Overview

About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms + Queen size sofa bed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 3-5)

Unobstructed ocean and mountain views from this beautiful, 2 bedroom condominium. Condo was recently renovated and upgraded throughout from fresh paint, tile and Brazilian Cherry flooring and new furniture. Beautiful tropical landscaped grounds. The condominium sleeps up to five. There is a queen-size bed in the bedroom, a queen-size living room sofa bed, and a twin size bed in the adjacent bedroom. All kitchen appliances including a dishwasher and utensils are available. All bedding, linens, and towels are included along with large flat screen TVs in both the living room and bedroom. Cable TV with Showtime and HBO included. Also a DVD player and WIFI. A stereo/CD “Bose” wave is in the bedroom. Twenty-four hour security at the complex so you can rest assured. The complex offers full laundry facilities, a beautiful salt water pool, (no chlorine), surrounded by palm trees, and an adjacent barbecue area for those times you may want to 'throw a shrimp on the bar-b.' The TIKI lamps around the pool and bar-bq area are lighted nightly. World class surfing at Makaha Beach is just a short walk or less than 1 minute drive. NEVER a problem finding a place to lay out your towels. A short drive west (10 min) takes you to numerous isolated beaches and trails. The "Wet and Wild" water park is in close proximity to the Aualani Disney resort hotel. Both are only a short 20 minute drive where at the Disney Hotel, you can have a great meal and mingle with the Disney characters. It's a beautiful place. If you’re up for shopping, the Waikele Premium Outlets may be the ticket. Numerous upscale and designer shops. I normally help plan my clients itinerary to insure a completly fabulous vacation. If you visit the Makaha area once, I promise you'll fall in love with the quiet, (except for the occasional peacock) laid back country feel, absolutely refreshing!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We travel to Hawaii twice a year and stay for a long time. This was one of the nicest apartments we have ever rented. The owners are superb, and have given thought about all the details for this rental. You won't be disappointed with this apartment.

Almost Heaven, West Makaha

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this rental for 39 days. During that time my wife and daughters were visiting me on and off. All 6 of us (not at the same time) have wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. The condo is a gated resort. Exactly as Gene advertised, as is his condo. Pool was never crowded, nor were the grills. The flora is photo worthy and well maintained. Bougainvillea, ti plants, red ginger, plumeria, and bird of paradise are everywhere. Of course I can't forget to mention the peacocks. Each night at sunset we headed to the beach to watch it set, and take a lot of photos. With the beach nearby and Mt Ka'ala in your face it is what dreams are made of. This is not the part of the island where Jurassic Park was filmed but it certainly will remind you of that. Makaha Valley Towers was a very long commute for me to drive everyday but I loved it. I've stayed in Waikiki before and the crowds of tourists are not for me. Makaha is country, and the true Hawaii. Hiking to Kaena point is a must for anyone who can do the level hike. The highly endangered Monk Seal thrives there. Each trip to the point we saw one or two. Another memory noe of us will forget.

Accommodating

  • 5 of 5

My family (wife and son) rented Gene's condo from June 14th through July 14th. However, this wasn't the original plan. Life through us a curve ball and we had to change our rental dates. Gene was very accommodating and worked with us to make our new dates work. This was our second time staying at Makaha Valley Towers (MVT), our first at Gene's condo. We stayed in Makaha to be closer to my family. The location was fantastic as it only took about 25-30 minutes to drive to Kapolei. We were visiting family and I was also busy working on my dissertation. Gene was extremely accommodating, he went out if his way to assist me when the Internet connection had issues.

One thing we really enjoyed was the second bedroom. Our first experience at MVT only had a King size bed and the area where Gene has an extra bed was more closet space. The extra bed was just fantastic and our 9 year old son loved sleeping there. The salt water pool is always nice and the BBQ area is also good.

We would most certainly recommend Gene's condo to others.

A Home Away From Home in Makaha Valley!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of three (myself, my wife and our young son) had a terrific 30 day stay at Gene's condo in Makaha Valley Towers and were very happy with our experience.

The condo felt like a home away from home rather than some luxury resort condo. It wasn't equipped with the box standard furnishings, but, rather, had its own personality. It really felt like we were borrowing someone's beach getaway place, which is probably because that is what i imagine it is for the owner. We made it our home for 30 days and there was much to love. The views from the condo were just stunning and the condo itself had most of the basic conveniences and furnishings that we needed / wanted. The A/C was an extra perk for those rare occasions when we needed some extra cool air.

Our only real substantive comment on the unit itself is that the layout meant that access to the bathroom was through the 2nd bedroom and the 2 bedrooms were separated by a curtain rather than a door. However, for us, with our young son in the 2nd bedroom, it was never really an issue and we really felt at home in the unit, but it is worth mentioning.

We also cannot say enough about the pool and BBQ facilities at Makaha Valley Towers. We made extensive use of both and it really added something special to the stay. The evening dinners in the BBQ area were memorable and it also gave us the opportunity to meet other residents.

In terms of the local area, there were some fantastic beaches nearby. We especially liked Makaha Beach Park, both during the day and also in the evening for some fantastic sunsets. There are also some great hikes in the area for the adventurous.

The towns between Makaha Valley and Ko Olina / Kapolei don’t have much on offer in terms of restaurants or tourist-oriented retail shops, but there are a couple of good supermarkets to pick up all of the necessities for preparing some great meals. And we did enjoy Countryside Cafe in Maili and Hannara Restaurant in Waianae, particularly for lunch/breakfast. Again, though, we found ourselves enjoying our dinners back at the property at the end of each day.

Makaha Valley is a good hour drive from Waikiki and anyone staying at any property in this area needs to understand this. We did find ourselves stuck in afternoon traffic on the Leeward coast on our way home from some day outings, but if one plans for it, it is very manageable.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Gene was very accommodating and gracious!

Home away from home!!!!

  • 5 of 5

I recently spent about 4 1/2months at Gene's Condo, with my caregiver, where i was admitted to Queens Hosp for the first 3-4weeks of my trip. Gene was VERY understanding when we wanting to extend our stay, as originally we were booked for 2months as Gene had others interested in the Condo, but he was willing to work with me and my situation, since I had not really had a chance to see the island between being hospitalized & doctor's visits by the end of our 2nd month. Not only that, but Gene gave us a lot of tips on things to do, like a little local private beaches I went to about 5mins away that had tons of turtles.

Never having been to Oahu my caregiver & I were really apprehensive & a bit scared coming out here, Gene was AWESOME, always just a call, text or email away - He always answered our questions, let us to get mail at the condo & when I broke something, he let me replace it rather than taking it outta our security deposit -Gene's friendliest & most helpful

When I come back to Oahu, I would like to stay at Gene's place again & I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to travel to Oahu & desires & laid back style of living far removed from "LA" type living

Once I started to get better I found that if you drive north about 5-8min, you run across the largest cave on the island, which was pretty cool to see. About 5-10min south is a Waianae boat Harbor where you can do almost any water activity there is, I went Snorkeling with the Dolphins & even learned to Scuba Dive

There's many hikes nearby, pool, there's 3 local stores within 10min, Longs Pharmacy is 10min away. The ONLY downside for me, was that all my doctors were in Honolulu, which is a MINIMUM 1hr - 1 1/2hr drive away

There was Ukulele Gene allowed us to use, eventually I just had to go out and buy my own after my caregiver taught me a little. There's a printer for use which was EXTREMELY helpful. A Keurig Coffee maker. He also had 2 TV's which came in handy, as I was able to one as a computer monitor and one as a TV.

There was tons of snorkel gear, body boards & beach equipment. He also had just a little bit of almost all the normal items you would find in a house - like replacement light bulbs, tools, cleanings supplies, tons of kitchenware & linen for all the different beds - as Ive rented Many places for the same price and more that Gene's is, the others have had almost nothing in them, his has by far been the best so far & that's what I mean by "Home away from Home"

A Slice of Heaven!!

  • 5 of 5

We recently spent 14 days at Gene and Galinda's lovely condo. My family of 5 and I were extremely comfortable in this spacious condo. Every comfort and convenience was available to us. The views from the lanai were majestic. We loved seeing the peacocks every day. I think my 10 year old took more photos of the peacocks than she did of the beaches. We spotted turtles most every day and even a few dolphins just walking along the shores in Makaha. Pokai Bay (5 minutes from the condo) was the perfect beach for us. My family loves to paddle surf and that was the perfect location for that activity. It was one of the most relaxing vacations we have had in a long time. Ko O Lina was less than 30 minutes away and we tried some really great Restaurants and enjoyed the Lagoons. Roy's was exceptional! My family and I are already planning our next trip back and hope to stay here again! Thanks Gene and Galinda for providing such a warm and homey place to stay!

Great condo and beautiful grounds. Makaha is a bit far from Waikiki, but worth the drive. Lots of secluded public beaches, including one with dolphin viewing out in the bay. Very well kept condo unit. May need to check on accessibility to units and pool/BBQ area. Lots of stairs.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the kind words and we are happy that you've enjoyed the serenity of the Makaha Valley Beaches and area. We hope you can visit us again. The elevator which is in close proximity to the front door of the condo goes to the "lower level" where the pool and BBQ area is located. Of course you can also take the stairs.
