Gingerbread House-Less than a mile from Paia town and all North Shore beaches

Sleeps3

Space 495 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 1 - 7 nights

Overview

About the property

Adorable one bedroom house, less than a mile from Paia town.

This unique and romantic two story, one bedroom house is nestled in a mango tree. The house is an A-frame structure with high ceilings and skylights making it bright and airy. It is located less than a mile from the bohemian town of Paia and all North Shore beaches. The closest beach access is Tavares Beach, about a 5 minute walk away.

(PLEASE SEE BELOW IF YOU ARE MAKING A ONE NIGHT STAY REQUEST!)

The second floor bedroom has a queen size bed with French doors that open up to the private lanai. The main floor has a living area with a full size futon/couch, a full kitchen and a marble tile bathroom with a jetted tub and shower combination. You can see just a small sliver of ocean from the second floor lanai, but we do not call it an ocean view. There is a patio just outside the house, with an outdoor grill, outdoor shower to remove the sand from your day at the beach and your own private parking area.

If you have a larger group, our Green Turtle House is on the same property and can be rented as a ONE or TWO bedroom house. Please see listing: VRBO #720946

We are a certified vacation rental permit #2017/0001.

We normally do NOT accept a one night stay request. For guests requesting a ONE NIGHT STAY please make sure that your request meets the following criteria:

We accept a one night stay, far in advance, if it butts up to another reservation or if it fills in an open night between two existing reservations. We will, also, accept a one night stay if it is closer to the date and we feel that the house will sit empty.

If your reservation is for a week or more, we, sometimes, offer a 10% discount off your stay except during the Christmas holiday and New Year's. This discount is only valid at the time of your original booking and cannot be requested once the booking is accepted and confirmed. Please ask about the discount when sending your booking request.

About Poni

Aloha, It would be a pleasure to host you at one of our Spyglass Maui Rentals and share the "Aloha" of the island with you. We have two units: the Gingerbread House and The Green Turtle House. Both houses sit on the same property, in the middle of all the North Shore beaches, a little less than a mile from Paia town. Poni, the owner, is a musician, singer-song writer, surfer, home owner, and lover of nature. Sabrina, our on sight manager, is your contact for reservation requests and when you get to Maui. We hope that you enjoy your stay with us! Mahalo.

Notes:
The futon, on the first floor, pulls out for sleeping. It can accommodate 1 adult or 2 children. Please note that when it is open, it takes up all of the floor space in that area. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: Our houses are in a tropical environment, near sugar cane fields, where permanent, Maui residents live. If this is your first time visiting Hawaii, please know that insects and geckos may find their way into the house. They are a part of island living and we have learned to coexist with them, especially since they are not dangerous and are much more afraid of us than we should be of them. We strive to keep our houses very clean but this does not mean that the houses will be insect free. Like other rentals in this neighborhood and unlike the huge resorts, time share properties and hotels in the tourist areas that get heavy doses of pesticides, have closed windows with central air conditioning, we use limited amounts of minimum impact, natural insecticides.

Wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Gingerbread House. It is so cozy and immaculately maintained. All of the available beach stuff (chairs, boogy boards, snorkeling gear) was much appreciated. Coffee on the upper deck with the view of the ocean is a great way to start the day, listening to all the birds and soaking in the relaxing environment. Paia is such a quaint little town with so many good places to eat and shop. We would love to return!

The Gingerbread House has much to admire, but......

  • 4 of 5

First, the pros:

It is attractively built and furnished, and also has a covered outdoor seating area with table and chairs.

It is well equipped with fixtures (stove, microwave, refrigerator, easy access to washer and drier, TV, outdoor grill), utensils (kitchenware, laundry soap, bath soap), and wifi.

It is very conveniently located, just off the Hana Highway (Rt. 36), about a mile east of Paia town. Kahului airport is only about ten minutes away.

It is quiet and private, in spite of the fact that the highway is close by and the fact that there are several nearby houses. These are shielded by greenery and/or fences.

All in all, a very nice place to stay, and I recommend it.

The cons:

The only bed is located in the loft, up a short flight of rather steep stairs. As there is no bathroom in the loft, the house is probably unsuitable for a loft-sleeper who has to use the bathroom during the night. There is a sofa-futon on the first floor. One of us slept there and the other in the loft.

The bathroom was a challenge for the two of us - very fit and fairly fit 75 year-olds. One walks down into the bathroom over several steps. These are of shiny black tile, with no demarcation on the edges of each step. One needs to pay attention. In addition, one has to step down a rather long way into the spacious tub-shower. Getting out, when everything was wet was a challenge. And, since the tub-shower is not enclosed, the black tile floor becomes slick from condensation and dangerously slippery. None of this may bother folks more used to such an arrangement, but we found it perilous.

So, given the absence of a bathroom in the main sleeping area and the limitations of the bathroom itself, we would not stay there again. However, if you are prepared to deal with these issues, I would recommend the Gingerbread House.

Wonderful place for 2 nights

A quiet peaceful base for a few days. Very nice, clean small cottage with a great 2nd floor bedroom. Enjoyed coffee on the balcony. Great opportunity to see the area around Paia.

From Foddor's-"Best American Small Towns", June 2014 issue: PAIA, HAWAII

Population: 2,668

It can be difficult to find remnants of authentic

Hawaii behind the multitude of resorts, but this is

one of the last holdouts. Located on Maui's northern

coast just off Highway 36, Paia was founded as a

sugarcane enclave and though the sugar mill closed

in 2000, the town is as alive as ever. Boutiques featuring

everything from high-end fashion to beachwear line the

streets, and with some of the world's best windsurfing

spots in the area, you're sure to find an opportunity

to put your new gear to good use. Because it sits along

the route to Hana, the town is pleasantly devoid of major

resorts and offers a great stopping-off place

for a few hours or a few days.
