About Nancy Cameron-Gilsey
I'm a licences independent clinical social worker. In 2003, I took a respite from working with troubled children and families. With a leap of faith and a sizable mortgage, I took over my families Inn business. Until the main inn and restaurant sold in Dec. 2013, I ran this 24 unit bed and breakfast, hosting weddings/events and, as some of you may remember, our Sunday Morning Live Brunches. I have recently furbished and expanded the rooms in the building known as GullsNest for weekly rentals. I have a husband, Peter, two grown children (Kai and Maya), and Little Dipper, my canine side kick.
Nancy Cameron-Gilsey purchased this Apartment in 1945
Why Nancy Cameron-Gilsey chose Rockport
I purchased the property from my sisters after my parents passed away (2003 – 2013). They started the Seaward Inn in 1945 when it was only considered a cottage. They built and added until it became a 36 unit, highly acclaimed resort. Although sad to sell “the heart” of Seaward Inn (my childhood home), a new beginning, The Seaward, has emerged. "Drop a pebble in the water: Just a splash, and it is gone; But there’s half-a-hundred ripples circling on and on and on, Spreading, spreading from the center flowing out to the sea. And there is no way of telling where the end is going to be". By James W. Foley
What makes this Apartment unique
Both young and older guests love the peace, solitude and high standard of cleanliness (not to mention the ocean views) that is The Seaward.

Loved this place. . First, the place is immaculate. Comfy, cozy, the bed is so comfortable. The ocean is across the street and visible from your dining table or the porch, or the lawn, take your pick. And the innkeeper is terrific. We went off season, it was very quiet, which was perfect for us. There is a footpath less than a 1/2 block away where you can walk along the ocean, down to Old Garden Beach. Really couldn't ask for more for this place. Conveniently located between Rockport and Gloucester, easy access to either town. Grocery store is just down the street. Farm stand is at the end of the street. Highly recommend staying here!
The Seaward is the perfect getaway! I travelled from Boston to Rockport to take a little break from the city with my boyfriend. It's about a 50 minute drive or you can take the Train from north station all the way to Rockport. We stayed in Room 205, a second story room with a deck overlooking the ocean. We could not get enough of that view! Every window we looked out of either had a view of the ocean or gorgeous views of the gardens and green grass around the Seaward. Although our room had an AC, at night we chose to turn it off and enjoy the cool ocean breeze ( the window was right above our heads in bed so the breeze blew over is all night-perfection!). We ate dinner in town and went to the beaches during the day. Next visit we will plan to go grocery shopping to use the big grill the Seaward provides. This place is a true find and feels like paradise when the sun is setting, birds are chirping, and bunnies are hopping around the lawns. We will definitely be back- and soon!!
Mary - Thank you so much for this lovely review! It was such a treat to have you and your boyfriend in Loblolly Cove for a week. It's such a quick trip to paradise from Boston. Next time you should think about taking your bikes on the train and riding to the Seaward. Vacation then begins the moment you step on the MBTA. Hope you can make it back in the Fall. See you soon!
A Rockport Gem
This adorable apartment is perfect for an ocean getaway. The apartment was clean and cozy with comfortable beds and many amenities. You can't beat the gorgeous ocean view from the front room. The apartment is an easy walk or short car ride to Rockport, a quintessential New England oceanside town. There are also many beautiful beaches in Rockport and its neighboring town of Gloucester. Nancy was a wonderful and accommodating host. We will definitely be back to stay again!
Thank you for taking the time to write this review. It is greatly appreciated! Your description of the comfortable beds, great views and proximity to the beach and town will, undoubtedly, be valuable to future guests considering The Seaward. I hope you and Tom will be able to make a return visit one day
Everything you need for a peaceful, relaxing vacation. Comfortable living area, small but functional kitchen area, large bedroom with a king bed, and s small bathroom. Great view of the ocean from the windows or the small, private garden. This is just a great place to relax and unwind. The owner, Nancy, is very friendly and available to answer any questions or resolve any problems. We would definitely stay again if we return to Rockport.
Thank you for this review. I know how hard it can be to get to these things after returning from a week of peace and relaxation. It was a pleasure meeting you and Fran. I hope to see you again one day.
Relaxing oasis by the sea
The Seaward has everything that my boyfriend and I needed to unwind - stunning views of the ocean, a very comfortable bed and Nancy - the innkeeper who gave me great recommendations of things to check out in Rockport/Gloucester during my stay. An absolute gem. Can't wait to return!!
Thank you Samara! Your review and kind comments are greatly appreciated. I look forward to your return in October!
A perfect spot for a fall getaway and visit to Endicott for Parent's weekend!
" What a perfect spot!" We could not be happier with our room "suite"! We have already talked about coming back to rent the same room for later in the school year, next Fall/Parents weekend and for graduation next spring! We love the white horizontal boards on the walls and the open space! Maybe next visit we will get to sit out on the Adirondack chairs and enjoy the beautiful view to the ocean. Loved the mason jar of coffee, sugar, & snacks!
