About Vickie Guthmann

I could write a wonderful Love Story about Lake Lure that started when I was a teenager, and attended Camp Lurecrest (a Christian Camp at the opposite end of the Lake)....Think Dirty Dancing Camp..but take out the Dirty! LoL My husband, Rich became a Lake Lure Fan after we were married. Our family has spent many summers on Lake Lure creating a life time of wonderful memories, trail hiking, kum-bah-yah campfires, and more mosquito bites than I could count.

Vickie Guthmann purchased this house in 2005

Why Vickie Guthmann chose Blue Ridge Mountains

For years, we dreamed about a vacation home in the area. In 2005, all of our ideas came together: We found a View Extraordinaire, the sound of a nearby waterfall, could not be a cliff hanger (too high), not right on the big lake, must have flat land somewhere (for 8 Grandgirls to explore) and have lots of fun things to do. We finally bought a VIEW with an interesting little red cabin on the property in a Resort community.

My husband is a General Contractor/Builder/& Certified Remodeler in Charlotte for 25+ yrs. Did I mention that the little red house was a Hexagon? Oh Yeah! The day we found the house, Rich said, 'I feel certain that I can fix this house, but I could never create a view like this.' We spent few years enjoying and deciding just what and how we would remodel the house, fondly referred to as 'our Rubik Cube.' Each year we welcomed another Grandchild. After 8 Grandgirls...our plans enlarged. In 2012, we began the daunting task of doing a major Addition/Renovation of the entire home.

What makes this house unique

The Whole House Renovation took almost 12 months. We are honored that the NARI (National Association of Remodeling Industry) awarded our Home Project, the COTY Award for Best Whole House Renovation in 2013! And then just recently in April 2014, the Home Builders Association awarded our home, a 1st place Gold Award for Best Whole House Renovation again. Yoohoo!

We so enjoy our home away, and love sharing it with our friends and family. It is True: A house is made of Sticks and Bricks....but a home is made from love!

We think you will sense that too.

One of our best family vacations.

  • 5 of 5

Perfect for our family of 6 adults and 4 children under 6. We used all of the 6 bedrooms and the children loved the space to play, watch movies, the swings, sandbox, firepit for smores, etc. It was well equipped for children with booster seats and pack and play. The adults really enjoyed the golf carts, paddle boards, floats, and TV's plus the music throughout the house. Clean, very modern, and beautiful. Would definitely do this again.

Even better in peson

  • 5 of 5

My extended family and I rented Vickie's place for a little reunion this past weekend. I can happily say the consensus was the place was great. It definitely accommodated our large group comfortably. The house was well stocked with dishes, towels, some basic kitchen supplies, games, movies, etc. I loved how everything was labeled so we could find everything easily. It was about a 30 min drive to Chimney Rock, Flowering Bridge, etc but only a 3 min drive to the lake and golf and other amenities within Rumbling Bald. Our group loved the use of the paddleboards and other beach equipment and the kids LOVED making s'mores outside by the firepit. The house was clean, very comfortable and very well equipped (we were happy to see pack n plays - multiple- high chairs, etc for the littles!). Vickie was easy to work with and very communicative. I think the only downfall was the phone reception (very spotty all over the mountain) and at times, the wifi went in and out (which may have been a result of so many devices we had using it!). I would definitely return if I had a big group. The views were amazing and we definitely had a reunion to remember.

Yearly Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We take our children and grandchildren on a "Family Vacation" every year. The house was beautiful. It had plenty of room for the 12 of us. The grandkids loved the playroom downstairs. The owner was very helpful. If we had a question we were able to call her and speak to her. We loved the area. Plenty of things for the family to do. We would definitely go back.

Great Family Vacation Home!

  • 4 of 5

Extended family spent a week here in the mountains and had a wonderful stay. Home was roomy, well stocked and the 2 dishwashers were a definite plus -- our family loves to cook and we appreciated having the extra dishwasher. Loved the fire pit and plenty of seating for all; the porch had 2 tables for outside dining and space for game nights - just a super week overall!!

Wonderful place to come and spend a great time with family and friends!!! Loved it!!!

  • 5 of 5

One of the greatest experience we've had as a family!!! This house is perfect for a getaway. Great for all ages. We were a group of 15 people and never felt as if we were so many with all the things to do at this place (kids playing outside or in the game room, adults just enjoying good company and the great view from the tarrace). And then there's also all the things to do outside the property. Chimney Rock and the Biltmore Estates are a must!! There's also the horseback riding and ziplining which were lots of fun as well.

If I had to say something bad about this place, and I believe everyone would agree, is that it seems time goes by way too fast!!! That's what happens when you're enjoying something so much!!!

One last thing is the owners... Such a pleasure to deal with! They are on top of everything. Very organized and always trying to accommodate their guests so they can enjoy their stay.

Look no more!!! This is were you want to come!!!

Great place for a semi-large family

  • 5 of 5

This is an outstanding home for us with extended family of 18 (6 grandkids under age 5) to gather for Christmas. The home is immaculate, enough game space and games for those of all ages, large kitchen, open living area, and just the right number of bedrooms (we have 5 kids, all married). Nothing bad to say, only good to say.
