Why Hali'i Kai:

The 1500AD lava flow from Mauna Loa volcano, named Kaniku, covered 31 miles of land right up to the ocean. Hawaiian tradition states Kaniku was a guardian spirit of a fish pond that once existed here. The Big Island spirit is very much alive. Hali'i Kai means 'spreading out to the sea' and when you see this beautiful community, you'll know why. Located on the sunny Kohala coastline of Hawaii, and only 16 miles from Kona International Airport, lies the world renowned Waikoloa Beach Resort. This immaculately landscaped resort offers guests an abundance of amenities including luxury golf courses, two world class resort/spas - Hilton & Marriott, fine dining, shopping, specialized boutiques, grocery stores and a host of water recreation. Hali'i Kai has received rave reviews and is rated by TripAdvisor as the number one community on the Big Island of Hawaii. It is only 4 minutes to the Hilton Waikoloa Hotel and it's many amenities. It also offers easy access to a variety of island adventures such as Whale Watching (in season), helicopter tours to the active volcano, deep sea fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, boat tours, golf and a special chance to swim with the Dolphins. You can also visit a Kona coffee plantation, experience Hilo's rain forests and the world's largest observatory. These are just a few of the many activities you can explore when you enjoy an unforgettable luxury vacation experience.

The gated community of Hali'i Kai, "The Jewel" of the Big Island real estate some would say, is where we call home and lies within the heart of Waikoloa Beach Resort, right on the ocean. On this sun drenched part of the Kohola Coast (6 inches of rainfall annually), the elements have come together naturally to create a place like no other. This luxury developments perched on a bed of lava rock overlooking the coast. This beautifully stunning complex boasts many amenities such as tennis court, basketball court, BBQ area and it's pride and joy being the licensed private club for the exclusive use of owners and guests, known as the Hali'i Kai Ocean Club. Your sanctuary and playground is surrounded by fragrant blossoms & ocean breezes. A superb multiple-level lagoon style swimming pool, waterfalls, aqua loungers and a children's wadding area. The exercise room with 180 degree ocean views, overlooks the waves hitting the rocks. Then enjoy the hot tub after your work out. The poolside Bar & Grill, serves some of the best food you will find on the island. There is a BBQ & eating area inside the club grounds offering spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, Mauna Kea, the signature hole of the local golf course and of course, the rugged lava fields for which the Big Island is renowned.

The resort fee is $10 per day (paid directly to Hali'i Kai Mgmt)

Guestbook comments from the manager

This vacation rental was the best! Very clean, quiet and well organized.

The owners have thought of everything (we brought some things, but they were already provided)!! The owners were very helpful and provide lots of information before you go so you feel well informed when you arrive.

The condo is located on the bottom floor, corner suite making for good privacy and lots of out door views. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet escape or families wishing to enjoy the west side of the Big Island.

Thanks again!!

spectacular (7/21-7/31/2014)

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely Spectacular!

Our family of 4 spent 10 nights at Hali’I Kai (7E) and enjoyed every minute. This was our first time booking a condo through a travel website and we were at first hesitant. However, the owners were super responsive and took the time to answer all our questions which made us feel very comfortable booking the condo, we are so glad we did. The owners are very respectful and easy to work with throughout and provided all the necessary instructions at the right time along the way.

The condo was easy to find (~25 min North of Kona International Airport) located within Waikoloa Village. The grounds and facilities of the village and Hali’I Kai are spectacular and provide the necessary amenities (Restaurants, food market and shopping) if you choose not to venture. We drove into Kona several times to shop and eat (our favorites being Umeke’s and Huggo’s on the Rocks). There are several beaches nearby that we went to frequently, this included but was not limited to; Anaehoomalu Bay (about 5 min from the condo near the Lava Lava Beach Club), Hapuna Beach (one of our favorites about 15min from the condo) and Mahaiula Bay (down a bumpy road at Kekaha Kai State Park.but well worth it). There is also a lagoon within walking distance of the condo you can swim at.

Everything advertised about the condo was as stated (and more), very well kept, clean and is situated in a perfect location to obtain an ocean view and postcard like sunsets. We so enjoyed sitting on the back patio every evening watching the sunsets. The owners have really outdone themselves furnishing the condo, providing all the comforts of home as well as the things needed to enjoy the beaches (coolers, beach towels, beach chairs, sun shades and even boogie boards). The kitchen is top quality and supplied with the tools one would need. The bedrooms are very quiet and peaceful, the beds and sheets are super comfortable. The food and service at the Hali’I Kai Beach Club (the pool area) is really good, everyone we met was so nice and easy to talk to. We made great friends with other guests and built life long memories. Helpfulness

5 star review from another rental site. 2013

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful vacation in this spectacular Hali'i Kai condo. The home was beautifully decorated, very clean (important to me because I am a neat freak), comfy beds and had everything we needed to cook meals. We were a family of 5 and had plenty of room in this spacious condo. Every morning we enjoyed coffee on the the lanai with ocean and golf course views. The pool area was second to none and we enjoyed drinks and dinner there several times (sunsets are awesome).

The villa was very private and quiet, yet we were minutes from great restaurants (Lava,Lava), shopping and the beach (beach chairs & cooler provided). We will certainly be back again to enjoy this beautiful Hawaiian home!

The place to stay on the big island

  • 5 of 5

This place is amazing. When you walk in you feel right at home, with the wonderful furnishings and space. The 3 bedrooms are great. The kitchen is fantastic and well stocked with everything you need to make breakfast, lunch and dinner. The private clubhouse is the perfect spot for a morning workout, or a calm relaxing day by the pool. It even has a fully licensed restaurant and bar, with fantastic employees. Surrounded by beaches, I would suggest heading over to A'bay, having a drink at Lava Lava and watching the sunset. All in All a fantastic place to rent. I wish I could give it 6 stars.

Peaceful and Secluded, yet Close to Everything

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully furnished with lots of extras provided. room to spread out for our college aged boys. The private club and fitness room are wonderful. We took advantage of the nice beach chairs, towels, and coolers provided for our daily trips to beaches. Try beach 69 near Hapuna beach for great sun, shade, and snorkeling. Convenient to shopping, groceries, and everything else. Take the shoreline path for a great morning walk. We really could not have asked for anything was all provided.

There are a number of interesting stores at both the King’s and Queen’s shops which are a 1 min drive from Hali’i Kai or a 15 min walk. Turn right outside the main gate and the Kings shops are on the left, just past the waterfalls/lagoon and the Queens shops are kitty corner on the right. There is a terrific hole-in-the-wall” Fish & Chip shop (if you like that kind of thing..) on the lagoon side of the Kings shops. The fish is very fresh and costs about $10 for 3 pieces of fish with fries. You will find excellent clothes bargains in Macy’s.

IF you leave Waikoloa Beach Resort and turn left onto the highway you will find the Manu Lani shops about 1.5 miles to the north. Turn left at the Manu Lani sign and you will find the shops at the first roundabout.

The Hilton Hotel, across the golf course, is a fabulous 5 star hotel that can be utilized for your pleasure. It is open to the public to walk around and to enjoy some of the facilities. i.e. bars, restaurants, coffee shops and water activities and a buffet breakfast bar. There is also a spa and a hairdresser on site. The Hilton can be accessed by taking the lava path by the Hali’I Kai club house and around the perimeter of the golf course, or you can take the short cut over the lava rock, to the left of our Lanai (slightly left of the large palm tree on the left) over the golf course and into the hotel (watch for flying golf balls!!!)
