Overview

About the property

3 bedroom, 2 bath home

Enjoy the tranquility of our small farm where the amenities of the charming village of Los Olivos are just steps away. Plan your day while breakfasting in the shade of a large mulberry tree, fortifying yourself with fresh organic eggs collected (in season) from our hens and seasonal fruits and veggies you may harvest from our garden. Stroll into the village to enjoy local wine or visit an art gallery. Bike the wine trails of Ballard Canyon or Foxen Canyon where you might stop to enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the many scenic wineries along the way. Let the local shuttle bus, which stops just a few yards from your front door, chauffer you to the nearby towns of Ballard, Santa Ynez, Solvang, and Buellton where you might spend an afternoon visiting historical sites or museums, tasting wine, sampling olive oil, Danish pastries (and Aebleskivers!) or shopping for souvenirs. At the end the day relax on our patio or in the jacuzzi situated in a beautifully landscaped garden. Pull a chair nearer the paddock, where the chickens and goats will surely entertain. On chilly evenings enjoy a movie in the family room where a cozy fire and a soft chenille throw will warm you. Prepare dinner in our newly remodeled kitchen or walk into the village to savor local gourmet farm-to-table fare.

Great place to stay in the heart of Santa Barbara Wine Country!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and our two adult children have been planning a trip to the Santa Barbara Wine Country for quite some time. Our son is a wine maker here in Washington and that area is one of the few wine areas on the west coast we had not yet visited. The lovely micro farm and its location far exceeded our expectations!

We loved the spacious home and the beautiful yards and we had memorable evenings barbequing on the back patio after visiting wineries in either Los Olivos or other wine areas close by . We also spent one day walking a few blocks to downtown Los Olivos and found it very charming. The hot tub was a big hit for our son!

The kitchen had everything I needed to fix a family dinner - I almost felt I was in my own home! Our children loved feeding the goats and gathering the eggs from the chickens each morning. That was icing on the cake.

We had a lovely time and took home with us many wonderful memories. I hope we will be able to revisit someday in the future. I strongly recommend this jewel!

Owner's Response: Billie, So glad you enjoyed your stay in the Santa Ynez Valley and the Los Olivos Micro Farm. I am sure the animals loved having you, as they love our guests. I hope the wine tasting and research was successful and fruitful as well. As a former viticulture and enology graduate, Willamette Valley Oregon vineyard owner, and a lover of great wines, I would love to try your sons wines. What winery in Washington is he the winemaker of? Love to know. We go up to Washington every month as well. It would be great to drop by for a wine tasting visit. We hope to have you back again soon. Thanks again for your great review. April

Fun on the Micro Farm!

  • 5 of 5

My fiance and my parents plus our little dog stayed here while we were visiting our wedding venue in Los Olivos. It was the perfect cozy retreat and was so convenient to be able to walk into town! The guys also loved feeding the goats! Super charming.

A magical retreat

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay and April was a fantastic host. We came with our 2.5 year old daughter who had some much fun petting the goats and collecting eggs. It was the perfect escape from the city. The house is very well appointed and has everything you need. The super cute town of Los Olivos is literally a two minute walk away, but you wouldn't know it while you're at the house. We'll be back!

Owner's Response: Ross, Thanks so much for your great review. We hope to see your family up here again soon at the Micro Farm for another much needed escape from the hectic life of LA and the traffic. That's why we left and moved up here ourselves. We love it up here. The goats and hens look forward to welcoming you and your daughter back again soon as well. As I said, they love guests as you most likely found out🐐 🐣🐓🐐🐣🐓🐐🐣🐓🐐 April

Great location! Beautiful home.

  • 5 of 5

The gardens were exquisite and the animals so much fun. We want to come back when all the fruit trees are in season. The only thing I would recommend would be putting queens in the bedrooms instead of single beds. Overall a great stay and will go back!

Owner's Response: Amanda, Thank you for your very nice review. The animals are great, aren't they. The gardens are getting better and better. We did a major fruit tree pruning last winter, but the trees are busting out with new leaves and flowers. So we should have a lot of fruit again this year. Also, all the vegetable beds have been replanted so our crop should be great this summer as well for our guests to enjoy. Your comment on the beds is a valid one. We have weighed replacing one room of trundle beds with another queen, but most of our business has been singles of all men or all ladies, or mixed friends, and families with kids. So due to that we have held off with the switch. In those cases none of them would share a bed, so that would very much limit our guests comfort. However, there may be a day when we add a new queen to the front bedroom. For now, the queen in the master and the two trundles in the other two rooms has served us well. But we will reconsider. You are the 3rd person to say this in our 3 years of business. So we do appreciate the suggestion. We look forward to your return later this year when the fruits and vegetables are ready for the picking. We will have 6 hens again soon, 3 of which you have already met. But we are also adding 3 new young ones to the flock. So more Farm Fresh Eggs for our guests. Thanks again for your review and comments, and hope to see you again very soon. April

The Santa Ynez Valley is an region of exceptional natural beauty and a near perfect Mediterranean climate. It is known for its horse farms, cattle ranches, olive groves, and crop farms as well as many of the nation's finest vineyards. Most definitely come to experience the valley's acclaimed wineries, but take the time to discover its exquisite landscape. Explore the Los Padres National Forest; picnic, hike, or mountain bike among the oaks and pines of the Figueroa Mountain, Lake Cachuma, or Santa Ynez River recreational areas. Discover local flora and fauna at the Sedgwick Reserve, nearly 6,000 pristine acres under the stewardship of the University of California at Santa Barbara. Visit the historic towns of Ballard, Santa Ynez, and Solvang to learn how the traditions of Spain, Denmark, and the American West made their mark on the development of early California. And of course visit the village of Los Olivos, a 19th-century stage coach stop whose Victorian and Old West architecture is now home to dozens of local wine tasting rooms.
