Perfect home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Tucked away in the quiet little village of Allenspark, this cozy place was the perfect beginning and end to every day of my vacation. Multiple places to sit and read/relax outside as well as inside. Going to sleep each night with the creek's lullaby accompanied by the wind in the pines and doesn't get much better than that. Thanks to Jack and Desra for sharing their home.

Great get away place!

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time at this well supplied cabin. It has a creek running through the back that was fun to fish and explore around. It is very rustic but comfortable and kind of hidden away from things, which we enjoyed. It is close enough to Estes Park to go there for a fun day too. Overall, we would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in a more remote area. There were good eating places nearby. The owners were great hosts and very friendly and helpful.

Let's Keep It Our SECRET!

  • 5 of 5

Tucked away in the quaint town of Allenspark is a beautifully manicured cabin, which includes a soaking tub for all those ladies who desire to soak away the stress they left behind. We missed out on seeing the wildlife, but hear could hear it across the mountain. The hosts are excellent individuals to work with. For those coming with multiple family members, there is another cabin just next door, which would make a great place for a family reunion when one combines the two cabins. The babbling brook, was my favorite feature. However, a short trot to the left of the property's highest point is the 2nd best feature. There is seating available, allowing one to view the mountainside in its splendor, with one, two or more.

Very nice!!

  • 5 of 5

Only three nights and gone most all the time each day, but it was wonderful to return each evening to a cozy and comfortable bed. Wish we would have had more time to relax and enjoy the comfy cabin and creek, but as it were, we needed at place close by for the evenings, and this was the perfect spot. It was clean, warm and homey - a blessing for us during our granddaughter's beautiful wedding. Thank you ----

Restful Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We found a perfect mixture of solitude and community interaction. The cabin is somewhat secluded from the rest of the town. However, it is also close enough that you can walk there. The owners are both helpful and friendly. We benefitted from their knowledge of the mountains, but were also included in a 4th of July Party that they had at their main cabin. The cabin was spacious and well prepared for guests. Needless to say, we had a great time!

Quiet Cabin in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful small, rustic cabin that can easily accommodate a a family. Plenty of room inside and out. The decor is wonderful - lots of little details EVERYWHERE (be sure to snope around to see what is hiding, say, on top of a door way). I love the fact there is no wifi/cell service - nice and quiet but plenty to do. Enjoy the outside sitting areas or nice close hiking or mountain bike areas or a few minutes drive to several Rocky Mountain NP access areas. Great owners who make you feel welcome and provide great aids/notes on what you can do and where things are. Will definitely return again and again!

About Desra McDonald

Friends and family have poured countless hours into cleaning and refurbishing

this cabin to make it what you see today. Great care has been put into the property by these fine people to fix things big (electric, dry walling, plumbing) and small (spring on the back door, little feet under the refrigerator) and all has been worked on out of hearts of love.

Back in the day, we started a road trip find the best places ever

for what we would call, "fish & camp"adventures. Gradually over the years, we found ourselves returning to the rockies where we decided our "fish and camp" adventures needed a headquarters....and what a better home base than an authentic log cabin to call home while you explore and experience all there is to do in this gorgeous place we call our backyard, the Rocky Mountains!

Desra McDonald purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Desra McDonald chose Allenspark

We've named the rooms and many property features after all the fine role models and mentors in our lives. You'll learn more about them when you stay with us.

Our Promise...

is to provide a memorable place where you and your family can experience an adventure of a lifetime!

What makes this cabin unique

Nothing like sitting on the back deck listening to the sounds of the creek while you read a book and drink hot chocolate in the morning; nothing like building a tent out of a sheet and some sticks so you can picnic and color with your kids on a sunny afternoon by the creek; nothing like listening to and watching all the hummingbirds of Allenspark swirl around the birdfeeders; nothing like watching chippy (this is who we call our resident chipmunk, and all his family members) scurry around the big pine tree and sit beside you on the front porch.

There is just something about staying in a real log cabin on a creek that evokes the spirit of adventure. As Del Gue from the movie Jeramiah Johnson once said, "these here (the rocky mountains) is god’s finest sculpturins...I'll be a mountain man until the day i die."

Let the adventures begin!

This charming mountain town of Allenspark is full of year around residents as well as seasonal cabins. You can see other cabins from your cabin and are on your own full acre of creekside property with views of the creek, pine, aspen and mountain to enjoy.

"In town" you'll find a fresh water spring to load up water bottles en route to all your activities, the Meadow Mt Cafe serving up memorable breakfasts and lunches, Distant Harbors gift and antique store. You can also enjoy various activities at The Old Gallery...from yoga to soup supers on Tuesday nights, local art for sale or classes, you are welcome to stop by and see what is going on here, by the fire station.

Allenspark's hallmark is that we are surrounded by Roosevelt National Forest, abounding in trails for hiking or running / mountain biking / 4x4 / snowshoeing / cross country skiing. Enjoy Ski Rd., Trail 932, Allenspark Trail, Bunce School Rd. to name a few.

There are a number of annual events that make Allenspark special: The 4th of July Parade

(which will go right by the cabins, a total stitch), Run Like the Wind 5k trail foot race also in July, and

June is full of musical plays at The Old Gallery.

Not far, you can still Go Explore so much more! See my website and the Go Explore tab for many of our ideas and links to our favorite spots.
