About Lisa Wanless

My husband and I have always dreamed of owning a cabin in northern Wisconsin. We started the journey to our dream in 2012. After viewing several properties over several months, we picked the property on Smith Lake and fell in love! We located a log home builder close to our home and began the building process. We love our cabin on Smith Lake. We have fallen in love with the Loons on the property thus the name Lazy Loon Cabin.

Lisa Wanless purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Lisa Wanless chose Northwest

Smith Lake offered everything we wanted in a lake. It's quiet but large enough to boat and participate in all kinds of water sports. It has a family feel and great neighbors.

The perfect northwoods getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this cabin for our 2 year wedding anniversary and it was exactly what we were hoping for. This cabin is off the main drag so you don't have crazy noisy neighbors yet it is close enough to town to make a dash in for pancake batter (not said from experience or anything). The lake is clean and quiet-we couldn't believe that on labor day weekend there were so few boats on the lake. The cabin itself is adorable - all the touches needed to help make your stay more enjoyable where there plus more. We thoroughly enjoyed the deck that overlooked the lake with the rocking chairs and hammock. Even with one of the days we were there being rainy, being able to play games outside on that amazing deck and still soak in the scenery with the sound of the pattering rain almost enjoy that day the best.

This place is amazing and we already are looking to book another trip back. We highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun northwoods experience.

Totally happy for a family getaway

  • 5 of 5

Great cabin and everything necessary in the kitchen. Microwave was added after earlier reviews. Loft was spacious w twin beds and space for a pack n play for our little one.

Great lake view from the porch and great space for campfires w everything you could need. (Wood included!). Just bring bug spray! Plenty of books, games, and movies to keep busy for nights or rainy day. Be sure to bring camping propane...grill is a small gas weber.

For boat owners, i had no issue w my 18ft boat. Just bring 150 ft extension for electricity to the dock. The lake was very quiet all week in mid August for being populated. Fishing was great for crappie during our week.

Feedback: garbage could have been collected during our stay. Consider recycling for cans and bottles if possible. Also a dresser or something to put luggage on in the loft would be a nice addition.

Thanks for the stay!

So Relaxing!

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful location and perfect cabin! We loved the paddle boat and canoes as well! Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was the proximity to the neighbors and the higher noise level.

Perfect Get Away

  • 5 of 5

Once again, we had a fabulous stay at the Lazy Loon. Although the weather was a bit cool and rainy, we still managed a remarkable vacation filled with fishing, campfires, and relaxing with a view of the lake. The cabin is beautiful and our family enjoyed every minute of our time there. The perfect northwoods experience.

Beautiful cabin on a quiet lake

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I had a great time at the cabin. We loved that it was so close to Hayward. Though close to other properties, we found it to be quiet during our stay. We had fun fishing off the dock and using the canoe to explore the lake and fish. The front porch with the rocking chairs and hammock is a great place to relax! We do wish there had been a microwave as we ate in and are tea drinkers, but we understand this is not a necessity. We do plan on coming back in the future! We made some terrific memories!
