About Mark & Laura Muir

Laura and I are both from the Midwest. We grew up in South Florida. We have traveled all around the US with our 2 children. We love how nice and helpful the residents of North Georgia are.

Mark & Laura Muir purchased this house in 2014

Why Mark & Laura Muir chose Lake Lanier

We've traveled to this area of Georgia many times in the last several years and loved it. We decided to purchase a home in Big Canoe after we toured the community in the Fall of 2013. We were very impressed so we decided to buy a home that we could use as a vacation home.

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with this renovated home when we saw it was available online. Once we toured it in person, we were hooked. We loved the contemporary craftsman style and the mountain view when you open the front door is spectacular.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you guys so much for letting us stay at your mountain home. We had a great time and your house is amazing. We want to come back possibly in the fall if we can make time but if not…soon. The whole area was so beautiful. I think you guys must have the best view at Big Canoe!

Thanks Again,

Debra

You won't believe the views from this Big Canoe home!!!

VRBO Bear stayed here

Jul 20, 2017

It’s a pleasure to give our highest possible rating to this marvelous home in Big Canoe, and it was the ideal setting for a family reunion. To begin, the owners couldn’t be more hospitable. They were very attentive before, during and after our stay to make sure we had all of the information we would need to be happy and comfortable throughout our week. The actual property itself is even better than pictured. We were giddy with utter joy walking through the front door every day. What a view! The home benefits from a stunning design that is part cozy mountain cottage, part sleek contemporary home. There was plenty of space for our family of 8 to spread out; however all of the common areas were well appointed and designed for family time. By the end of our stay, we wanted to move in! The home is located in the community of Big Canoe, a private mountain community comprised of thousands of acres of beautiful Appalachian forest, lakes, nature trails, and wildlife. There are also a host of amenities and facilities for both adults and families. We used the swim and tennis clubs daily, rented pontoon boats, hiked and the spent evenings on one of the several porches or balconies at the home to enjoy the mountain sunsets. Overall, it is a very idyllic place in a great location. Other things our family truly appreciated were the kitchen, the extensive outdoor entertaining space, the allergen-free policy, and the well-stocked game cabinet. We cooked most meals, so we appreciated how well-equipped the kitchen was. We have allergy-sufferers in the group, so we loved that the cleaning detergents were all perfume free and the pillows/bedding/towels were hypoallergenic. We also made good use of the puzzles, games and DVDs on hand. Overall, it was a wonderful trip, and we definitely look forward to going back next year!

Breathtaking

  • 5 of 5

Needing a much needed getaway, we found this little piece of heaven. The house is beautiful and the views are breathtaking. It is quiet and so homey and elegant. We could have literally stayed in the house and screened in deck or outside deck the entire stay and been satisfied. We will definitely be staying here again. There is a grocery store right outside of Big Canoe which you can get the essentials. Amicalola Falls is a short drive away and well worth it. The only thing we were not impressed with was the Black Bear Pub restaurant, the service was excellent but we were not impressed with the tiny menu. They did not have the full menu that was posted on the website only about a third of it. If you are looking for the perfect getaway in a beautiful home and gorgeous environment then please stay here. Mark and Laura are wonderful!!!!

Simply Perfect. Ideal for Families and Family Reunions.

  • 5 of 5

It’s a pleasure to give our highest possible rating to this marvelous home. Our family of 8 spent one week at this home in Big Canoe, and it was the ideal setting for a family reunion.

To begin, the owners couldn’t be more hospitable. They were very attentive before, during and after our stay to make sure we had all of the information we would need to be happy and comfortable throughout our week. Mark would text us from time to time just to make sure we were doing okay, and any time I had a question, he would respond within an hour or less. Such incredible commitment to guest experience!

The actual property itself is even better than pictured. It’s hard to describe the giddy feeling of utter joy that both the kids and the adults felt walking through that front door every day. What a view! The home benefits from a stunning design that is part cozy mountain cottage, part sleek contemporary home. It sleeps 8 people comfortably, and manages to be both spacious while still feeling very cozy. There was plenty of space to spread out, but all of the common areas were well appointed and designed for family time. By the end of our stay, we wanted to move in!

The home is located in the community of Big Canoe, a private mountain community comprised of thousands of acres of beautiful Appalachian forest, lakes, nature trails, and wildlife. We used the swim and tennis clubs daily, rented pontoon boats, hiked and the spent evenings on one of the several porches or balconies at the home to enjoy the mountain sunsets. Overall, it is a very idyllic place, and the home is well located to the main action.

Other things our family truly appreciated were the kitchen, the extensive outdoor entertaining space, the allergen-free policy, and the well-stocked game cabinet. We cook almost every meal, so we appreciated how well-equipped the kitchen was and had no trouble making multi-course meals in the space.

Girls' Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful girls' trip in Big Canoe! What a beautiful house! It is a well-stocked, wonderfully maintained home with lots of natural light and beautiful furnishings. We spent lots of time on the screened-in porch enjoying the view and each others' company. The pictures don't do it justice. The house and its surroundings are even prettier than the pictures! We took a hike to the Lower Falls, ate lunch at the Clubhouse, took a tour of nearby Gibbs Gardens, and just thoroughly enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere that Big Canoe offers. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat!
