Overview

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 8

The Beech House gets its name from the large beech tree by the cottage - plus you will find 'BEACH' here. Silver Lake is an amazing place to vacation - endless fun, activities galore, and the incredible Silver Lake Sand Dunes and Lake Michigan beaches to explore. This property has been in our family for 40 years and this is our fourth year renting this property.

This cottage has a large great room, open to the kitchen and to a large deck. The deck has a view of Hunter's Creek and a peaceful wooded lot. There are steps/decking down to the dock - bring your pole and cast a line. The creek has direct access to Silver Lake, suitable for smaller boats, kayaks, canoes and wave runners. During your stay you also have use of the association pool, playground and picnic area just down our street.

There are 3 bedrooms, equipped with a queen size bed in two of them and full size bed in the third. We also have a futon sleeper in the great room. The bathroom has a tub/shower combo. The great room is very open and perfect for socializing (6 persons at the table, 4 seats at the bar and more on the deck at the picnic table). The kitchen is fully equipped with stove, fridge, microwave, coffee maker. toaster - the works! We aim to please the 'foodie' in you!

To make your stay more relaxing, we have loaded the book case with beach reads and books for the kids. There is also a toy bin and plenty of board games. We have cable TV, Xbox console/games and wireless internet.

Outside there is a BBQ grill, deck furniture and fire pit. We have a long driveway that can accommodate your trailer with all the 'toys' and additional parking spots along the road.

This location is within walking distance to everything - you can be close to all the fun, but enjoy privacy & quiet. The kids can ride their bikes safely on our cul-de-sac street. Just a short walk away are go-karts/arcade, bumper cars/boats, miniature golf at Craig's Cruisers, shopping at Dunetown Mall, Ice Cream, restaurants, any type of water craft rental at the Wave Club, Jeep/Quad/Buggy rentals. Or, hop on your bike or lace up your running shoes and cruise the paved pedestrian path around the entire lake. A ride out to the tallest lighthouse on Lake Michigan, Little Sable Point, to catch an evening sunset is a must-do on your vacation bucket list. The Lighthouse is open for tours during summer weekends.

Come for the fun - return for generations!

About Tammy Carey

Hi! Tammy & Sean Carey have been renting cottages at Silver Lake for 20 years. The Beech House was passed down through the family, recently coming into our ownership.

We pride ourselves on having very clean and well maintained/equipped properties. We live and work in the area and are available immediately for any maintenance issue or questions. Our past renters have become our friends, coming back year after year. This is our second year of renting this cottage.

Why Tammy Carey chose West Central

This was Sean's family cottage dating back to 1973. They completed a beautiful addition 10 years or so ago (adding a great room, expanded deck & decking to the creek). We also did quite a few updates to the cottage. Sean and Tammy also met right here in 1984! Tammy's parents own a cottage down the street. Our 4 boys have grown up on this street visiting their grandparents on both sides, playing in the pool & playground, riding their bikes, boating, fishing in the channel and all sorts of shenanigans . We have so many fond memories on this street. We know you will make great family memories here too.

What makes this cottage unique

Great room with fully equipped kitchen

Quiet street, no traffic

Walk to everything - near downtown

Room for vehicles & trailer

Old School Up North

  • 4 of 5

The property was close to town in a nice quiet neighborhood. The interior is dated but clean and in good repair. The river is just down a little hill with a stairway access and is beautiful.

The bedrooms are small but adequate. We did not use the kitchen (beyond the fridge and coffee pot) but it appears to be well stocked with dishes/glasses etc. This is certainly a better alternative to getting a hotel room if are travelling with more than 2 people and plan to be in town for more than 2 nights.

Not impressed

  • 1 of 5

Parking was rough for 2 big trucks with 22ft trailers. Needs trees moved by the end of the driveway. Make front yard parking. Not mowed or weeds cut sucked to walk in. No ceiling fans or ac in bedrooms, was by far the worst part. Please get it together and provide these items because we will not be back.

Owner's Response: I would agree - 2 big trucks and (2) 22 ft trailers are tough to accommodate. We encourage all of our guests to let us know their parking needs to make sure we can fit everyone's vehicles & toys. Today's Silver Lake Sand Dunes vacationers are bringing more/bigger vehicles and trailers, so it can be a challenge. We did add another parking spot by our garage this year and expanded our parking by the road. We are also now subject to township restrictions on parking. We also have to be sure that no one parks on our septic system. We have box fans for every bedroom, but ceiling fans are a good idea (there is one in our great room). We will look into that! We do not advertise this property as having AC. We will be adding a decked walkway from the driveway to the front door off our large deck next week. We mow & weed-wack between guests. Sometimes rain storms hamper our efforts. Since most of our property is wooded, it has been nice to finally try to grow some grass in our patch of yard.
