About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Our charmingly furnished house with traditional Hawaiiana decor provides all the comforts of home in the world's most spectacular setting on Kauai, the 'Garden Island' of Hawaii. You will seldom need your car after arriving as charming Hanalei village is within walking distance with its excellent restaurants, lively night spots and shopping. Only a block and a half away is the world famous, crescent-shaped Hanalei Bay, ranked by National Geographic Traveler as one of the top ten beaches in the world.

Hanalei can only be reached over a series of quaint one-way bridges and is never overwhelmed by tourists. It is the home of many celebrities and famous writers and is noted for its amazing scenery and lush vegetation.

House is limited to four. We have a Cal King bed in one bedroom and a king in the other which can be divided into extra long twin beds for an additional charge of 100.00.

Be sure to visit our own website by clicking on the link below where you can take a great virtual tour, see more pictures, and find our 800 number.

Will consider stays of less than one week between gaps of six days or less. We accept reservations ten months in advance.

About Clark Carlton

In addition to my work as a writer, I am the manager/owner of several beautiful vacation rentals in Kauai, Los Angeles and Palm Springs, California.

Clark Carlton purchased this house in 2000

Why Clark Carlton chose Hanalei

Hale Lu Ya is in Hanalei on the lush North Shore of Kauai, one of the world's most beautiful settings. The owners bought this house because of its proximity to town as well as the Crescent Beach, ranked one of the world's best beaches by National Geographic Traveler.

Lovely treehouse in paradise

  • 5 of 5

This home was perfect for us - 2 adults and one child. It has a lovely authentic feel. The owners were staying in their house next door at the time, they were friendly. The property is very quiet, there is zero traffic noise. It is true you are near other houses but during our stay we did not hear any particular noise from them. All we heard was the birdsong and rainfall, incredibly relaxing. In the bedroom on the upper floor you feel like you are in a treehouse. The bed was comfortable, towels are plush. The kitchen is well stocked and very easy to work with. The agent and housekeeper were very responsive. The house is small but that was fine for us. Beautiful view out back of fields and mountains. Hanalei is a paradise location, and this house is just a couple of minutes from the centre of the beach, and about 5-10 mins walk from the shops. Perfection.

Wonderful little home, close to beach and town

  • 5 of 5

My family (including myself, my husband, my adult sister, and my one-year-old son) stayed at this property in May 2016 and overall were incredibly pleased. The home is fairly simple, but is cute, clean, well equipped, and in a fantastic location! For the price, you really can't beat the home's proximity to both Hanalei Bay and Hanalei town -- very easy and convenient to walk to both. The house is a nice size for a group of four; everyone in our party had sufficient space and felt very comfortable. An extra bonus, the home is well equipped with kids' stuff (pack-n-play, booster seat, beach toys), which we appreciated. The management and housekeeper were both responsive and great to work with. The only potential downside to be aware of is that there is another house right next door (on the same property and under the same management) and sound travels (you can hear everything and vice versa). This wasn't a big problem for us, but I imagine it could be an issue if there was a rowdy group next door. Overall, this is a great little home. We'd come back in a heartbeat. Book it - you won't be disappointed!!

Hale Lu YA! Celebrate, YES!

  • 4 of 5

The house name is perfect, and we three gals loved it as a week long place in February for girlfriends from the Pacific NW to warm up, play, rest, read, cook, walk, dance, enjoy life.....great little beach town, great beach house! We probably will return! The hard choice is when and who to invite along next trip.....

Awesome 2br house in perfect location

  • 5 of 5

This was our third trip to Kauai, and we were not disappointed with our accommodations at all. You never really know right? You hope it's a nice place.....but Hale Lu ya really is a perfect VRBO for a small family. We have two young kids, so they were able to share one bedroom and we took the other. The kitchen is very well stocked, but not too cluttered, which I found was an issue with other rentals. Sheets, towels and beach towels were all top notch. Like pretty much the same if not better quality then we have at home. Location is at the end of a street, so it's very quiet and secluded, but a short walk will get you to the beach and the town of hanalei. We used the outdoor shower each day, and were able to do out own laundry, cook most of our meals and there were beach toys and other things for the kids to play with while at the beach. Overall, we loved this house. We will rent again for them for sure. The owners really take good care of the place and it shows.

The perfect house on Kauai

  • 5 of 5

Aloha! The house Hale Lu Ya in Hanalei Bay is the perfect place for a Kauai vacation. The house is so cosy and comfotable that we immediately felt like being home. It was perfect for 2 couples with plenty of room. The beautiful beach is only a few meters away and you are in a perfect location for trips over the island or the famous Kalalau Trail. Everything was perfect and we will be back. Mahalo!

Not the quiet house with Waterfall views as reviews stated

  • 3 of 5

According to the previous reviews, this house is quiet and has views of the waterfall out the windows. Not the case. The "sister" house of this was booked with multiple families and babies. We could hear all conversations and baby cries throughout the night. I wouldn't stay here if the Taj Ma Hale is rented as it feels like a duplex. There is no parking for this house either, you must park on the street so be sure not to have valuables in car.

1. No views.

2. Not quiet.

Our two reasons for staying here.

Owner's Response: Dianne, thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to share your experience. As you mentioned, some of our guests have indeed posted glowing reviews on VRBO mentioning a quiet home with mountain and waterfall views. Please understand that we are unable to alter the content of the reviews that have been posted on VRBO in any way. We have never promoted views as one of the amenities of Hale Lu Ya on our own website or on our VRBO listing. Waterfalls are sometimes visible from the house and lanai, and most of our guests are delighted with the tropical garden surrounding the house. However, plants grow very quickly in Hanalei, and the neighboring landscaping has obscured some of the views of the mountains and waterfalls that may have been visible previously. The views from the windows pictured on our listing and website accurately depict what a guest might see. As for the noise you experienced, we wish we had been told about this during your stay so that we could have communicated your concerns to the neighbors. We strictly limit the number of guests in both houses and remind all our guests to keep noise to a minimum out of respect for our neighbors. The homes in Hanalei are within close proximity to one another. Most visitors appreciate the neighborhood feel of Hanalei and understand that there are often families visiting with children. Fortunately, folks generally make an effort to respect their neighbors' enjoyment so complaints such as yours are infrequent.
