Mahana House is a quiet and relaxing place to soak up the expansive ocean views and is IDEALLY LOCATED to explore the many lush gardens and spectacular waterfalls nearby as well as Hilo town and HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK. There are bananas, avocados, lychee and passionfruit available for guests to enjoy in season.

Our large lanais are the perfect place to BBQ and enjoy dinner by tiki torch light in the evening or coffee with sunrise in the morning.
Some day trip ideas include exploring waterfalls and gardens nearby, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and MAUNA KEA summit and stargazing. There is virtually no limit to the activities and adventures available to you on the Big Island. We have a 3 night minimum for guest reservations.

The OCEAN is a short drive down the road to a former sugar cane plantation, now Hakalau Park. HAWAII TROPICAL BOTANICAL GARDEN and AKAKA FALLS are within a few easy miles of the farm. After a day of sight seeing, return to the beautiful ocean view, warm breezes and peaceful atmosphere of our farm.
MAHANA HOUSE COUNTRY INN is owned and operated by Randy and Alison Simpson who have years of experience in the hospitality industry. We pride ourselves on the CLEANLINESS and COMFORT of our WELL-APPOINTED guest rooms. It is our most sincere wish to provide our guests with a quiet, peaceful, and relaxing stay on the Big Island. The incredible natural beauty and climate of Hawaii is something we appreciate every day and it is a privilege to share this wonderful place with our guests.
Randy and Alison Simpson
Randy and Alison moved to the Big Island from Ontario, Canada in 2013. After visiting for the first time in 2008, we fell in love with the Hamakua Coast. We were able to sell our hotel and restaurant businesses in our hometown of Stratford and make the dream of Mahana House a reality.
Randy and Alison live in a small house slightly uphill from the main house. A few friendly cats roam the farm. They are happy to be petted should you encounter them (perhaps on your lanai…) but are definitely not allowed inside the main house or guest rooms.
Randy Simpson purchased this house in 2013
After visiting the Big Island several times, we fell in love with the Hamakua Coast. Once we found this property and the saw view we were hooked. The East side of Hawaii offers a unique experience with great parks, restaurants and hikes for your Hawaii adventure.
Large private guest rooms are newly built by industry professionals. Incredibly beautiful climate and view. Perfect for couples. Stay and do exactly as much or as little as you like!
Innkeepers Randy and Allison Simpson have created their own piece of paradise on the Big Island -- sort of a layered cake of paradise upon paradise. What's more, they provide their guests with a very hospitable experience by striking a perfect balance between being accessible for conversation, travel and tourist information while encouraging guests to make themselves feel at home on their own. Add to that, the abundance of bananas and avocados Randy picks from his property for his guests and you have a perfect formula for a 5-star stay.
We enjoyed eight days at Mahana House Country Inn. The four rooms are lovely and well appointed with sleep number beds and private decks looking out onto a lawn with the ocean in the distance. The inn is perfectly situated in a quiet neighborhood of larger properties and farmland. We loved taking daily trips to locations all over the island and coming back to the inn to cook meals in a huge kitchen equipped with everything that even a discerning chef might need. We gathered for most of our meals out on the common deck area to the light of torches and with coqui frogs providing the background music. The innkeepers have not missed a beat in supplying their guests with items travelers might need to make their stay more comfortable including beach gear, extra towels, snorkels and even a small screw driver for one of us to fix our sun glasses.
We would highly recommend Mahana House Country Inn to anyone coming to the Big Island. Randy is a superb host and the accommodations are designed to provide a wonderful environment for any vacationer's stay.
We spent 4 nights at Mahana house. We couldn't believe how immaculate the place was and how tranquil. Randy and Alyson thought of everything. Whatever we didn't have in our own room, we could find it in the great room available to all guests. Fresh fruit and avocados outside our door every morning, view of the sunrise over the ocean from our individual lanai and no city noises. They gave us a list of all the sites to see and we hit as many as we could. One night we had a bonfire with our hosts, very nice down to earth people. We island hopped on this vacation, but none of the other vacation rentals could even come close to Mahana House.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Mahana House. Randy and Alison provided everything you could think of, in addition to the normal amenities. It was great to have a fully equipped kitchen, a private lanai to watch the sunrise, a wonderful room, access to a washer and dryer, beach equipment and gracious hosts. Our flight was not until evening and because another guest was not arriving that day, Randy and Alison let us stay in the room until we left for the airport. We will definitely there stay again.
This property is about 12 miles from central Hilo and about 3 miles from the beautiful Akaka Falls. The Mahana House is beautiful, private and serene, and has all the amenities you could ask for. The room has a mini kitchenette, a bathroom with a large shower, and a private backyard patio. There is also a TV in the room with Netflix so you can watch anything you would like. There is a large communal kitchen in the main house with every kitchen tool and appliance and the gracious owners even provide spices and condiments if you decide to cook. They also leave out fresh bananas, avocados, lemons, etc. from their farm for guests to take! There is also a laundry room (detergent provided) so you can do laundry as well. Randy and Allison (the owners) are very kind and helpful and always made sure we were happy and taken care of. We loved staying at Mahana House and we look forward to staying there the next time we go to the Big Island. Mahalo!
Excellent place to Stay. Great hosts and a beautiful room. Mahana House was clean, well maintained and a super value. I cannot say enough about our visit. We stayed 4 nights and had all needs accounted for. If you are looking for a great value, spotless rooms, comfortable beds and excellent hosts then this is where you will want to stay. We will be back and this is exactly where we will stay!!!! I highly recommend.

Can't say enough about the details of why this place is so special; after 16 nights in Kailua Kona this is EXACTLY what we wanted and needed....wish we would have done 10 nights here instead of 6. Attention to detail is beyond compare and exemplifies the professional standards that Randy and Alison take pleasure in delivering. It truly is refreshing to discover this level of hospitality. I'm a travel advisor of 28+ years and guard my leisure time with a vengeance. This slice of heaven on earth is not for everyone, but if you do your homework and vet this property carefully you, too, will drive away from this place wishing you would never have to leave. Hats off to you both, R&A, job well done and we thank you for a fantastic 6 nights with some of the best sleep we've had in your great Sleep-comfort beds, best pillows ever, fab shower, awesome views (hello rainbows every afternoon) and yummy waffle robes that allowed me walk-out access to the stars on the great lawn at 3am most nights....so, so special. I will DEFINITELY be back. I won't spill the beans on details of things that made me smile so widely and will let your future guests discover on their own. Major Mahalos!
One of the things we love most about our property is that we are in quiet rural setting while at the same time close to Hilo which has all we need for groceries, restaurants, shopping and entertainment.
