Frost Estate Home at Windcliff: Rocky Mountain National Park Panoramic Views, Hot Tub

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 5 nights

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, Sleeps 8

“Frost” is one of the pinnacle vacation rental homes at Windcliff Estates, a premier residential community of Estes Park, Colorado mountain homes.

Outdoor Living

“Frost” is situated on St. Moritz Trail, a name that conjures visions of pristine Alpine vistas. And, that is precisely the aura that is afforded by “Frost” from its stately perch at 9,000 feet of elevation on the slopes of Ram’s Horn Mountain. The experience is as rare as the air is rarified. One family returning to “Frost” with great expectations has written, “We enjoyed each switchback up to the house --- and then, the big moment --- opening the front door to drink in the view!” And, the view through the western wall of windows is, indeed, spectacular in the extreme.

Spread before you is the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains in Rocky Mountain National Park. Snow-capped peaks compete at poking holes in the sky. The high ridge you see stretching across the horizon before you constitutes America’s western Continental Divide. “Frost” is so privately situated that you can almost believe that the vast domain spread before you is your own private National Park. Walk out onto the western deck (one of three at “Frost”) and a song is soon running around in your head: “I’m sitting on top of the world looking down on Creation…..”

The deck where you are standing has seating for everyone in your entourage, a table for dining, and a gas-grill at the ready. Towering trees caress the house. One protruding branch in your purview is a perfect perch for Colorado birds of every feather to pause and preen. Step across the St. Moritz Trail that conveyed you up to “Frost” and you are entering the 1,271 square miles of Teddy Roosevelt National Forest. The forest is home to deer, elk, bears, mountain lions, and scores of ground critters. You will soon be on speaking terms with many of them as they graze nonchalantly by to have their pictures taken!

Indoor Living

The living room at “Frost” is crowned with a high wooden ceiling crafted of “beetle kill” pine. The beetles that ravished trees in parts of America’s Northwest have produced wood of extraordinary character and the ceiling here salvages and displays that hidden beauty. Recessed lighting dramatically enhances the ceiling’s character by night. Clerestory windows high overhead will welcome morning’s first light. Leather seating set amidst bright area rugs focuses on a wood-burning fireplace. TV (Blu-Ray), a music system, books, and games are all at hand.

Fine art prints reflect the love of the owners for the world out of doors --- and their artistic good taste! And, speaking of “good taste,” the kitchen at “Frost,” in keeping with the high standards of all Windcliff rentals, is intended for use and is prepped accordingly. The name “Bosch” is readily in evidence. Snazzy southwestern tableware is stacked tall in the cupboards. The dining room table comfortably seats eight. Sit at the head of the table and the Tyndall Glacier nestled between Hallett Peak and Flattop Mountain is directly in your field of view.

The spacious master suite at “Frost” features its own balcony and an office.

Downstairs you will find yet another King Suite, two more bedrooms, and a small living area. A west-facing deck harbors a hot tub with a spectacular view into the National Park by day and unto the universe at night.

We can always learn from those who have traveled a path before us. Signed entries in “Frost’s” Guest Book tell a great story:

“‘Frost’ provided everything we could ask for in a vacation home --- comfy beds, well-appointed kitchen, and incredible views.”

“What a special place --- hiking in the Rockies, seeing glaciers, hidden lakes, brilliant sunsets, golden Aspen groves, deer, elk, and towering pines.”

“The sign on the wall reads, ‘If you are lucky enough to be in Colorado, you are lucky enough!’ Add the words --- ‘with friends’ --- and it is complete.”

“I’ve finally discovered ‘true peace’ sitting in this leather arm chair in front of the fire.”

“We certainly appreciate the comfy beds and perfect kitchen. We eat most of our meals in --- actually out on the deck.”

“If you can’t find God in this place, you’re not trying hard enough.”

“‘Frost’ is immaculate, well-stocked, and very comfortable.”

“This is a perfect place. Please include us in your will!”

Frost on your windshield in the winter can be an annoyance. But, put a little “Frost” in your life with a vacation stay in this wonderful mountain home and you will cherish the experience forever.

A SPECIAL CONSIDERATION: Although Estes Park [Rocky Mountain National Park’s gateway community] is only 15 minutes distant by car, you will always feel securely tucked away at “Frost” --- separated from the “hustle and bustle” of people and their traffic. The Windcliff enclave embracing the “Frost” residence is a private residential community comprising 260 acres on the sunny western slopes of Ram’s Horn Mountain. It is served by a single entrance to private roads with no through streets or heavy traffic. It is truly a world apart!

A great experience!

  • 5 of 5

4 teachers celebrating our retirements and long friendships stayed in Frost Aug29-Sept 5, 2015. We were very pleased with the tasteful accommodations, well equipped kitchen, and beautiful views from the deck. The road up to Frost has numerous switchbacks, but once we got used to the climb, we were fine. A doe and her fawn visited our yard each day. One of us choose to sleep in the cave (a small interior room with no windows and the width of a king-size bed) and enjoyed it. At the end of our stay we all agreed that we would rent Frost again and recommend it to others.
