A Christmas paradise
Rented the house from the 24th of December through the 28th and it was a fairytale Christmas. The house itself was absolutely gorgeous and well kept.. The owners had thought of everything ...we were very comfortable there.... surroundings are also gorgeous... the views of the lake and although we were snowed in, the snow covered trees, the frozen lake...all just so beautiful. We even saw around 50 swans on Christmas Day on the lake. We are so grateful for the opportunity to have stayed at such a wonderful place. We did make great memories there. I wholeheartedly recommend this house, this property to anyone for any event or just to hang out together. The space in the house is very conducive to being together or being able to seek some quiet space for a time. We had 7 college grandchildren wirh us and two toddler great granandchildren. And there were things to do for all of them...play pool or video gamrs, or hang out togerther in their own space. Ltitle sat at their toddler table...furnished in the house and had plenty of room to roam. I want also to add that while it was record-breaking snow falls this year and there was a lot of snow on the property, the snow removal service sent by the owners was there to allow us to leave to get to a movie ...was really above and beyond our expectations as they also removed the snow promptly when we were ready to go and before we came back they had removed it again so that we always had a clear path. The owners are extraordinary ...really accommodating in every way. Very young or old...and in between every family member echoes my sentiments...It was a very special holiday.
Again we are so grateful to VRBO and of course the owners for making it all possible.
We hope to come again next Christmas.
Absolutely gorgeous!! Immaculately clean and accommodating in EVERY WAY. Wonderful owners, too! We just loved it and we'll be back next year!
Slice of heaven
A group of long time friends rented this beautiful property. We are seven couples so its difficult to find enough bedrooms for each couple to have their own room with some privacy. This house worked well in that respect. And plenty of bathrooms to boot! Mary Beth was readily available for a small issue when we checked in only because it was our mistake trying to enter through the wrong door. Rental reservations were handled efficiently and Mary Beth quickly answered some questions we had regarding supplies and amenities on site. The huge porch facing the lake is perfect for gathering.
Amazing place for a large group!
When you rent a vacation home you always hope that it will be at least half as nice as the photos portray it. The Chautauqua Lake Estate far exceeded our expectations. We were a group of 27 peace and social justice activists having an autumn reunion after many years of not seeing each other. We could not have picked a better place to gather. The house is enormous. It is initially easy to get a little lost it is so big. There were plenty of very comfortable bedrooms for all, and plenty of bathrooms. The mattresses are great and bedding and linens are of very nice quality. We understood from some people who stopped by that it had been recently renovated. It is a very well-done renovation with lots of attention to detail.
There are two kitchens (one large and one small) that give you two refrigerators, three ovens, two dishwashers and lots of food prep room for cooking for a crowd. The flexibility of the space was perfect. While there are places for a whole large group to gather (in the dining room with some table extensions and in the huge living room), there are also so many places for small conversational circles to gather, both inside and outside. Night owls staying up late to talk did not keep up those who were early to bed and the early birds did not keep up those trying to sleep in. The wrap around porch with fabulous views of the lake and multiple seating circles was incredible on a fall weekend with beautiful weather.
Before we arrived, the owners were so very responsive to any questions that we had, and while we did not need to reach them during our stay, we knew that they were only a quick phone call away.
This house is a perfect venue for reunions of family and friends and it would be a great place for corporate/workplace retreats. It was important for our gathering that we be able to cook together and eat together and to also have that mix of small conversations and whole group meeting. If we had designed the venue ourselves we could not have done better. There are very few places that can accommodate large groups, and even fewer that provide such a beautiful, comfortable, welcoming space.
Perfect setting for family reunion.
From the spacious home interior, gorgeous sunrises looking out over the lake, the water sports and various places to gather, to the fireside chats in the evening, this home was the perfect setting for our family reunion. There were 21 of us, and we still had beds to spare. The owners were very helpful in making sure our week went smoothly. Most of our family lives within a couple of hours away so we were able to bring a lot of toys for the week to make it extra special. The home provides kayaks but we brought down a water ski boat , seaplane for rides over the lake, jet skis, paddle boards, bocce set to add to the activities. Boat and skis were easy to dock. My 91 year old mother and step dad were in heaven with their private living space, which included their own kitchen and living room and large tv, to have the ability to be part of the group and also close off the louder times of the party when needed. There are about 5 steps down from the main kitchen to their pad which were no problem for the family to help them up to the main floor and activities. As the house is on a bluff with a long flight of stairs leading down to the water, the alternate path that is drive-able for a SUV worked perfect for her.
A few tips to enhance the experience:
The house is a bit noisy, so if you're the first to go to bed, bring your earplugs and turn on the fan (they are provided and in most of the bedrooms) to drown out the noise of late night partyers. The water is safe for drinking, but if particular about taste, bring lots of bottled water or buy some at the general store a few minutes down the road. You can get some firewood bundles at road side stands for the fire pit. If your rental is late summer like ours was, don't plan on swimming off the shore as the lake has seaweed and algae problems at time of year. Bring some warmer clothes for cool evenings so you are able to enjoy night fireside gatherings. And don't forget the bug spray -- bugs weren't terrible, but they were present.
The size of this lovely older home was perfect for the 15 of us with rooms to spare.
We could hang out together both inside and out with room to get away from it all as well. Highly recommend for large extended families. Swimming not the best but our time together was precious and very much enjoyed by all. Thank you, Mary Beth and family.
