This single family house has been completely renovated in October 2014.
It offers a modern interior and all the amenities for an enjoyable stay, easy access to San Francisco, and a central location in the Bay Area.
The living room offers comfortable seating for up to 8 and a wood-burning fireplace. A large TV and a DVD player with a collection of action and family movies provides plenty of entertainment. Cable TV and Internet/Wifi is included.
The dining area seats 6 to 8 (table can be extended).
The modern kitchen has a fridge/freezer with ice maker, dishwasher, sink with garbage disposal, stove with glass cooktop, large oven, microwave, toaster, and coffeemaker.
The master bedroom suite has a king size bed and 2 large closets; the attached bathroom has double sinks and a walk-in shower with a glass door.
The 2nd bedroom has a queen size bed and a large closet.
The 3rd room has a bunk bed with 2 twin-size mattresses, and also has a desk and a dresser. Please note that the upper bunk bed is not suitable for adults.
The living room has an additional futon sofa (full size) that can sleep 1 or 2.
The attached garage is not available for tenants except for access to the washer and dryer.
A driveway has parking for 2 vehicles, and additional street parking is usually easily available.
The front yard offers a comfortable seating area and is semi-private from the street.
The back yard has outdoor seating and a gas bbq.
The neighborhood is family-oriented; expect occasional sounds of dogs barking or children playing.
The South Shore shopping center is a 3/4 mile away, with plenty of shops and restaurants. The Park Street area is about 2.5 miles away and offers more great restaurants, entertainment, and Alameda's restored Art-Deco movie theatre.
Alameda is a safe and quiet island oasis in the hustle of the SF Bay Area, but offers plenty of entertainment and sight-seeing without leaving the island.
The town is very family-oriented, and has lots of bike lanes and high walkability.
Getting to San Francisco is quick and comfortable - use the ferry (from the Main St terminal), bus (express bus to downtown SF leaves from 2 blocks away), or BART from Oakland.
Getting to the I-880 freeway and the Bay Bridge is quick - driving to downtown SF takes 25-30 minutes outside of rush hour.
The beach is just steps from the house and part of Crown Memorial State Beach. It is about 3 miles long and a favorite of local families during sunny weekends. It offers fantastic wind surfing and kite surfing conditions for beginners and advanced surfers. A surf school and rental shop can be found just a few yards from the house.
Washington Park is just around the corner, offering public tennis courts, playgrounds, basketball courts, and much more.
Owner lives next door - we'll be available for questions and tips for sightseeing and restaurants, but will leave you to your privacy.

We live next door to the property. Originally from Germany, we moved to Alameda in 1999 and are loving this relaxed island city ever since. We are happy to provide tips for an enjoyable stay!
Klaus & Martina purchased this house in 2013
The house is very clean. Owners were very helpful with any info we asked about. Will definitely stay again when back in this area. Thank you for your hospitality!!
Martina and Klaus were very responsive to all inquiries and always very helpful. Their home was comfortable, well appointed, stocked with everything we needed, and the fruit and candy was an extra welcoming touch! Their home was a short walk to the beach, we walked everyday. The location was perfect and we look forward to returning!
This property is clean, comfortable and fully stocked. We enjoyed the convenience of being close to the beach, restaurants and shopping.
This was our second time staying here and we would stay here again in a heartbeat!
The most amazing home away from home! The house is pristine, clean, perfectly organized, comfortable, cozy and overall a perfect place to spend when in Alameda. Anything we looked for was there, from an espresso machine to a clothing rack for drying outside. And would you believe it, I found one thing missing which probably was there but I couldn't find it: a spoon rest by the stove! There are books, games for children, video tapes and CDs and all in perfect condition. We have since been in other VRBO properties where this was not the case. Klaus and Martina you have set the standard to the highest for other VRBO renters to match! We look forward to being with you again next year!
Stayed in this house the middle of June 2016 for 5 nights.
We (family of five) knew by the the VRBO pictures that it was a nice place to stay, but the minute we pulled in the driveway, we were blown away. Walking through the gate (which we're copying at home), there was a beautiful garden with succulents and agave plants. I sat on the patio couch and read several times during our stay. Very peaceful!
Then the house...wow...the living area was decorated with modern, comfortable furniture, big screen TV, fireplace (never used since the weather was perfect) and futon. The immaculate kitchen was well stocked. Having 2 bathrooms was a must for us, one in the master bedroom and one off the hallway. The bathrooms had shampoo, lotion, soap and LOTS of great oversized towels. The bedrooms were quite roomy, with huge closets. AND a washer and dryer! The backyard is just as impressive as the front yard. We sat outside in backyard and ate at the patio table a few times. Everything looked brand new.
The owners, Martina and Klaus are awesome. We were fortunate to meet and talk with them, but they never intruded. Martina gave me great transportation information and places to shop, etc. Even though we had a vehicle, we took the ferry over to the city several times. So easy and affordable. We drove to the ferry station, parked, and boarded the ferry. Beautiful ride too! The beautiful beach was 8 or 9 houses away.
Looking for a great pub/restaurant, try 1400 Pub and Grill. My granddaughter said the chowder was the best she's had since we arrived in the Bay area. Hamburgers were great as was the veggie burger. If you're a beer drinker, try Faction. The brewery is on the island too. The Subpar miniature golf course was fun. Don't be put off that its not fancy; it was quite challenging.
If and when we go back to SF, Alameda is the place to stay and this house is the best!
Thanks to Martina and Klaus for thinking of EVERYTHING for their guests in their beautiful, comfortable house.
