Charming Craftsman style 3 bedroom 3 bath close to ocean and near to ft. bragg

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,600 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

3 Bedroom 3 bath craftsman home on 1.3 acres. 1 mile to nearest beach.

This is a 15 year old custom built home that has the homey architectural feel of the Craftsman style. There are brand-new wood tile floors throughout the main living area and brand new carpet in all bedrooms and upstairs. The two bedrooms upstairs have beautifully lofted ceilings for an open feel. There are plenty of windows so it is light and airy inside.

Our home is located about 1.5 mile southeast of the Hwy 1 and Hwy 20 intersection. This location makes it easy to drive to Ft. Bragg for shopping, beaches and activities if you head north and to Casper, Cabrillo lighthouse and the Village of Mendocino if you turn south.

The house has a spacious kitchen and nice open floor plan with a large private patio and BBQ. The patio has plenty of outdoor seating and a table for outdoor dining. The front porch has seating also and is a great place to catch the morning sun.

The bedrooms and bathrooms have quality bedding, comforters and towels. We can handle 2-4 more quests ( prefer them to be children) than the 3 beds accommodate - on air mattresses. You must supply the air mattress although there are extra linens for your use (Queen and Twin). Our garage is a private space and is unavailable for use. Home has washer/ dryer and dishwasher. TV/VCR available, Dish Network and a Radio and CD player. Internet is available on property. Pets are welcome downstairs with a deposit.

The property is 1.1 acres and fenced (although not to keep a pet in line) It is large and flat with seasonal lawn on 2 sides and a natural area in the back - great for kids to run around.

The fireplace has presto logs supplied and you can burn real wood if you provide it. The two upstairs bathrooms have large soak tubs.

About Mara Welker

Growing up in the central valley town of Davis, a trip to the ocean was a special treat. My Mother loved the beach so we spent many a weekend at different locations. We played - she read. As a kid I never understood how whe could sit and read while we ran around. Lets just say I do now! Upon finishing college I moved to the inland town of Willits, where I raised my children and have now been living there for 37 years.

Mara Welker purchased this house in 2005

Why Mara Welker chose Fort Bragg

My family purchased this property after our Mothers death as a place for us to gather and enjoy the Sea. With my Moms love of the ocean instilled in us it seemed appropriate to create a family space for us to share that gave us access to good seaside times. This house and property was our choice.

What makes this house unique

The minute we saw this home we knew this was the spot. We love the quiet location, large lot and asthetic look. The old fashioned theme of the home was a draw and we love all the modern ammentitis.

It is nice to be near the ocean (about 1 mile) yet still have lots of sun. We also find it handy to be so close to town (approx 1 mile) with all of its markets, stores, and restaurants.

Lovely home!

  • 5 of 5

Three lady friends and I planned a "girls' trip" to the coast and stayed two nights at this property in Ft. Bragg. We'd talked about getting two rooms in a hotel, but am so glad we found this home. It's charming, fully furnished, immaculately clean, has all we needed, and the owner Mara was a pleasure to work with and very accommodating to our needs. We would stay there again if we go back to that area! Oh, and we finally saw the neighbor's bassett hound, Lucy, on the morning we were leaving. We all love dogs, she was sweet.

Exceeded my expectations!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I wanted to spend the Christmas holiday in an area outside the Bay Area. We booked this house in Ft. Bragg and it definitely exceeded my expectations!

The house was nice and warm when we arrived, which was a pleasant surprise for an outside temperature to be around 48 degrees.

The kitchen was very well equipped, even with appliances we didn't get a chance to use.

The owner supplied firewood for the fireplace, which with the LED candles help to provide a very comfortable and cozy atmosphere as we did puzzles, played games or watched TV.

The house was very clean from top to bottom!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend it to others!

Beautiful home with everything you could need!

  • 5 of 5

I booked this home with two other couples as we were in town for a wedding. The experience could not of been any easier. I booked through the iPhone app and had a response from Mara within minutes. Not only was she prompt in responding she was kind enough to suggest near by restaurants and activities to enjoy in Fort Bragg. When we arrived at the home, we were in awe as it was beautiful inside and out. It was truly stocked with everything we needed for our trip. We loved how cozy this home felt! Thank you Mara for opening your beautiful for home to us and the great service and comfort you provided us along our entire stay! This home is a must book!!!

Week away for wedding

  • 5 of 5

It was our first time to visit this area of California. The house was very comfortable and had every amenity one could ask for. Mara was very responsive and we would have been happy to meet her but didn't.

The highlight of the house was the chicken / hen that visited and begged! The family staying before us named her "RePecca" and nicknamed her "Pecky"! Very appropriate as she loved the breadcrumbs we put out. She was great entertainment!

There are so many great things to do on our coast.

The Skunk Train is an excursion train (both diesel and Steam) that winds through the redwoods along the Noyo River to the destination of Northspur which is part way to Willits. There are open and closed cars so your ride will be comfortable no matter what the weather. Many specialized excursions are done seasonally. Check their scedule.

The Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens is a true gem. Its 47 acres go from Hwy 1 to the oceans edge. It is located about 1.5 miles south of Hwy 20 in Ft. Bragg. There is a seasonal restaurant plus plants for sale. At Christmas time the Festival of Lights is located there with the front part of the garden lit in beautiful and fanciful lights. Don't miss rhododendron and Dalia Seasons!!

Village of Mendocino- Quaint historic village with numerous shops, restaurants, and galleries. There is a wonderful walk from town north along the Mendocino Headlands State Park.

Van Damme State Park - Hiking and a cove for diving, snorkeling and kyacking.

Russian Gulch State Park - Ocean access and hike to an all season waterfall

Jughandle State Park - Ocean access and geological staircase hike.

Casper State Beach - Protected cove great for beginning surfers, kyackers. Great beach for kids.

Big River State Park - Good river for canoeing and Kyacking. Beautiful long beach accessible from the village of Mendocino.

MacKerricher State Park - Boardwalk trail to whale and sea lion watching and tide pools. The Haul road trail runs through it.

Glass beach is a unique beach that one time was a garbage dump. Although this sounds horrible it is really quiet pretty and interesting. In the cliffs are bits of twisted metal and the beach is coated with polished sea glass. Please look but don't take home. It is located on the north end of town.

Pt. Cabrillo lighthouse is a lighthouse built in 1908 that is still used today. From the parking lot to the lighthouse is a .5 mile walk but it is paved and gentle. Well worth the walk. There is a great museum and gift shop with other displays as well.

The Ft Bragg Haul Road is a leftover from bygone days when logging trucks used to haul logs up and down the coast on their own road. Today it is a asphalt/gravel road that is for bikes and hikers. It is mostly flat so is great for a family bike excursion but still enjoyable for more serious riders. The views of the ocean are spectacular. The road goes from several miles north of McKerricher State Park all the way to Noyo Harbor on the south edge of Ft. Bragg.

Bikes can be rented at Catch a Canoe just south of the Village of Mendocino and Ft, Bragg Cyclery.
