What makes this house unique

Park Point @ Secluded Dunes is magical. It's smaller, tucked away, exclusive and quiet ... While we were building Mare Vista, we'd end the day in a trance listening to the wildlife and watching the twinkling lights of Port St. Joe come into sight as darkness fell, reminding us of our other favorite place, Positano, on the Amalfi coast in Italy.

Beautiful modern home in a natural setting! We felt like it was our second home and will be back.

  • 5 of 5

Mare Vista is located at the end of Cape San Blas Rd. and as soon as we saw the house in the beautiful setting, we knew we had chosen the right place. Our two dogs, who were anxious to get out of the car, were up the stairs ahead of us and the screened in porch proved to be their favorite room. We walked into the open floor plan of the kitchen, dining/living room and I knew one week was not going to be enough time. The high ceilings, windows and lovely, modern furnishings were our taste exactly. The four bedrooms are all spacious and each of the four bathrooms are clean and modern. It was just the four of use (2 canines with their 2 humans) but the design of this house would provide space and privacy for a group of friends or a large extended family gathering. Everything was provided except the food. The bottle of wine, dog bowls and treats in the sand pail was an adorable extra. The swim spa is fabulous in the downstairs area and having the outdoor shower was wonderful to use after spending the day on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. This was total serenity for us. When was the last time you heard the sound of waves, bullfrogs at night, birds in the morning, the smell of sea salt and nothing at all? All in the comfort of a fabulous home? We could not remember the last time but now we know it was too long and we will not make that mistake again. The wifi worked perfectly but we both logged into work once and then spent the rest of the time off the grid. Thank you Dana and Steve for providing such a perfect haven.

Tucked away on Cape San Blas

  • 3 of 5

I love the lay out of the house. It's very open but each bedroom feels private. Location is very convenient to the state park which is the "gem" of the Cape. The house is not very conducive to real small children or anyone that has a problem with stairs. There are 2 flights to climb every time you leave. Children under 4 just about have to be carried.

Garbage cans are almost unmanageable, particularly opening and closing.

The grill should be on the second level.

I would recommend this house for 3 or 4 couples. It would be a blast!

Owner's Response: To Future Guests: We have received two four star ratings and 31 five star reviews since we opened Mare Vista to Cape San Blas. One of the four stars was because the guest didn't like the Cape (it was their first trip and he wanted more to do). We've never received a three star and are very bothered by it. The reasons: there were steps, the garbage cans weren't easy to open (they're animal proof and provided by the Waste Pro, our trash company) and the guests didn't like where the new gas grill we provided was located. Practically every home on the Cape has steps and ours are designed for easier access than most. We are asking for some new outside garbage cans and we will be happy to move the grill around if you ask! We asked the guest to reconsider but he didn’t respond. The request we sent him is below. Please read the other 30+ reviews to get a true picture of our facility and our service. Dana and Steve Langford Dear Walter: We are devastated by the three star rating you gave us. That is the heart of our rental business and we work very hard to earn good ratings. The review sounded almost as if you were angry with us. Every house on the Cape has stairs. Mare Vista was designed with the landing to make climbing them easier. The family at Mare Vista the week before had a three year old handicapped child in a wheel chair and gave us a five star review. We've had hundreds of small children stay there and not one mention of stairs. The grill is in the screened area so bugs don't bother you. We would have happily moved it upstairs if you'd asked. The trash cans are what we're given by the garbage company, designed to keep animals out. We were thoughtful enough to allow your boat in the garage and to allow you to park the trailer that carried the huge extra vehicle on our neighbor's lot, even though you didn’t ask if we allowed them. Three stars indicate lousy service and poorly maintained facilities. Neither are correct in our case. Nothing negative was mentioned during your stay and Dana had a nice conversation with you on departure. Still not a word. We are flabbergasted. We would have done most anything you asked. Quality Vacation Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This vacation home exceeded our expectations. Even though it rained 3 days during our stay there was plenty to do to relax including playing games on the screened in porch, lounging in the hot tub/lap pool, grilling food, etc. The golf cart we rented from the owners gave us easy access to the beach boardwalk (you can't drive it on the beach). The beach itself is private to the homes nearby so it was never crowded. The sand is white and the water is blue on a clear day. Every day we had waves for the kids to surf on their boogie boards and we think they are larger there due to it being further out in the Gulf. We set up our tent in the morning and then came and went back to the house as need be. The beach fishing was excellent! We caught five whiting, several catfish, a jack, and a small thresher shark fishing with Fish Bites packaged bate you can buy at the nearby bate and tackle store. Their are several small mom and pops nearby that sell everything you will need though we did make a trip to Port St. Joe to stock up on food for the week. One place sells micro brews from the nearby Oyster Brewing CO and I recommend the Mangrove brew very highly! Our dealings with the owners was very pleasant and they were available to answer questions and even arranged to replace our propane tank for the grill when it ran out. The interior is modern (as seen in pictures) and the layout of the home worked well with plenty of storage in each room to "move in" for the week. We loved this home and this vacation and plan to return in the future!

Owner's Response: Matt, It was wonderful meeting you and your family. We are so glad you had a great stay with us and we agree with everything you said. It's wonderful living here in "paradise". Scallop Republic is our newest local venue with live music.....and I agree, the Mangrove is my favorite. We look forward to having your family again. Sincerely, Dana and Steve

We loved the house and its layout . We spent each morning having coffee on the beautiful screened in porch. The beach was very private and we enjoyed it every day. The pool was great for a quick swim, too! We were very happy with our vacation at Mare Vista!

Cape San Blas
Car: necessary

Cape san blas has its own worry-free character with miles of shell-strewn shoreline and countless opportunities for quiet adventures.

Cape san blas is a 17-mile long barrier peninsula, curving around st. Joseph bay offering playful surf and white sand beaches on the gulf side and smooth, shallow water on the bay side. The cape is known for its clear, sometimes blue, sometimes green water and low, gentle surf. Families who vacation on the cape choose this spot for both its beauty and its seclusion. Drag a chair to the beach with a book, throw a line to the surf, or comb the shore for treasures. Scattered with shells, the sand in this quiet paradise is super soft and sparkling white.

Tired of relaxing? Peddle, walk or jog along loggerhead run bike trail for a different view. Browse through eclectic beach stores, cool off with some ice cream or grab a few pounds of bay shrimp to steam while you watch the sun go down.

Looking for something more adventurous? Local outfitters will get you rigged. Horseback riding is available on the beach and guided tours are offered daily. Canoe, kayak and sailboat rentals are available as well as diving, snorkeling and eco-excursions.

Take the time to explore the bay. Wade through grassy flats, kayak with your kids and glide above two feet of water for miles. The clear, shallow water offers hours of safe play and discovery for little ones as well as adults. Sand dollars, starfish, scallops and schools of colorful fish are fun to find... Ten times more fun with a snorkel and mask!

Mare vista is at the tip of cape san blas adjacent to st. Joseph peninsula state park, home of america’s #1-ranked beach and america’s best state park!

Recognized as perhaps the most popular outdoor destination in the entire florida state park system. With miles of sugar-white sand beaches, striking coastal dune formations, nature trails, picnic areas, playground, 119 family camp sites, youth camping area, boat ramp, 1,900 acre wilderness preserve and more... It’s not hard to imagine why.

Hiking, walking and nature viewing is enjoyable on the two nature trails and 14 mile hiking trail through the wilderness preserve for you to explore and observe the various wildlife and plant communities. Many varieties of birds, mammals, and plants inhabit the park. White-tailed deer are the most observed, but bobcats, raccoons, otters, and alligators can be seen.

The excellent fishing opportunities for sea trout, redfish, flounder, pompano and whiting attract many fishermen to the area. Come during scallop season (july 1 - september 24) and catch your own bay scallops; it is great family fun and our bay scallops are some of the most delicious things you will ever eat!

If you want to relax and do nothing, check out eagle harbor. It is a popular hang-out area of the park with boat launch, small store with essentials, water toy rentals like kayaks, and one of the coolest viewpoints in all of gulf county! Walk up the boardwalk and take in the 360-degree view of st. Joseph bay on one side and the clear waters of the gulf beach on the other side. Both are great spots to put up your umbrella and let the kids play in the water.
