About Mike and Janice Pryor

After I got married, Mike and I purchased a lot in the Columbine Lake subdivision, just a few minutes from Grand Lake. In 2008, we built our custom home, hoping we could retire there. We designed the home with features I've always wanted: Large kitchen granite countertops, wood burning fireplace, hardwood floors, knotty alder custom cabinets and bathrooms for every bedroom. The Town of Grand Lake is still as charming as I remember and I know you will enjoy it as much as we have.

Growing up in Colorado meant long weekends in the state's mountains. My parents often bundled my three brothers and me into the family's Suburban and headed to Grand Lake for days of exploration. We fished Lake Granby from my dad's 10-foot aluminum boat, hoping for a bite and crossing our fingers that the motor would start again. After a day on the water, we'd head into the Town of Grand Lake for a round of miniature golf and an ice cream treat. As a kid, I loved the town's old west feel. I wanted to spend as much time there as possible.

Not much has changed in Grand Lake since my childhood. The town is still as charming as I remember, and I still want to spend as much time there as possible. After my husband Mike and I married, we bought a lot in the Columbine Lake subdivision. We designed our dream home from the ground up with hardwood floors, a wood-burning fireplace, a large kitchen, and a bathroom for every bedroom so I wouldn't have to share with my brothers when they came to stay with us. We completed construction in 2008, and we hope to live there after we retire. Until that time, we know you will enjoy our cabin and the nostalgic feel of the area as much as we do.

Why Mike and Janice Pryor chose Northwest

Grand Lake is a hidden treasure. It is nestled at the ntrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. Our subdivision of Columbine Lake is a friendly community of quaint cabins surrounding a 45-acre natural lake. Our cabin's back porch is the perfect place for viewing the abundant local wildlife including deer, moose, elk and fox. There's always plenty to do! There are hiking trails, mountain bike terrain, and world-class fishing on the area's lakes and rivers. Take a drive in the alpine tundra above timberline. Have a beer at the historic Grand Lake Lodge. Enjoy a guided pontoon boat tour of Grand Lake. Explore the area on an ATV or on horseback. Winter is a magical time in Grand Lake. There are miles of snowmobile, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails.

What makes this cabin unique

We call it our 'cabin' but it is really a 2,340 square foot luxury home with modern construction and comfort. The custom touches include high-end finishes like include knotty alder cabinetry, granite countertops, slate tile and stainless steel appliances. The 550 square foot kitchen is fully stocked. A large stone fireplace surrounded by rocking chairs sits on one side of the great room and comfy leather couches around a large-screen television is on the other. Choose from two covered decks or a covered porch to enjoy a morning cup of coffee and the mountain views.

Beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

We rented the house for four nights and we didn't want to leave. The pictures don't do it justice and the location is great. It had everything we needed. From the back porch we could watch birds and we saw a buck cross the yard. In the front, we saw a moose (cow) and another day we saw a male moose on the other side of the neighborhood. Perfect location for exploring the park or Grand Lake.

Absolutely amazing!!! This home was phenomenal!!!

  • 5 of 5

From beginning to end, this home was extraordinary!!! The sights were amazing on any of the porches, on ground level, looking across the street or taking a stroll down the street!!! The home itself was spectacular and met and even went above our expectations!!!! This was our first experience at renting a HomeAway and I would definitely do it again!!! Loved, Loved, LOVED!!! No worries about bringing wash rags, towels, toilet paper, paper towel, condiments, spices, games, movies, cards or even laundry detergent!!! Everything was provided!!! Awesome in my book! Thank you for making our experience so wonderful!!!

Better than expected!

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful mountain home is simply wonderful - just as nice and comfortable as advertised. The private Columbine Lake setting is more intimate and secluded than we expected. The views are breathtaking and the home has many fine high-end features. We especially loved the fully stocked gourmet kitchen and the large living room where our family gathered. Mike and Janice, we can see why this is your dream retirement home. Very, very nice!

The Positives are MANY!!

  • 5 of 5

This house is an amazing vacation getaway with many positives!

The layout is perfect for two families (4 parents and 3 children) with the parents able to stay in the two upstairs bedrooms and the children in the bedroom located on the ground floor. The furnishings throughout the house are of high quality and the little touches helped us feel at home. For example, the kitchen was stocked with a good many spices and other cooking supplies. The house has a beautiful view of Columbine lake, and we frequently spotted dear and moose in the neighborhood. We loved the quick access to RMNP. Those of us that wanted to make early morning or late afternoon visits to view wildlife in the Kawuneeche Valley could quickly do so and return back to the house for other planned activities. We also enjoyed the proximity to Grand Lake, which has some neat stores and really good desert shops for that afternoon sweet tooth. Lastly, the owners were great to work with. They always responded timely and professionally. Thank you Janice and Mike.

In short, we have stayed at many VRBO homes over the past few years, and this house ranks among the best! This is your house if you are looking for a really nice, comfortable, family-friendly home with beautiful views and that is conveniently located to RMNP!!

The Perfect Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

This was the most beautiful area we've ever vacationed in. The lovely house offered all the comforts of home in the perfect location. We were also delighted by the wildlife in the area. We daily saw moose and elk right in the neighborhood. We greatly enjoyed the nearby trails and our walk around the lake each evening. We discovered a place right in the neighborhood, located near the water tower, that had a spectacular 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains. By no fault of the owners, we ran into a little snafu upon our arrival, but the owners very promptly took care of the situation. It meant a lot to us to have them so easily accessible and willing to accommodate us. We will definitely recommend this home and this area to others.
