Guestbook comments from the owner

I and my family stayed at Bill’s Summit Lake cabin for 3 wonderful weeks! To call it a cabin understates the elegance and the high-end finishes of this lovely home. Not only is it beautifully furnished and appointed, the layout is superb! With a sumptuous (Views! Views! Views!) master bedroom with deluxe king size bed, lovely corner sofa, AND a separate living room upstairs, (there’s another lovely bedroom upstairs too!) I and my husband had privacy while the teens had their own bedrooms and living room downstairs. We all had the space we needed and wanted together and apart – that makes for a fabulous get-away!

The views are to die for! Tons of decks and tons of great viewing windows make all the difference. Views of the snow-capped peaks, Summit Lake, and the ponderosa pines on 35 very private acres really provided a nourishing setting. We loved watching all the deer that came through each day, herds of them!

We have no doubt that when we next return to the Durango-Mancos-Cortez area we will rent this home again! Thank you Bill for being such a wonderful and accessible host!

Large house, beautiful view

  • 5 of 5

The house is enormous and very comfortable.

I particularly loved the view of the lake, listening to the crickets, watching all the birds and the squirrels. The master bedroom upstairs is just wonderful with all the windows. I loved the bed too: high and with a firm mattress.

There are lots of spices if you like to cook (I don't).

What was missing: tea and coffee.

Also I would have preferred checking out a bit later than 10 AM after a 4 PM check-in.

Perfect Location and House

  • 5 of 5

This is our fourth say at Summit Lake Cabin-two winter trips and this second summer trip. Weather was fantastic, windows open every night, cool breezes and mild days. This is first trip without house full of children and grandchildren and the peacefulness made us wish we had booked 10 days instead of 5. Kitchen and furnishing are great for two as they have been for 12 guests. Delores Brewpub is still our favorite for local beer and outstanding pizza and there is always Angie's deserts. Clean crisp sheets on the bed and spotless elsewhere. We will be back (for longer than 5 days). Highly recommend for large groups or just two. J&J

Beautiful home and great vacation.

We are a family from Florida that took a road trip vacation to Colorado. This house was wonderful. It had everything we needed plus more. Beautiful views of mountains and lake front. Plenty of room, comfy and nicely equipped kitchen. We will be back!

Peace and quiet!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home, great location, and great memories! It was close to Mancos (go get an awesome breakfast fry bread in town by the gas station!) and Mesa Verde was amazing! The house had great rooms, awesome views, and was quiet and secluded. Well-stocked kitchen. Good WiFi and plenty of space. I would recommend setting showers in 11 o'clock position to avoid draining the hot water tank too quickly. The lake down the meadow Is a short walk to the grassy edge, and fun was had by all - including our dogs! Thanks so much for a wonderful vacation!

Summit lake cabin in June 2017

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed our stay here. It is very private yet close to everything..plenty of room for our large group of eleven people. Waking up in the morning and going to bed at night looking at the lake is peaceful. We enjoyed watching the wildlife and playing cards upstairs. The beds and furniture are comfortable and the inside of the home is beautiful. We were not able to make use of the outside of the home at this time of year. Overall, one of the better VRBO homes we have stayed at. That being said..there are a number of things that would make this nicer for large groups.

1. The house needs air conditioning. The temps while we were there never went below 97 and the house was hot and didn't begin to cool off till after 1:00 in the morning.

2. The bunk room and the upstairs bedroom need fans.

3. The kitchen needs a hand mixer, steak knives, griddle, larger sauce pans, a second coffee maker, extra small refrig., measuring cups, bigger garbage can and more extra garbage sacks.

4. Outside, Bear proof garbage cans as we had to pick up garbage strewed about by bears.

5. The decks, fire pit, and swings were unusable while we were there because of the hoards of mosquitoes and gnats at this time of year..even bug spray didn't help.

6. This is a lake VIEW the lake is unusable from the property. The mud and weeds bar any entry into the lake, we tried, and wound up driving all the way to the other side of the lake to the state rec area to swim and play in the lake.

7. A number of outlets in the upstairs bedroom did not work.

8. Sliding doors that lock so the property can be secured when no one is there. The locks were broken during our visit.

9. If you are doing laundry, showering and dishes all at once the hot water on demand can not keep up and shuts off.

10. Be prepared for a road in need of grading to get to the driveway to this house.

11. The internet router shut off twice during our visit and had to be re-plugged into the power strip provided.

Awesome house in the woods

  • 5 of 5

House was huge and very nice. The deck is great for looking at the lake during the day and stars at night. Mesa Verde is only about 20 minutes away and about 1 hour to Four Corners. Would also recommend the Anasazi Heritage Center, also about 20 minutes away. The house is totally private, sitting on a multi-acre lot fronting the South end of Summit Reservoir. Only regret is not being able to use the awesome fire pit due to wildfire restrictions. Access road is a little rough but manageable if you take it slow. Would highly recommend this house to anyone looking to spend some time in the area.
