Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 1 - 2 nights

Overview

About the property

680 sq. ft., 2-story separate structure on waterfront property with Puget Sound

680 sq. ft., 2-story separate structure on waterfront property, with sweeping Puget Sound and Mt. Rainier views. Beach access (down stairs/trail). The Loft has a queen bed plus a narrower (25' wide) daybed for child or small adult upstairs. Kitchenette, wood stove with wood provided. Barbecue, beach fire pit. Cozy, rural, quiet and comfortable!

The bathroom, eating space, kitchenette and wood stove are on the main floor and the sleeping area is upstairs in the loft. There is space to sleep at the beach in a tent in the summer. You can bring your own blow up mattress to put on the main floor if more sleeping space is desired ($25/person, including children, additional per night after two people). There are stairs to the south facing, Mt. Rainier view beach. Orcas sometimes visit, seals and otter pass by, and there are eagles perched in the trees most the time. The property is fairly remote, quiet and private, and the beach is lovely for walking.

The kitchenette consists of toaster oven, microwave, hot plate, crock pot and small refrigerator. Melita Creek Restaurant at the Vashon Island Golf & Country Club is 6 minutes away. Thai, Chinese, Mexican, French & American restaurants in the town of Vashon, 15 minutes away. Minglement (at the corner of Cemetery Rd. and Vashon Hwy), the Burton Coffee Stand (written up in the NY Times!), and Cafe Luna (1/2 block west of the 4 way stop in town) have espresso, muffins, etc. The Vashon Tea Shop is a delight for tea drinkers and it is located on the east side of Vashon Highway near the Heron's Nest (a venue for local artists).

Firewood provided for the wood stove and there is electric heat as well.

Laundry service available at $10/load. There is currently no laundromat on the island.

There is a barbecue outside and a fire pit at the beach, should the weather permit.

We will be here to greet you or have the door code available for you if we aren't. We have a friendly dog and free range chickens and ducks peck around in the garden and our fluffy, lazy cat lies about the yard surveying his territory.

Rural, peaceful with a spectacular view of Mt.Rainier. Other than our house, there are no visible neighboring houses. We have horses that pasture next door, Point Robinson lighthouse park and a marine park for beautiful hikes and picnics. The hammock is up in the summer and there is a fire pit at the beach.

Vashon is a great place to explore on your bike. The nearest bus is about 3 miles away. The 119 Metro Bus (to Dockton) serves that stop. If you need a ride to/from the bus, let us know in advance and we will likely be able to pick you up there, or bring your bike on the bus and ride another 3 miles or so to the Loft.

THINGS TO DO:

Visit the Vashon Chamber of Commerce website for a listing of things to do on the island. There are art , garden, solar, farm tours, Strawberry Festival, wineries, a distillery, bike trails, equestrian events, fishing, hiking trails, beach combing, picturesque Point Robinson Lighthouse tours, Island Center Forest or Dockton Park Trails for mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking or jogging. Kyaks can be rented at Burton Beach, and the water there and at Dockton Park gets warm and is very swimmable in the summer. Horses can be boarded nearby, riding lessons or trail rides can be arranged and riding on the beach is wonderful. If you have your own kyaks that are light weight and easily carried, they can be launched at the beach, although it is quite a distance down to the beach.

Art Lessons (painting, photography, drawing, ceramics), trail rides, massage, facials and day spa services can be arranged - fees vary. There is on site tutoring available for children and science, art and other activities can be arranged for with advance notice.

HOUSE RULES:

*Bring a pair of cozy slippers so you can leave your shoes just inside the door.

*There is a small duck pond in the yard and a very large one next door. CHILDREN MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY PARENTS AT ALL TIMES when they are outside, especially those that don't yet swim.

*Smoking outside only.

*Septic system is fragile and VERY difficult to repair, so please don't flush anything that isn't designed to go in the septic tank. No plastic, paper, hair, tampons, pads, diapers, etc. PLEASE. (Damage deposit will be charged in the event a repair is required as a result of something in it that shouldn't be.)

*Pets with $20/day additional charge. The upstairs floors are unfinished plank so they are not good with pet accidents... Dogs can be free at the beach, but need to be leashed for the sake of the ducks, cat, etc. in the yard. Dogs may not be left unattended in the Loft unless crated.

*There is a barbeque available for outdoor cooking if the weather is good, and picnic tables and a fire pit at the beach. Please check with us before having a fire at the beach.

* Our house is 40 feet away, so someone is around most of the time. We are happy to do whatever we can to make your stay comfortable and memorable.

* Check to see if there is a burn ban prior to lighting the wood stove or beach fire. If there is no wind for a few days, a burn ban is sometimes in effect. The fine is $1,000 for violating Puget Sound's Air Quality authority! Yikes!

* By booking your stay with us, you assume all liability, risk and responsibility for any accidents or injuries to yourself or others in your party, regardless of cause, that may occur while you are on our property. You are a guest on the property completely at your own risk and agree to hold property owners harmless for all injuries and accidents that may occur at any time you are on the property. Unmarked hazards, including but not limited to slippery or uneven footing, rugged terrain, primitive stairs, unfenced ponds, water, a tall bulkhead, swings, trampoline, unpredictable animals (horses, dogs, chickens, ducks, etc.), exist. You, upon entering our property, must accept all liability, risk and responsibility for any accidents or injuries that occur to you or others in your party during the entirety of your stay. You agree to hold property owners harmless in the event of an/all injuries or accidents, regardless of cause or 'fault' during your stay.

What makes this cottage unique

A great beach for walking. Mountain biking trails nearby and kyak rentals available at Burton Beach Park.

If you have a horse to bring along, we will escort you on rides through island center forest and will find a place for it to stay on the island while you are here.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A perfect get-away from the city! Easy to get to from Seattle or Tacoma: 20 minutes across Puget Sound aboard a Washington State Ferry. Vashon has great restaurants (we highly recommend La Boucherie for an elegant farm to table experience and May's Thai), a walking-friendly town with local art The Heron's Nest), grocery stores for supplies for beach fire dinners or barbeques, kyak rentals, trails for mountain biking, horseback riding, a movie theater, beachcombing, bird watching, fishing, 2 wineries, a distillery, yoga...it's all on Vashon.

The loft is about 10 minutes from the main town, and set in a peaceful, rural part of the island. The loft is well-equipped and comfortable, and very clean. The beach access makes the spectacular, private, south-facing beach a highlight. We found agates and lots of shells. Floating on an air mattress in the summer sun is perfectly relaxing. Majestic Mount Rainier sits across the sound

Beautiful tranquility

  • 5 of 5

The loft was the quiet cozy getaway we were looking for. Matches the pictures and the grounds are even more scenic than expected. Would definitely go back again.

Just What We Needed!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about our stay on Vashon for our wedding night was wonderful, and the Loft was a perfect home base for us - it was cozy, clean, stocked with everything we could need, and had the most gorgeous surroundings, from the views of Mt. Rainier and the sunset, to chickens and bunnies running around. So remote and peaceful. Lisa was also a fantastic host, very helpful and easy to communicate with. I highly recommend this place for anyone needing to get away for some peace and relaxation, while also being conveniently close to downtown Vashon for restaurants and shopping.

Beautiful, comfortable, and private

  • 5 of 5

Lisa's property is absolutely stunning. The loft is tastefully decorated, with interesting design elements throughout. My husband and I stayed here for our wedding night. We had privacy and were so comfortable. The views are gorgeous and there are adorable black bunnies on the property. Lisa did a great job communicating. Her parents live a few minutes away and were able to help me get in when I couldn't get the digital lock to work. I recommend this cute, cozy spot to anyone visiting Vashon!

rural setting with a stunning view overlooking puget sound

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have just spent 2 nights here. Serene is the word that comes to mind. The lodging is a 2 story building awash in colors of the beach: whites and greys. Driftwood and reclaimed wood has been used for window sills and bookshelves. The owner is an artist and the decor shows that . all delightful. Big windows. All that one needs in the partial galley kitchen. Fully stocked bathroom with shower. Woodstove, 2 chairs and small wooden table, rocking chair and small couch make up the main living area with the sleeping loft above. Large lawn faces puget sound. Lawn chairs and an umbrella outside. A steep path down to the beach which is again fully stocked for time spent there. Good directions and a code for the entry gate and the loft door. The owner is on the property should you need her. All meticulously well cared for. Obviously a labor of love! Would recommend this place in a heartbeat! a 10 minute drive from town, easy drive for groceries, exploring the funky town and restaurants. Enjoy!

Breathtaking Views, quaint cozy loft house, absolutely perfect for our wedding!

  • 5 of 5

My bridesmaids and I stayed here the night before my wedding and I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. We also rented their main property out as our venue for the wedding, and this loft house is just adjacent to the venue so it made it really conveinent. The loft and beach house was so adorable and quaint, with by far the most breath-taking views in the Pacific Northwest. It was such a special location to get ready with my bridesmaids on my wedding day. Lisa was so accommodating and helpful throughout the whole process and even re-cleaned and touched up the loft house for the night of our wedding. We will definitely be renting this loft house again in the future. I would highly recommend renting from Lisa and the Deffacio family. They were so wonderful!

Dreams really do come true

  • 5 of 5

The thing that sets Lisa and her VBRO separate from others is Lisa. She likes people and genuinely likes to serve (a love gift) and make people happy. That love spills over from the moment you pull into the property. The unit is exquisite...the oceans view stealing the show. The apartment has just the right balance between feminine and masculine, ying and yang.

The upstairs loft draws you in and immediately brings you to the large window with the gorgeous view of the Ocean. It is a light airy feeling. Every thing is clean and soft.

The shower is small; could even need some work. But is adequate for your needs. The bathroom decor is so creative.

The kitchen set-up is foreign to you, but somehow works. It is not made to create a full meal, but has the essentials for making small meals.

It is the lap of luxury hidden in simplicity.

The grounds are breathtaking and a bit comical. As you walk across the lawn and gaze at the expansive Pacific; your jaw drops. Then out of the corner of your eye you see 4-5 ducks waddlin' in a row across the the yard. In Military precision they begin their march echoed by their constant quacking. It is delightful and surprising. They give you no mind as they are followed by several chickens that like the guardianship.

We enjoyed several areas in the yard to relax. The hammock, the grilling fire pit area, then to just sit and view the blue Pacific on a bench.

Just like the house; Lisa's grounds and gardens are rustic, shabby sheik. You will find nothing here perfectly groomed. And that is what makes you let your guard down. It is still nature at it's finest; so very beautiful.

We found the steep, treacherous steps okay to manage down to the beach. We did wonder how people with small children handled it. Apparently fine. It is definitely worth the trek. Lisa has so many amenities down on the water. Grills, dishes, tables, fire pits, chairs, hammocks, toilets, a shower, rest area....it's a magical place. A place for gatherings, food, stories, games and laughter all with the roar of the ocean. We dreamed of bringing our own families back.

We kayaked at Jensen Park. So inexpensive, great hospitality and a wonderful way to end a day. We had a nice lunch, 4 stars, at The Hardware Store; great service and a killer Margarita. We had Ice cream in town, they make GF waffle cones!

Thank you Lisa. We saw all the hard work you put into this property. You are a very special person.
