You can't see much of Arch Cape from the highway, a fact contributing both to the little community's privacy and its attractiveness. Just past Arch Cape, about four miles south of bustling Cannon Beach, the coast road sweeps even further eastward, bending around the dense foliage of Oswald West State Park. Take the road through that lush green buffer, and you're there - at gorgeous Bear's Head! From the wrap-around deck of this lovely two bedroom home perched on a bluff above the Pacific, you'll have a front-row seat to waves, whales, and the beautiful and moody weather that characterizes the Oregon Coast.
Please note, this listing is for one half of the property. If the separate studio is reserved, the outside spaces will be shared.
But you needn't be on the deck, with its charming Adirondack chairs, and umbrella-topped dining set, to appreciate the panoramic view. Inside or out, the ocean is always there in front of you, brought to you through a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows that wrap around the home. When the chilly winds bite, throw a log in the river-rock fireplace. Make yourself some cocoa or coffee, slip a movie into the DVD player and watch a flick or your favorite show on the DirecTV cable. And don't forget to load up your iPod so you'll have some tunes to play on the iPod dock! There's also internet access, so bring your laptop along as well.
The decor is colorful and edgy, with original pieces of art throughout. The interior space is seamless and modern, with leather chairs that are plush and comfortable. There's a full modern kitchen with microwave and dishwasher, flanked by a wrap-around bar where hungry diners can chat with the chef and munch on hors d'ouevres while they're waiting. The dining table, with room for six, comes with an added treat of the terrific view! If you're planning to dine out, there are 35 restaurants about 12 minutes away in Cannon Beach. Head south to Manzanita (about 7 miles; 10 minutes) where you'll find 10 eateries.
Bear's Head sleeps four comfortably. Along with a queen bed and private bath, the master bedroom also comes with a great ocean view. In the other bedroom, you'll find a full bed and easy access to the hall bath with tub and shower. There's also a washer and dryer so you're not toting laundry home or looking for a laundromat.
Bear's Head is all about location! Situated on one of the most picturesque and rugged parts of the Oregon Coast, there's very little traffic and the area, unlike its neighbors to the north and south, is relatively free of businesses. In winter and spring, grab the binoculars and watch for whales as they spout and breach on their migration! The Pacific Crest Trail - the popular hiking trail that runs along the coast - is right up the hill from the front door. The views from nearby Arch Cape and, a little farther, Cape Falcon, are awe-inspiring! Oswald State Park - where forest runs to water's edge - envelopes the area, offering opportunities for hiking, picnicking, or just a walk on the beach. The fishing is great in nearby (about 7 miles) Nehalem where you can cast your line the Nehalem River. And, if you just have to have that souvenir, head up to Cannon Beach where the streets are lined with boutiques, shops, and galleries.
Come to where the ocean meets the forest in a beautiful and pristine surrounding. Come to Bear's Head in Arch Cape on the rugged, Oregon Coast!
Thanks for considering a Vacasa home! We provide full-service management for privately owned vacation homes, and like to think that we offer our guests the best of both worlds: the unique experience of staying in a one-of-a-kind vacation home, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the home you book for your special vacation is cared for by professional housekeepers and property managers.
Vacasa began in 2009, simply because our founder and CEO Eric wanted to find a better way to share his wife’s family’s summer home in Long Beach, Washington with guests as a vacation rental. Eric and his early team worked to build Vacasa on the premise that local employees can do what they love most (taking care of guests, homeowners, and properties), while the hands-off tasks of vacation rental management—things like marketing, filing taxes, and maintaining a website—could be handled by a specialized central support team.
Our passion is connecting travelers with the unique experience of staying in a vacation home, and we would be honored to be your host. Please contact us with any questions about this home—our team is standing by!
There are many lovely locations on the Oregon Coast but this place was one of a kind . The decor, the color, the panoramic view, all combined to give us a very special stay. Private yet close to so many beautiful beach locations, we would definitely come again.
This is a beautiful location so if you're looking for a house where you have unencumbered views of the ocean, this is your place. The beach access was washed out so a steep scramble down a muddy slope was the only way to get the beach. The house itself was clean but could use some TLC. Most of the plates are chipped, the wine opener didn't work, and there was no wood, kindling, paper or matches for the beautiful fireplace. It's also very dark and could use some more lamps. I probably wouldn't stay here again. The view is amazing but the house wasn't as good as it could be.
This house has an incredible view. I took my sister and 81 yr old mother here and chose this house so my mom could enjoy the ocean as she can't actually walk on the beach. The house was clean and well equipped. I plan to come back.
This is the house if you're looking for a grest view. Fantastic deck furniture is a bonus. Inside the house is well equipped with comfortable beds and all the linens you'll need. It's a very.comfortable home away from home. We will be back in the winter not enjoy the fireplace and storm watching.
This house has a terrific view and you can hear the surf always. We overlooked the fact that there is no beach access (you can walk down the street to a newly built ladder, not far but steep) when choosing the house. The beach has a lot of rocks on it so you and your family would need to be sure-footed to enjoy getting on and off the beach. The kitchen is very user-friendly and the furniture comfy. For high bank enjoyment, perfect!
The three of us (two adults and a and our dog really enjoyed our stay here. You cannot find better ocean views anywhere. The kitchen, dining, family room and 'master bedroom' all have ocean front views. There's a large deck and beautiful green lawn extending out to the edge. You should know there's a cliff at the edge of the lawn so be wise about having young children and dogs roaming freely without supervision. There is no beach access from this property or adjacent area. The two places where people try to reach the beach are very dangerous. The beach itself is very short (up against the cliff) and rocky not sandy. Better to drive a short distance to Hug point or Arcadia beach. The house is very in a very nice quiet neighborhood. The house has an adjoining smaller unit that can also share the deck and yard. The drive down to the house is quiet steep on narrow roads with some potholes to watch for. Still the view. the solitude and great location for trips to area towns like Cannon Beach, Manzanita and Tillamook as well as Oswald State park make it a great vacation rental choice. The inside is decorated in a fun unusual way. It has a nice separate pantry room behind the kitchen where the washer and dryer, utility sink and refrigerator are located. All very convenient. The beds were comfortable but agree with other posters that the family room furnishings -- sofas and chairs have seen better days. Loved the fireplace and used it! All in all, a nice place to stay if you don't require beach access.
