A beautiful rustic cabin nestled on an acre of untouched pristine lake front property on Wilson Lake near Acton, ME.
Piney Fields has three bedrooms, one bath, full kitchen. Sleeps 6 comfortably.
Wood stove, picnic table, everything you could ask for in a rustic lakeside getaway.
We also own the camp next door (Twin Oaks) and are willing to rent both to a large group for a special rate!
This property was purchased in 1936 when it was first laid out on pastureland. 4 generations of family have enjoyed this property since that time.
Joanna Hunter purchased this cabin in 1936
The 1936 purchaser lived in Sanford his entire life, working in the Sanford Mills until they closed in the 1950's. He built the original cottage which is the current living/dining room and lake facing porch. His only son became the next owner, and added the current 3 bedrooms and the kitchen. The property is presently managed by one of his sons and granddaughters, and we hope to maintain it in good condition for many years to come.
As a vacation location, it is ideal. 2 hour drive to Boston, an hour drive to the seacoast at Wells, York, or Portland, 2 hour drive to the White Mountains of New Hampshire. An easy day trip to Acadia National Park. The best fishing on the lake is right off our dock. Enjoy the calling of the Loons at night, the cool, breezy nights, and misty mornings.
while being very rustic, this place definitely has all the comforts of home. We enjoyed visiting friends, hitting some of the local restaurants and a few short hikes. Bring your own toys for the water. It's very shallow off the dock so great for kids. Water is very clear. The neighborhood folks are very friendly and welcoming. One of the best sunset views on the lake -just bring a couple chairs to the dock and enjoy!
A few helpful notes for future visitors. Very well stocked with spices, and pots/pans, dishes etc. there is no blender. There is a washing machine and no dryer but plenty of clothesline strung and clothespins. Water shoes are recommended for the water. It's a bit rocky and our teens thought it was slimy. Also wifi and cable though we didn't turn the tv on once.
It was neat to stay in a place with such obvious family history. The owners were very pleasant and helpful as well. We would absolutely rent again!
Pros: Pictures are not deceiving. The lake is beautiful, and the the road this cabin is on has many other properties that are very active. Children, BBQ's, dogs, people... plenty of neighborhood activity. Everybody seemed friendly. We brought our dog with us, and she had the best time. The cabin has a very workable kitchen, small but useful bathroom (with great shower pressure!) and 3 rooms that can sleep 6 comfortably, assuming two people don't mind a bunk bed! The backyard has plenty of space, including a large picnic table and a charcoal BBQ that can easily entertain the whole family. This cabin is located about an hour from many amazing places, such as Kennebunkport and Portland. My Fiance and I went twice to Kennebunkport, which we highly recommend! Very cool beach town, lots of restaurants, shops, etc. And dogs welcome on the beach after 5pm!
Cons: The inside of the cabin could use a living room upgrade to include a couple couches which would allow better "hanging and relaxing by the tv" ability. The cabin is certainly functional, but not comfortable to hang in for too long. The space is there, and really just a larger TV and two medium size couches would eliminate the discomfort of the cabin completely. The only other thing to mention is that there's a large slope from the backyard area to the water. You'll have to walk down steps and bring a chair onto the dock (which can fit 2 beach chairs comfortably) in order to really hang lake side. The water is shallow by the dock, so you can walk into the water once you're down there, and swim further out if you'd like. But the cabin doesn't have "beach front" access to the water... nor does the listing suggest that it does. If you're looking to spend a lot of time by the water, you may find yourself google searching. TIP FOR OWNER: cut down those backyard trees! The lake is so beautiful and the view would be spectacular if you got rid of only a handful of those huge obstructive trees! :-)
Overall: highly recommended for an active trip where you're out and about, and where you do not rely on the cabin itself for anything other than basic functional purposes and backyard BBQ.
