Gorgeous home, so close to the beach!

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I brought our families to Hanalei for our annual vacation. It was our first time to Hanalei, and we were thrilled with everything from the town to Taj Ma Hale. The house is beautiful—We loved the retro Hawaiian decor! It's hard for us to find a place that will house both families (ten in total) but Taj Ma Hale fit us all and never felt cramped. The town is walking distance, which was wonderful, and had just about everything we needed. There's also a Big Save grocery store a couple minutes away for anything else on our list. The best part was the gorgeous beach, which was just down the street from us! The view of the mountains is pretty impressive too. We had a little rain on a few days, but we also had some rainbows and waterfalls that we saw on the mountains from Crescent Beach. We usually try to go somewhere different each year, but we agreed that we'll be returning to Hanalei soon. Thanks again!

Great family home close to beach and town!

  • 5 of 5

The house easily met the needs of ten people of threee generations. It is in a quiet neighborhood, walking distance from the beach and town. The two king suites do have some openings to the main area and the house is older, so sound travels. Do not expect to outsleep the first one up. The kitchen was surprisingly large, there are three charming areas to eat, and no one in our party was ready to leave. It’s extremely well equipped and Clark is great to deal with.

Love Taj Ma Hale

  • 5 of 5

If you’re looking for a quiet place to stay that’s close to the beach and Hanalei town, this is the place! You feel like a local in Hanalei, without that “big resort” feel.

The house had everything we needed, especially the kitchen that was incredibly well stocked with everything we needed to make most of our meals at home.

It always takes a day or two to get used to the roosters in Kauai, so we used a white noise sound app on my iPhone, and that really helped.

This was our second visit to the Taj Ma Hale and we’ll definitely come back.

INCREDIBLE!! What a life changing home

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for our multi-generational family. The young ones stayed on one side and the adults used 2 of the master rooms on the other side of the house. Plenty of spaces to escape from the family when needed, like the downstairs screened area, which I used for yoga. There is also a set of weights and a bench to use in that room. I didn’t use them, but I thought about it. The only thing I did not like is that the owners do not provide shampoo. There is plenty of liquid soap though. Quick walk to the beach and town. Quiet area. It did rain when we were there, but it was almost magical, and reminded me that otherwise it wouldn't be so lush. Out door showers felt downright luxurious to wash off sand and salt water before going back inside. You can hear the roosters crowing in the morning—I think they add to the experience of the island, my husband not so much! The beach in Hanalei is pristine—If you want to go searching for shells, there are other options. The waves were perfect, and we loved that it was such a quick walk to get back to the house after a long day of playing in the water. Coming back soon.

Owner's Response: Andrea, thank you very much. We look forward to your return! It's not practical for us to offer supplies like shampoo or body wash as we get guests that stay at least a week or as long as a month. It's one of the differences between a vacation rental as opposed to a hotel in that we can't supply a daily cleaning service or supplies other than some hand soap and t.p. for your arrival.

Ideal vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

Our group of ten adults had plenty of space including restrooms! Three generations of our family enjoy traveling together and Grandma has spoiled us with her top notch rentals through the years. This house is comfortable, has a well stocked kitchen, two washers and dryers, good quality beds, bedding, linens and furnishings. It has a lot of stairs so keep that in mind. Also a short easy walk to the beach! We loved it and will try to stay there again.

Bottom line; the house is fantastic. I have been a contractor for 28 years,

primarily working on high-end custom homes so I have seen a few. The home is not ostentatious, it offers a calming, warm and inviting understated elegance.

I see the two larger bedrooms as master bedrooms in that they are larger, each having its own bathroom, the upper bedroom having a separate sitting or reading room with two walls of windows offering views of the greenly lush yard and mountains. There is a separate dining area with repeated views of the mountains and surrounding lush back and side yards and a rear patio deck with views of the same. Our family found the rear deck to be an especially tranquil and beautiful place to be. The center of the home holds the ample kitchen and large living room, which leads to the three other bedrooms.

There are enclosed and open patios on the street level, the enclosed one is sizeable and of course there is a laundry room. The house has snorkeling gear, some kiddie beach toys for the tots and several smaller Boogie Boards.

I have only been to The Hawaiian Islands twice. Both times it was Hanalei Bay and both times we stayed at The Taj Ma Hale; I have no desire to see any other islands or stay anywhere else than “The Taj.” Kauai has all I need from “touristy” things to do down to the restaurants and markets within walking distance of the house.

The beach is an even shorter walk from the home.

Without detailing the main sight-seeing spots on Kauai, If you don’t take the helicopter tour in a helicopter with the doors off, you have not lived. You will see the most notable sights on the island in one hour and see things you cannot see any way else. It was probably the most amazing and moving thing I have ever done in my life. Do it.

The only bummer was that the owner can't offer bikes due to liability issues and as spacious as it is, it only sleeps ten. Also, the government of Kauai protects those noisy roosters! We stayed there twice, hope to do so again.

Owner's Response: Thanks very much, TW. Looking forward to having you back again. It's true we can't offer bicycles because of liability issues but they can be rented right up the road in the village along with surfboards etc. - C.C.

Hanalei Bay, ranked one of the top ten beaches in the world, is a great place for walking, jogging, swimming, surfing and boogey boarding. Snorkeling at Tunnels Beach is a short drive away. Our deck is a great place for bird watching.
