Why MIKE MAYFIELD/KENNETH MAYFIELD/DOUG MAYFIELD chose Forest Lakes
PICKED THIS PROPERTY TO BUY WHEN IT WAS VACANT AND DESIGNED AND HAD JIM BARNA LOG HOMES BUILD THIS STRUCTURE. IT IS BUILT INTO THE MOUNTAIN. THE NORTH AND WEST WALLS ARE CONCRETE AND THUS THE FIRST FLOOR IS ALWAYS COOL. WHEN MANY BUILDERS LOOKED AT THIS PROPERTY AFTER WE BOUGHT IT THEY TOLD US THE FIRST THING TO DO IS SELL IT BECAUSE IT IS TOO HIGH AND STEEP TO BUILD ON. WE HAD TO BLAST OUR DRIVEWAY IN. YOU BE THE JUDGE.
What makes this Cabin unique
THIS IS A COMPLETELY LOG STRUCTURE EXCEPT FOR THE FIRST FLOOR AND THE VIEWS ARE AMAZING OFF OF THE DECKS. WHILE THE BOTTOM OF THE MOUNTAIN IS QUITE POPULATED NOW, UP WHERE WE ARE IS STILL COMPARATIVELY MUCH LESS POPULATED. WE WANTED A LOG CABIN IN THE MOUNTAINS AND WE BELIEVE WE ACHIEVED IT. BUT, YOU DECIDE.

Enough room for all of us, views are AWESOME!!
Great cabin that comfortably fit 3 families
Love the 3 levels with 5 bedrooms. Driveway is very steep and was relieved we didn't have to travel up it in snow. Deer everywhere outside the cabin every morning and owner was great to work with. Wish they had more pictures of the cabin in the listing but it worked great for our families.
The deck provided a beautiful view, and we loved the surrounding property.
We enjoyed the beautiful view from the deck and enjoyed exploring all of the land right behind the home. However the drive up to the house was very stressful for us. I would not recommend it in any season if you don't have four wheel drive. The gravel driveway is extremely steep and has some soft spots where our wheels were spinning. We were concerned about the fact that there is no air conditioning, but the home is high enough that at the end of July we were still comfortable. There was a strong odor in the basement (possibly from the propane heater) which made it kind of unpleasant to stay in that bedroom.
Great place! Had everything we needed and more!
We booked this short notice but they were able to accommodate us and have everything ready. Very nice and owners were helpful in supplying info about the town. We would definitely stay again!
The property itself is beautiful. It has a great view and the house is lovely. There is lots of room
The driveway is impossible in a two wheel drive vehicle. I cannot imagine what it would be like in winter. There were five of us and managing the driveway was unsatisfactory. Otherwise we truly loved the space, the balconies, the setting of the home.
Perfect cabin for our 11 people.
Area was beautiful, lots of wildlife right by cabin, close to the lake, great patios to eat every meal on with plenty of seating. Very very comfortable. Driveway hard to get up if you don't have all wheel drive. Owner the best to work with. Still waiting on refund from vrbo.
Nestled at 8500' in the San Juan Mountains twenty miles outside of Durango where there are great restaurants, shops and the Durango to Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Train, you can hike around the cabin and view Lake Vallicito, the third largest manmade lake in CO. Vallicito Lake is only a short drive where you can drive around the lake as well as fish, or drive the San Juan Skyway and see the million dollar highway views or visit Mesa Verde National Park, the ruins of the Pueblo Indians, or visit the four corners area where you can stand in four states at once, or visit historic Pagosa Springs, or the old mining town of Silverton or Ouray, high in the mountains. Rafting at all levels is available as well as horseback riding or mountain bikiing or rent a jeep and explore the high country. In Vallecito there is a federal campground that has hiking along the river in the rocky San Juan mountains as well.
