About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, Sleeps 4

Commencement View Cottage built in 1910 is a completely renovated house with commanding views of Commencement Bay in Tacoma.

This house was renovated with the traveler in mind.

The cottage feature 1 bedroom with a high quality queen mattress and another bedroom with a high quality comfortable full size futon. One can also sleep on the roll-away single bed or the single fold away bed. There is one renovated bathroom with all of the amenities like a make up mirror, shampoo, conditioner, toiletries, scale, curling iron. The bathroom entry is through the master bedroom.

Enjoy the amazing views from all 3 decks. Views are to be had from the eat-in kitchen. The large from deck has a table and chairs, sofa and two comfortable chairs and a couple rocking chairs as well.

Invite your friends over for a BBQ and enjoy the plants and statuary in the garden. The front porch has comfortable Adirondack chairs and offers views of Mount Rainier when visible. The back deck is very private and offers one of the best views in Tacoma, from the Cascade Mountains to the Olympics, Vashon and Maury Island, and the Browns Point Lighthouse. You will be amazed at the unobstructed view from the back deck. Enjoy lounging in comfortable deck furniture as you watch the boats and cargo ships that use the sound every day. The scenery is constantly changing and even when raining you will have wonderful views. In the summer enjoy the sailboats and watch or enjoy a para sail.

Commencement Cottage is located just a 7 minute walk down to the Commencement Bay Waterfront. From there you can walk, bike, or rollerblade for miles on Ruston Way and go out to eat in the many fabulous restaurants on the waterfront. Just a short 5 mile drive on Ruston Way and you have Point Defiance Park a 702 acre park that is home to the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, Fort Nisqually, Vashon Island Ferry, 5 mile drive, hiking trails, tennis, boating, fishing, and beautiful forests to explore. The cottage is quick 5 minute drive to the cute Proctor and 6th Avenue districts, and a 5 minute drive to downtown.

Old town established in 1869 is a short 7 minute walk from the cottage and features restaurants as well. I have a house manual with local activities to enjoy and menus for the Restaurants in Old Town and on Ruston Way waterfront. Commencement View Cottage is located on the very quiet street of North 31st and is set back off of the street so enjoy the peacefulness of this location.

The house is set up with everything needed for you and your guests. Feel free to use my tableware (china, napkins, tablecloths, glassware) for your entertaining. There is plenty of parking. We are one block from the bus line.

Enjoy all of the amenities of our house including: BBQ, dishwasher, washer/dryer, toiletries board games, WII, Digital t.v. (40 channels), movies, and DVD;s, large chess/checker set, stereo, iron, bath scale, crib, highchair, picnic supplies, linens, and dishes for entertaining, pans, spices and oils so you can feel comfortable cooking in our new kitchen with gas appliances.

It may be dreary outside, but it is always beautiful here.

I do not rent out my cottage for parties and it is located a quiet upscale neighborhood. No smoking. Dogs upon my approval with a fee.

About Angela Sienda

I am an outside sales representative by trade. My hobbies are fixing up old houses, gardening, sport fencing and of course vacation rentals.

Angela Sienda purchased this house in 2012

Why Angela Sienda chose Tacoma

When I saw this property I had to have it. The view is intoxicating and when you stay here you will see why. It needed extensive renovation on the decks and interior. It was renovated for use as a vacation rental. I love coming to visit and have tried to make it the best possible for travelers.

What makes this house unique

The house is from 1910 and was originally a mill workers house. The interior walls are tongue and groove cedar so it is super quiet. It is set far back from the road so it is very peaceful. The gardens are a blend of old and new and the house and gardens are functional and beautiful. I have all 5 stars on another vacation site and I have many return guests.

The perfect cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We were thrilled with the house. Very quaint cottage with an amazing flower garden. The house was exceptionally clean and whether you stay one day or a month, it is so well equipped. The view was spectacular and we spent a lot of time on the back patio enjoying the beautiful bay. Thank you for providing us with such a special place while we were in your area celebrating a graduation.

Stunning views, great location

  • 4 of 5

Though the weather was not so cooperative, we loved staying at this house overlooking Old Town and the Bay. The beds were comfortable, and the kitchen has everything you could possibly need during your stay. The new gas fireplace in the living room makes everything oh so cozy. The location makes it easy to get to the Proctor area, Old Town or downtown to the museums.

The only difficulty we had was the the kitchen was so well stocked that we couldn't find anywhere to store the groceries that we had brought with us. Not a major thing, and certainly didn't impact our marvelous stay.

Great place,

  • 5 of 5

What a view! Had a wonderful time spending thanksgiving with son (attending UPS). Kitchen is well-organized and stocked. Area is quiet and friendly. Spent way too much money at the Metropolitan market, but thanksgiving is once a year, right? Would definitely stay there again.
