Hello, and thanks for your interest in Summit Lake Cabin. My wife, two children and I live in Dolores County. I have been a real estate agent in the area for 15 years, and love the natural beauty of Southwest Colorado. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
Bill Stanley purchased this cabin in 2013
On a beautiful, no-wake lake; quiet and secluded.
I and my family stayed at Bill’s Summit Lake cabin for 3 wonderful weeks! To call it a cabin understates the elegance and the high-end finishes of this lovely home. Not only is it beautifully furnished and appointed, the layout is superb! With a sumptuous (Views! Views! Views!) master bedroom with deluxe king size bed, lovely corner sofa, AND a separate living room upstairs, (there’s another lovely bedroom upstairs too!) I and my husband had privacy while the teens had their own bedrooms and living room downstairs. We all had the space we needed and wanted together and apart – that makes for a fabulous get-away!
The views are to die for! Tons of decks and tons of great viewing windows make all the difference. Views of the snow-capped peaks, Summit Lake, and the ponderosa pines on 35 very private acres really provided a nourishing setting. We loved watching all the deer that came through each day, herds of them!
We have no doubt that when we next return to the Durango-Mancos-Cortez area we will rent this home again! Thank you Bill for being such a wonderful and accessible host!

If you're looking for a little piece of Heaven tucked away from everyone and everything, you've found it! We spent Christmas 2016 here with our two dogs and could not have been happier! The property is absolutely gorgeous! We arrived after a heavy snow and the cabin was something out of a fairy-tale! Our dogs loved exploring the property with us. We can't wait to go back and bring the rest of the family as there is plenty of room for everyone! The cabin itself was clean, spacious, and had a well stocked kitchen that we used as well as a game table upstairs. The views are stunning and we loved waking up each morning to the mountain and tree views. I'm sure kids would have a blast here as well. There were swings, horseshoes, and a fire-pit. Tons to do if playing in the snow is on your to-do list. The lake was frozen, but I can imagine it adds additional activities for the summertime. My husband and I travel often and this was one of the most low-key, yet memorable vacations we've had! The owner was wonderful to work with and everything went smoothly! We spent a day touring around Mesa Verde and visiting Durango, but our favorite times were just hanging out around the cabin and the property!
When we arrived everything was very nice, clean and we felt right at home. The view was stunning to see the mountains on one side and the lake on the other. We enjoyed playing in the snow and swinging on the 2 swings. We loved going for hikes around the reservoir and loved every bit of it.
The Summit Lake Cabin exceeded our expectations. Our son was getting married down the road towards Mancos at Green Table Farm. The summit Lake Cabin was close enough to the wedding venue, yet far enough away for a relaxing stay. The cabin has beautiful decor, comfy beds, great lake and mountain views, well equiped kitchen, roomy bedrooms (especially the master) and tons of land. it was also very quiet!! Our family highly recommends this property!
First, I must tell you that we booked Bill's property at the very last minute (24 hour notice) when we decided to plan a quick trip to Mesa Verde. Due to the last minute booking, we had a couple of hiccups with access and housekeeping, but Bill worked very hard to remedy the issue and still earned a full five stars for the property.
That being said, Bill's responsiveness and the truly unique attributes of this location will have us coming back...The location is perfect for people who want to have privacy but still want close in conveniences; both Mancos and Dolores are only 15 minutes away, but when you are at the house you can feel like the only person for miles. We had multiple excursions planned during our long weekend, but only ended up doing Mesa Verde because everyone had more fun on the property! Between game night, horseshoes, bocce, kayaking (rentals), and fishing on the lake, we more than filled our weekend just steps from the doorway.
The house is perfectly laid out for two small families to share, and the views from the bedrooms and decks are stunning. The kids have already asked if we can come back next year.
Lovely home and exactly as presented. We found it clean and comfortable. The only complaint is that the bedroom upstairs (not the master) really needs some circulation from a ceiling or floor fan. My sister slept there and the first night had to vacate for the bunk bedroom because it was too warm in that upstairs room. That small addition can make all the difference in the world. Plenty of dishes for eating but a few more storage containers would be nice too. But despite any of that, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will put it on our list for a return!
It is nicer than the pictures show. There was pleanty of room for our extended family. Our grandkids enjoyed the swings, a campfire every evening, hikes around the lake. It was really very nice! The kitchen is roomy enough for several people to be preparing meals and a large table to eat at.
A great destination.
Summit Lake is situated between Mancos and Dolores Colorado within easy driving distance to: Durango, Telluride, Mesa Verde National Park and the canyonlands of southeast Utah. The nearby towns of Mancos and Dolores are quiet rural towns with lots friendly and welcoming folks.
