About Malin Bengtsson
I'm an artist who loves creating, cooking, gardening, and spending time outdoors. Love keeps me settled in the highest town (10,200' of elevation) in the Rocky Mountains for now but the dream is to return to amazing Rockland in the future. I am working on my South African husband to agree to winters in Colorado and summers in Maine! I grew up in Massachusetts and our family spent many summers on a small island in the Penobscot Bay which actively developed my strong connections to the wonders of Maine. Our family has always loved the rugged beauty of Maine and her down to earth inhabitants. After graduating from Maine College of Art in Portland Maine I began visiting friends and family in the Mid-Coast region and fell in love. I am drawn to the landscape, the people, the food, art, and culture of Rockland and the surrounding area and I hope you will love it too.
Malin Bengtsson purchased this Cottage in 2008
Why Malin Bengtsson chose Rockland
The Perch, located in desirable South Rockland, has the perfect blend of indoor and outdoor space. In addition to providing a wonderful spot for relaxing, The Perch is also an ideal launching pad for all kinds of adventures up and down Maine's Mid Coast.
What makes this Cottage unique
Here are a few of the things that make The Perch special. Starting the day off with a short walk down the street to Sandy Beach...it is magical to breath in the salt air, hear the waves lapping or crashing on the shore...sunshine, fog, or rain it is always beautiful. I love sitting on the deck in the morning and quietly enjoying my morning coffee. The kitchen is a dream for those who enjoy cooking and entertaining. The house is light and colorful with creative decor.

The Perch in Rockland, Maine
Loved our stay at the Perch! Everything we needed was there to make the stay perfect. Malin even had beach chairs waiting upon our arrival. Lovely location which was close to everything. Had a wonderful stay visiting points of interest in and close to Rockland. Would recommend this delightful house to anyone!
My husband and I stayed at the Perch over the past week and we had one of the best vacations in a very long time!
We were able to easily walk to Rockland Center to enjoy the great galleries, shops, restaurants, a film at the Strand Theatre, museums and lovely waterfront. It's also a short drive to Camden, Belfast, Owls Head, and we had one of the best lobster rolls and crab cakes ever at McLoons Lobster Shack in South Thomaston. Lots of things to do and see!
The house is just as Malin described - well equipped and very comfortable with many extras that made it feel like a home away from home! She was a great host!
Perfect coastal getaway
This is a lovely coastal home. The owner has provided everything one needs to enjoy time in a new city. You aware in a walkable neighborhood. The harbor, stores and restaurant all invite you to visit.
We loved the Perch! Bright and cheerful even on rainy days. Well stocked kitchen, etc. and comfortable places to sit and sleep. Walking distance to downtown. Loved the little gas stove for taking the chill off the morning. Pretty flowers in the yard in a nice generally quiet neighborhood.
Owner was very responsive to our questions. We’ll be back next spring!
My husband and I spent a month at The Perch. We were charmed by the cozy cottage from the first day. Malin is the perfect host. There were fresh-cut flowers and a jar of blueberry conserve (I ate every bite) waiting for us on the table in the kitchen! And the kitchen is delightful; warm and so well equipped. The queen bed down stairs is very comfortable. There were plenty of linens and supplies.
This spring in Rockland was late in coming and on many cool nights, we really enjoyed the gas heater in the living room. Being located in Rockland was perfect for us. After exploring Rockland, we made trips to other towns and of course, Acadia (twice). We particularly appreciated the Maine atlas and all the suggestions that Malin thoughtfullly gave us (the farmer market, the Free Press, Jess's Market and restaurants).
Malin describes the house and the location perfectly on the website, so there were no unpleasant surprises.
We would come back.
Super clean and comfortable
This was a great house for our family needs. Marin was so accommodating with our dates and the needs of our small children. When we checked in there was a cot already set up in the bedroom downstairs and a baby gate on the stairs. While the house wasn’t officially “baby proofed,” it was easy to navigate and keep an eye on everyone, and it was stocked with absolutely everything we needed. We will definitely be back!
Rockland is bustling with activity in the summer! Explore around town, drive up the coast to nearby towns like Rockport, Camden, and Belfast, or take a ferry from Rockland Harbor to day trip to Vinalhaven, North Haven, or Matinicus islands in the Penobscot Bay. Some guests have even taken a day trip or night away up at Acadia National Park!
After a day of relaxation or adventures walk down to Jess's Market to buy fresh caught seafood to prepare back at The Perch or treat yourself to a night out on the town. There are lots of amazing restaurants in the area.
