled down the rooms. There were great breezes when we opened up the windows. Sitting on the back deck was so relaxing. It was the perfect location to get downtown, to the beach and even around to other areas of Maine. A lot of thought has gone in to providing people with every little thing they could want/need for a home away from home. Thank you Malin for sharing your home with us!
