About Linda Crouse

During the first 2 years we spent a lot of time and money having this house transformed to become our sweet little cottage. It's no longer the sad neglected mess it was when I bought it in the spring of 2009. I fell in Love with this area in the late 80's and I even spent my honeymoon in Grand Haven at The Harbor House. In 2004 we bought our family cottage right on Spring Lake and every year we welcomed many family members and friends as our guests. They loved coming to the Tri-Cities area so much that often we would be hosting family and friends at the same time. In 2009 we had the opportunity to buy this abandon cottage that had been so neglected over the years, but we thought it had potential. We also knew we would have no problem renting it out in the summer months... and so it began.

Linda Crouse purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Linda Crouse chose Spring Lake

Believe me when I say the renovation on this 1940's house was an act of love, sweat and tears. In the beginning there were the nay-sayers... my sister-in-law said she would never stay there, another friend said we should tear it down and rebuild because it would be less work, the neighbors were glad to see the eye sore of the street evolve into a cute, quaint, and charming cottage. Not only has my sister-in-law stayed as a guest several times, she even brought her family who were visiting from Belgium last year. And in only 3 seasons we have already welcomed friends or family members that were referrals from 5 different neighbors. Now that's a compliment!

Very clean, updated property within walking distance to Lakeside Beach

  • 4 of 5

This property is small, but perfect for our family of 5. It is an old lake home that has been nicely updated and includes all modern amentities. My children loved the trundle beds in the 2 bedrooms, we enjoyed sitting outside in the evenings on the deck. You can walk to Lakeside Beach, which is a public beach on Spring Lake, to the Village Baker which has wonderful pastries, breakfast, lunch and dinner and take out including pizza, The Front Porch which makes their own Ice Cream and Rite Aid. We also visited Orchard Market and they had a nice selection of grocery items and a good local beer selection. Bikes are available with the cottage, although we didn't use them due to having a 3 year old and not bringing a bike carrier. There is a bike trail that is 12 miles and takes you around Spring Lake or you can ride into Grand Haven. The bike trail is just at the end of the road from the cottage and we walked in it to get to The Village Baker and The Front Porch (there is a small path cut through to get there).

Grand Haven State Park and North Beach Park are both a short drive from the cottage. We recommend North Beach as it is less crowded and very family oriented. We were in Grand Haven during Coast Guard week and did watch the parade of Coast Guard ships, which was cool, but we stayed away from the crowds the rest of the week. Holland and Saugatuck, MI are both a short drive from Spring Lake and we enjoyed visiting both those towns. Our best meal of the week was at Top Cat which is in Grand Rapids, which is also a short drive from Spring Lake. We visited the Children's Museum in Grand Rapids which was perfect for a rainy day.

Overall we had a nice stay and my kids are begging to go back!

Cozy Cottage with Charm

  • 5 of 5

This was a very nice cottage with all of the supplies you need in the kitchen and places to sit and visit. The yard was nice with a shaded deck. We hope to return next year as my daughter and her 3 children loved it all. Short walk to the little beach was no problem either. Thanks for a great little rental!

Perfect spot for family fun

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for two weeks in June/July. It proved to be a great space to enjoy boating on Spring Lake, shopping in Grand Haven, hiking trails in the parks along Lake Michigan, and spending time at the beaches. We hosted two sets of family and the house accommodated us quite well. We used the bikes that came with the house, cooked on the grill, relaxed on the deck and enjoyed many an evening on the screened-in porch. The house is just up the hill from the lake and 3 blocks from the beautiful rails-to-trails path that can be taken into Grand Haven or out into the country.

Perfect location and very comfy home!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was the perfect location. It's walking distance to spring lake for fishing or swimming. It is close to Grand Haven and all of the shops, beaches and events. Plus, it's a quiet location to sleep/nap or to hike or bike on the trails. The house is comfy and sweet. I would rent this again!

The picture-perfect summer cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved this adorable cottage and have already reserved it for next summer! It reminded my husband and I so much of the cottages that each of our families owned in the 50's when we were growing up! It is so homey and inviting and it far exceeds a fancy condo or sleek showplace any day! From the moment we first walked in, it felt like “home” and everything was immaculate and organized in such a way that we had no trouble finding everything we needed! The bedrooms were delightful and our bed and bedding were the best! The quality of everything the owner installed in the renovation is remarkable as well as all the kitchen accouterments! The dishes, utensils, cooking and serving dishes were definitely NOT garage-sale castoffs but top of the line! And it goes without saying that Lorie's decorating is a major part of the overall charm and ambiance of what in our mind is the perfect cottage! Another bonus is that the cottage is located in a friendly, quiet neighborhood just a short walk from the beach! We can't wait to get back next summer!
