About Kim and Arne Schrider

Welcome to Gone Fishin' Cabin, our home away from home in the Northwest! My husband and I both have busy careers. And like most working parents, we are challenged by balancing family needs with work schedules. The cabin is our little Puget Sound waterfront get away from the chaos of normal life. Here, we can enjoy a stroll on the beach with the sea breeze in our hair, take in the amazing oceanfront view while sipping our morning coffee, and listen to the crashing waves from the deck lounge. And the best part, the kids can play on the beach, go clamming, learn to fish or kayak in front of the cabin. Happy memories are made of these...!

Kim and Arne Schrider purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Kim and Arne Schrider chose Olalla

Gone Fishin' Cabin is in the amazing Puget Sound and within an hour from Seattle. We're super family friendly. It's easy to travel to the cabin, either by Ferry or by road. It's in a small rural village, but also close to Gig Harbor, a seaside port with a pedestrian waterfront, quaint shops, restaurants, and all amenities.

What makes this cabin unique

As a family, we love just hanging out by the water and enjoying a relaxing time BBQing, fishing, crabbing, clamming, kayaking, snuggling with a book, or playing board games. When we feel really ambitious, then we go for a long walk on the beach. Taking it easy is what we enjoy best at the cabin.

Another wonderful trip! Thank you so much.

From the oldest to the youngest, all of us cannot wait to get back to the Gone Fishin’ beach house. I almost didn’t write this review because I’m sharing one of Puget Sound best kept secrets.

Great Ocean Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This is was our family's 3rd stay at Gone Fishin' Cabin. It fits our needs so well with the open floor plan with the most incredible view from the family room, dining area, & kitchen. The 2 comfortable bedrooms are in the back of the cabin along w/the bathroom w/the cool trough faucet and bright blue/green decor. Our Carly (labradoodle) loves she can be let out onto the fenced deck unsupervised to watch the seagulls. We cooked a full Thanksgiving dinner in the well stocked kitchen. We took a ton of photos & will make a digital scrapbook since we have so many memories of great family time at this getaway cabin.

We love this place!! We have stayed here on three separate occasions. The house is great for kids. We love watching the sunrises and sea lions with our morning coffee. Kim is amazing at making you feel welcomed and meeting all your needs.

Restorative and Restful

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. Although small, the use of the space in the cabin is extremely accommodating. We stayed a week with our five children. They all shared the room with the bunk beds and did just fine. Some of the milder nights, they slept in the kids' shack and had a blast. Everything at the cabin is very well thought out. The beds are comfortable, there are plenty of linens and towels. The kitchen is well stocked. The toys, books, and play area for the kids are awesome! Not only can they play on the beach, but there is plenty for them to do near the cabin as well. We enjoyed watching Dall's porpoises almost every morning and seals and sea lions throughout the days. We kayaked down to Anderson Point, which was a doable distance, even with kids. The sunrises and sunsets were glorious. All in all, an extremely pleasant stay. Thank you!!

Beautiful location. A little more remote than I was expecting.

  • 4 of 5

It was a beautiful location. Although it was a little more remote than I was expecting. The water was spectacular. The house very well-equipped. The only issue we had the entire stay was the bunk bed. We used the bottom bunk, it was a full size bed, and it made a lot of noise! It was very difficult to sleep through the night because every time I moved it made terrible loud noises. The other bed was wonderful according to the person who stayed in the other bedroom. The "stairs" to the beach were difficult and not really stairs as much as strategically placed rocks. Good wi-fi once you get in. No phone reception, for ATT users, in the house. All in all a very nice stay. Just a little tired from lack of good sleep. Kim was also very easy to deal with.

Great get away from it all!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four (two kids under 3) stayed here for a week. Small, but clean and cute house that was well stocked for everything we needed to enjoy our stay. My husband and I were able to enjoy some peace and quite while the kids played on the playground or hid away in the crab shack. The rock beach that is available at low tide was fun to explore and the private sandy beach (5 minute walk) was beautiful and a perfect spot for the kids and us to run around and build sand castles together. We had several fabulous dinners with friends out on the deck while enjoying the incredible views. The deck is completely enclosed with fencing so perfect for keeping little ones in view and safe. We were even able to drop some crab pots out in front of the cabin and enjoy some fresh crab for dinner one evening.
