We settled right in and totally enjoyed the manatees in the canal, an osprey that loved sitting near the dock for hours! We even had the Easter bunny under the patio! Carl, the manager, was very helpful and quick to respond to questions about the area. The house is very well furnished with everything you need. Just bring clothes and food! The backyard is fenced which worked out well for our dog. Dock is plenty ample if you have a boat or rent one. I totally recommend this property if you like peace and quiet. Only traffic were a few boats! We will definitely come back!
House was nice. Needs some maintenance, especially the landscape but it was nice.
Weather didn't cooperate for using the pool, but it was great watching the manatees and birds in the canal. The accommodations were great. WiFi was very spotty so be prepared to use your data.
nice home on water with pool and open plan and close to restaurants
pleasant place to stay
We were comfortable and would rent this property again. The pool was great.
Be sure to take trash bags and toilet paper. If you plan to cook, take favorite spices with you. Otherwise, we had everything we needed.
We were there in late May and early June. The canal water was already quite warm. Except for one small Jack, all we caught were catfish on our live shrimp. Lures were not effective. One might do better with live "white bait" (pilchards, shad, etc.) if you can find any. We went out one day with local guide and caught (and released) 11 nice Snook. Fish are definitely there but you need a boat. The house boat lift is not available for use.
The owners allow use of their gas grill but we passed. It looked like it had never been cleaned. It was easier to use our own George Foreman grill.
The A/C was out when we arrived but our rental agent (Carl Jervis) acted immediately and had it fixed within 2 hours (and that was on a Saturday evening).
We enjoyed ourselves and were able to get some much needed rest and relaxation. If we had to single out one aspect of our stay that was exceptional, it was the silence. 99% of the time only the birds could be heard. We heard only one emergency vehicle siren in two weeks. That was a blessing!
A great two weeks
Really enjoyed our stay. The place was neat, clean and such a quiet location. We enjoyed two weeks, rented a boat and used the boat dock. The bbq needs to be replaced as the burners had multiple holes, so a little challenge to cook but ultimately we succeeded. That was a little bit of a disappointment but overall we really enjoyed our stay here an recommend. C&J
Great place for a get away!
All the conveniences needed for a vacation. Easy access to fishing, of which we did a lot of. Once back in, a swim in the pool was just what was needed. A great screened room on the back to sit and enjoy an evening adult beverage. Lots of room for 4 adults inside, without running into each other. Clean and stocked with everything you need except food. DO IT!!
St James City on Pine Island is old Florida. No high-rises or stop lights here, but lots of things to see and do. While St James City offers passive enjoyment and relaxation, it is also a great place for interactivity and exploration. This vacation home has water access to Gulf of Mexico. Fishing- Great fishing everywhere! Hire a guide for a few days to learn local hotspots, baits and lures, then take off on your own. One of our favorite spots is the Redfish Pass area north of Captiva Island. To the north is Cayo Costa, accessible only by boat with un-crowded white sand beaches, camping ,shelling ,treking and surf fishing. Some of the best fishing in the world for Trout, Snook, Redfish, Snapper, Cobia, Tarpon, King Mackerel and Grouper. Less than 1 hour by water to the Boca Grande Tarpon Tournament. Enjoy kayaking in the sheltered local back-waters or in the Pine island Sound, Tarpon Bay in the Ding Darling Preserve, or kayak by the full moon or hit Matlacha at sunset. Have a 'Cheeseburger in Paradise' on Cabbage key which inspired the song. Every square inch of the interior is papered with $1 bills and more than $10,000 which fall off every year is donated to charity. Mango Mania: Pine Island is home to the Mango Mania Tropical Fruit Festival every July. The island also commercially grows guavas, longans, lychees, sapodillas, jak fruit and a variety of other rare fruits you can pick up at local fruit stands. Dig a lost civilization: Join archeologists from the University of Florida (Go Gators!) Museum of Natural History as they excavate or do a Saturday tour of the Randall Research Center, Pineland and its Calusa Indians settlement, mound and canal system. Visit the 'fishingest bridge in the world' in Matlacha. Tour the arts and crafts shops and catch local artists at work. This tiny Technicolor village is reminiscent of Key West in the 50's. Fresh seafood right off the boat. Several excellent restaurants.
